I really like this song lately. I think literally it means that he's going to the place where they first met and camping out there until she comes back to him. It seems that he's homeless, because he's camped out and he has cardboard saying to tell his girl where he is, but he's not homeless (or broke) he's just broken hearted. He then goes onto say if she ever wakes up and realizes that he's what she misses, then he will be at their spot waiting for her. He's not going to move or go away without her.
In a more figurative sense, I think this song is about waiting for his girl to come back to him emotionally. He is so set on her that he's not leaving her life and he's willing to wait around on her. |

"this song represents a bit of a sea change in my life for me, thats why the record is named after it. i feel like you can waste a lot of time wishing something that is wasn't (and vice versa). i probably spent a little too much time trying to push square pegs into round holes (not literally. im not a child with a learning disability. generally speaking). but then i had a sort of 'yes man' moment. that mentality is reflected in how this song and this record was recorded too. i stopped sitting on a computer at 2 am tweaking literally every kick drum hit, revising compression settings 25 times over, fretting about the slightest sloppy envelope on a sample. instead, i started going with that loose moment when ideas happen and it basically sounds good. the title came from a sticky label chelsea's dad put up on a door in his home office because no one ever closed it. haha. but i liked the phrase cause its like, 'would it kill you not to interfere with things just turning out awesome on their own? you would prefer to try really really hard to ruin it completely? is that it?'"

hi. joe here. when forrest approached me about writing the lyrics for this song i was a little apprehensive because musically it was already one of my favorite songs on the record and i didn't want to muck it up. but because of that very reason, i really wanted to be a part of it lyrically and decided to give it a shot. the lyrics have a nautical / lighthouse theme because i love the imagery of a rocky new england shore. so beautiful and inviting but dangerous and unpredictable at he same time. the second theme is my general neurosis. i spend a lot of time worrying over things that may have not even happened. i feel like in my relationship, i'm often over thinking situations while Holly, my fiance, is strong and confident. basically, i need to spend less time analyzing things in my head and just enjoy every moment."

"you know when you get in a fight and you're laying in bed right next to each other but it's practically like you're in different states? it's also kinda about working at a relationship, making sure it doesn't just get sorta ignored. a reap you'll never sow is like expecting something to be there even if you never make it. this totally doesn't feel like it, but this is the first song written for this record. there was a period where every demo i did had crazy fast breakbeat drums like the chorus of this song. even thoughts that give me the creeps started out with really frantic tight drums. which wouldn't have worked well at all. haha."

I'm not sure how I feel about this song. It almost seems like it's too intense to just be about any old relationship. I sort of agree with the person above me, it looks like it's a song about abuse. I would say yeah, it's about Mayer. I don't know how he could have hurt her this bad though. The only thing I can think of that can really hurt a young girl would be sex. I'm wondering if he slept with her and then left her, because that's where the intensity is leading me. I hope not and I hope Taylor wouldn't have been foolish enough to fall for him... |

I agree with most of what you all have said. She wrote Forever & Always last minute and it was added to "Fearless", so it was her initial response to the whole situation and she was in shock and angry. Two years have passed and her anger is gone and now I think she's just regretful and nostalgic. This may be my favorite song on the album. |

I agree that this song isn't all the great and it seems like it's more of a bash toward the bride rather than a love lament... but I think that when someone loves someone and they love another person, the in-love person always finds faults in the other person's significant other and that's what she's doing here. |

I think the lyrics mean that you should not have to second guess with love--it should be a sure thing. And if it's not all out "like the movies", then it's not worth it. You shouldn't settle.
I think I read in Seventeen magazine that his is about Travis McCoy and how it just wasn't how it should be. |
