The Gaslight Anthem – Film Noir Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it's "I lost so much blood in the falling out" or "I lost so much blood in the fire" |
Polar Bear Club – Eat dinner, Bury the Dog, and Run Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree Terrorhawk. Though I think it might be returning home from a semester at school rather than a late night at work. Long drive (200 miles long) back to his parents house. I do wonder what the problem was when he got home though. Maybe quite literally a funeral for his dog? And what's up with the line "put a camera in my car, and you get me less and less and less." ? |
Polar Bear Club – Convinced I'm wrong Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is probably the best song off the new album. |
Polar Bear Club – Resent And Resistance Lyrics | 16 years ago |
seriously! it's about time. |
Polar Bear Club – Resent And Resistance Lyrics | 16 years ago |
oh wow dude, nevermind. if they've revised them to those lyrics, then those are probably more accurate. the ones i had are from the liner notes, but if they're singing it like this now, then my bad. |
Polar Bear Club – Resent And Resistance Lyrics | 16 years ago |
seriously? when did they have this song on the player? |
Polar Bear Club – His Devotee Lyrics | 16 years ago |
these are from the cd jacket. i'd imagine the original post is just misheard lyrics You have a way with light You make it long for you Soldier, and his devotee The saddest light I've ever seen You have a way with silence Beneith your pillow it lays, cheap Sqeezing the worn leather handle A smile finds you at midnight, You mouth sweet familiarity Not me, this time You forget what's mightier than swords I hold the ace And when it shows I'm killing you with words You have an eye for the ill-fated In the mirror you learned To keep stabbing, keep crying Keep turning stars into memorys Until the souls of sinners burn Don't look, it's me As bright as the whitest light can be My world, My rules One swift erase away from an amputee Swift erase away.... Swift erase away.... My world, my rules My world, my rules My world My world, my rules You have a way with light (You have a way with light) You make it long for you (You make it long for you) Soldier, and his devotee The saddest light I've ever seen |
Polar Bear Club – Resent And Resistance Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Here are the actual lyrics. Sonny, I see So much of myself in you Entrances and exits Splashed with resent and resistance We stay true to value... At least I hope I do Yeah I think I do But sonny, you are a martyr Can't save you, 'cause you chose yourself Sonny it only gets harder As you start to lose sight of the cause Was it even there at all? Or was it in your head? Hey kid, I been thinkin' 'Bout you and me You're all over the place, So it's hard to say this correctly Give up or grow up But sonny, you are a martyr Can't save you cause you chose yourself Sonny it only gets harder As you start to lose sight of the- Sonny, you are a martyr Can't save you cause you chose yourself Sonny it only gets harder As you start to lose sight of the cause Your cause.... |
Polar Bear Club – Resent And Resistance Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it ends with "your cause" not "the cause" there's too many added "and"'s and "because"'s that try to make these lyrics read like normal sentences. please fix them. |
Fire When Ready – The Right Hook Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I thought the lyrics were "she sleeps dreaming of your lie" and "your lipstick says 'gonna take you to bed with us, yeah.' " |
The Ataris – Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis (Tom Waits cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the tom waits version is so much better than this. the only good cover i've ever heard of this song is the Neko Case version. |
The Draft – Lo Zee Rose Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Lo Zee Rose = Low Zeroes? probably talking about money, being broke, etc. |
Jawbreaker – First Step Lyrics | 17 years ago |
def, justin. def. this is my favorite jawbreaker song. it manages to perfectly describes a moment that I've had to experience more times than I'd like to count. "Smell the hot rain on the street. Could be love. Could be alcohol. Cup my hands around your face. A litte frame. A lot of pain." So perfect. This whole song paints such a great image without sounding like it's trying too hard. It all just fits. |
Jawbreaker – Kiss The Bottle Lyrics | 17 years ago |
according to a live performance of this: "This song is about a fucked town." |
Polar Bear Club – His Devotee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
kibe, i posted election day, waiting for 'approval' or whatever. such a great band. i can't figure out 100% what this song is about. It's got a lot of references to art though. Light, Mirrors, Erasers, etc. anyone have any specific ideas? |
The Jim Yoshii Pile Up – Thanksgiving Grey Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't know how to fix lyrics on this site, but these were posted on the JYPU myspace as the official lyrics: You've lost time in the best of houses. You wake up tired in the evening hours. And so you drift from room to room in shorts and socks. And you ignore the phone, the friend who knocks. And you drag a chair across the wooden floor. You sit at the screen door, And watch the autumn leaves fall and coat the ground. And thank you for the easy let-down. It never seems to work out right. "We're on your side; our love is blind." I pretend to know the words. I smile and look the other way. I think I must be wrong about you. And on and on, circles the night. I push my views; you call them "white." And round and round, your lips close tight. You raise the dead and levitate your bed. I was sprawled out on your bed, Trying hard to keep my hands behind my head, Trying hard not to embarrass either one of us. Yes, I know you're ill, but I was ill first. It's not so easy being on the other side. You're about to find out. |
Carissa's Wierd – smiths Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is called 'asleep' and it's by the smiths. it's not a carissa's wierd song. |
The Draft – New Eyes Open Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the song seems to just be about new beginnings it opens up, at the end of (something) and then talks about comebacks (counter-attacks) and starting over (the end's where it begins). great opening number for the album. |
The Draft – Impossible Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This sounds like someone's in a situation, where they just keep ignoring things that keep going wrong, just to continue being in that situation. perhaps a relationship? or something similar? anyway, this is just the realization that things can't continue and that they have to end. soon. "pulling up the stakes just leaves a mess for someone else to deal with" refers to people adjusting (or having trouble doing so) when it comes to change. "Don't tell me that it's the right time for a bitter goodbye" is probably, again, a reference to the person not wanting to let go. |
The Draft – Out Of Tune Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song's about not fitting in. or, just not fitting in with "everyone", and that the most important thing is that if you've got one (or two, or three) close friends, then you should keep them close and that everything else doesn't matter. " So here's to jokes we never got and never will We're out of tune " the "jokes we never got and we never will" could refer to not matching up with a majority idea, or trend, or something. "we're out of tune" is just the same thing, reiterated. |
Jawbreaker – Boxcar Lyrics | 17 years ago |
alright, thanks. |
Jawbreaker – Boxcar Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Got a friend. Her name is Boxcar. Cigarettes and beer in El Sob. Her hair was blue, now it's green. i don't get this part, is it supposed to be taken literally? and if so, why the name 'boxcar'? if not, what's the referance. anyone know? |
The Jim Yoshii Pile Up – A Deep Deep Lake Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think it's about an alcoholic, who is probably obsessed with somone, who they're not able to see. perhaps a father with a restraining order, a love for whiskey, and a telescope? or something to that effect? |
The Jim Yoshii Pile Up – A Toast to the Happy Couple Lyrics | 18 years ago |
do you know what particular 'illness' he had? |
The Jim Yoshii Pile Up – Jailhouse Rock Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the "line"(S) that you're probably overlooking are "Pretty and tough, the warden always gets it up. The prison boys are rough, so the warden cuffs 'em up." these lines, plus the homosexual tendancies that develop during a prolonged stay in prison. make it a pretty good allegory for sexual abuse. |
Lucero – That Much Further West Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song's great. it's funny though, when you listen to it, you don't really realize what he's saying, and then when you look at the lyrics, you can see the whole picture. |
American Nightmare – am/pm Lyrics | 18 years ago |
why is it called AM/PM though? like, isn't an AM/PM a convenience store or something like that? |
Carissa's Wierd – SILENTLY leaving the room Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i don't know how to submit lyrics to be fixed. here's the full song though. silently leaving the room gathering your thoughts from the floor hopefully no one will hear you silently closing the door down the long stairs to the hall out to the streets where you'll find rumored accounts and hearsay was it me who acted that way is it you who should stay I don't recall ever acting that way was it you who should've stayed the truth was deceiving when the hosts of the evening found the ghost that was bleeding drops of blood from the ceiling everyone was laughing, we all prayed for a favor that the ghost would entertain us with some songs and some notes but by the stains of his blood covered all the wood floors opened all of the windows and all of the doors broke all of the bottles on streets down below some blood was frozen blessed by wounded love when the ice skates came on the girls finally sang songs to the tunes of the laughter while silently leaving the room |
The (International) Noise Conspiracy – Capitalism Stole My Virginity Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the title "Capitalism Stole my Virginity" could just be a polite way of saying "i was fucked by capitalism" or "capitalism fucked me", or whatever tense you want to put it in. "Distasteful ugly and cheap That is how you make me feel" this is probably just adressing the middle/lower classes. if you don't have mony, you're treated like shit. "Robbed out of our bleeding hearts smashed our illusions tore them all apart" this is a bit more remote, i think it's a referance to "the great american dream" of just being able to come to this 'great land of opportunity' and make it big if you've got heart and drive to work. everything's corporations now, so if you've got drive to work, you probably have enough common sense to tell what the hells going on. Corporations don't want people who will think, they want robots who'll do what there told, then go home in there SUV and watch Monday Night Football. "But now we are unsentimental and unafraid to destroy this culture that we hate" commercials and shit used to use catchy add jingles, or sentimental images to sell a prodouct. the military used to use patriotism to get people to join for nothing. then we had hippies and punks who started this whole "fuck the establishment" movement(i know hippies didn't do it that violently, but the spirit was revolving around the same idea). being unafraid, of the military, and of concequence for change, and being unsentimental towards these warped 'family value' messages that the government is trying to brand your mind with. family values aren't "loving republicans because your dad does" family values are "loving your dad because he's your dad" "And on every forehead of every little whore there is a sign that says: Baby we're all born to die." this is just another referance to military draftees and volunteers.(i think anyway) or maybe just anyone following a trend or mass movement that was devised by something in pop culture. "We are all sluts, cheap products in someone else's notebook " Two words: MARKET RESEARCH Two more words: TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC |
The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think the "room colored charlatons" referred to the doctors that were "treating" julio while he was in a coma. hospital walls are mostly white, or a greyish blue. doctors wear white lab coats, or greyish colored scrubs when they're operating. so i think that this is saying that the doctors didn't do anything for him except steal his money for keeping him in a hospital ward while he was in a coma. |
At the Drive-In – Extracurricular Lyrics | 18 years ago |
when they performed this song live, they would always add the lines "i've seen this happen in other people's lives, and now it's happening in mine.i've seen this happen in other people's lives, and now it's happening in mine, happening in mine, happening in mine" from the smith's song "that joke isn't funny anymore". i get the feeling that this is just another song about loss of one kind or another, ot MrManInvisible could be right and those lines could just be applying to seeing other bands break up due to lack of new material. |
The Mars Volta – Cassandra Gemini Lyrics | 18 years ago |
" Does anyone have any thoughts on the significance of "icepick" showing up a few different places on the album?" i think that cassandra/francis was a hooker. "francis" was just a fake name so that you wouldn't know her real name until the end(if you could figure it out that far) "25 snakes pour out your eyes yeah the icepicks comming on the marble shrine 25 snakes are drowning" i think that an 'icepick' is a penis snake is another referance to a penis. the '25 wives' refer to other hookers, that's what pimps call their 'girls' and the girls refer to the pimp as the 'daddy'. "And the owls they were watching and the owls did't care then the owls came a knocking placenta in their stares" i think that this part refers to vismund being born. the 'owls' are probably doctors(though i'm not sure why) and 'placenta in their stares' means that the owls(doctors or not) were looking at the placenta. Placenta, N. The organ that nourishes the developing fetus in the uterus. 'They will feed on all the carnage leftover from the flood and in the corner of their eyes fled sister L'Via' feeding on the carnage=getting paid for the operation the flood=the birth itself and in the corner of their eyes fled sister L'Via'=l'via couldn't stand to watch vismund being born. 'His orifice icicles' probably refers to oral sex(again, the icepick) No there’s no light In the darkest of your furthest reaches refering to the fact that hookers work at night mostly. or in alleyways.(furthest reaches could be literal or metaphorical) |
At the Drive-In – Cosmonaut Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i"t could have to do with the *idea* that the government played more of a role in 9/11 than we believe. I don't support the latter theory, just throwing it out there. A lot of ATDI's songs have some sort of symbolism, its best to do research on the subject." the september 11th 'attacks' happened in 2001. relationship of command was released in 2000. so this song having something to do with the september eleventh plane crashes is impossible. and ALL off these songs contain A LOT of symbolism. |
