alright alright. i just gotta say that even though there seem to be strong opinions about this song (which in and of itself is a strong vocalization of how powerful it is, thus forcing anyone who isnt ignorant to give nas props) nobody has managed to consider that maybe what nas is saying throughout the beginning of the song is hypothetical, representing the popular opinions of the people who live in such neighborhoods, not neccessarily his own view points. did no one else catch the last couple of lines that say "this is crazy im on the right track im finally found you need some soul searchin, the time is now"? something to consider. and also, i am not one to step on toes, but i just couldnt let a comment by LoganNYC slide. he said "moving out of the projects ain't hard if you work a goddamn job. I know plenty of poor white trash who never had to live in the projects, I'm from the city." man... you got some nerve. i am white, my mother and i both work jobs, she actually works 2 full time jobs, and i am 17, and have been working since i was 14. we pour our income into neccessities, and fight a battle everyday just to get by. i am not whining here... my life is good because money has come to mean nothing to me, but we just so happen to have just had our house taken away. my father abandoned us 3 years ago, and we held on as long as we could, but we just couldnt do it. so where do we live now? in the projects. literally, in a gov. housing project. i used to have the nice house, the good family life,. we have worked our asses off, and we under any examination have never tried to live beyond our means. it IS hard to get out of the projects. you are placed here by circumstances you cant help, and once here, you are told by society that you are nothing, you are there to serve. people's view of you is instantly changed. i live what nas discusses... i see what he has seen. its not right, and i dont believe he is saying that it is. he is just saying look, this is out here and its ugly. you say you live in a bad neighborhood where this shit goes down, but i dont believe you. i dont believe you have ever seen anything like that, because the above quoted comment displays your ignorance on the subject. life is harder for some people than you think it is. i am not a "whiney little bitch" either. i have my life and i accept it for what it is, but try to see that different people go through different things. as for me, i salute nas' bravery and sincerity for saying what he feels, even if it means he gets backlash, and even if i dont agree with it. closed mindedness gets you nowhere.
