If you listen closely and compare each line you'll realize that this song isn't only speaking against the current governmental system. Its speaking against all people who aren't doing anything to help. They live in the status quo promoting a Laissez Faire government because of their lack of action. He is speaking out against anyone living in such ignorance as to not live for themselves. Overall this song just goes to show the real truth behind the people living in this country, and even in countries around the world....we are the mute sheep over the world, being led by our faceless leaders. |

Did someone fail to mention that Edgar Allen Poe is a genius? In his story "The Masque of the Red Death" he uses the word "masquerade" (Which Dustin also uses in his song). The word masquerade holds meaning for every aspect of the story.

1. A costume party at which masks are worn; a masked
ball. Also called masque.
2. To wear a mask or disguise, as at a masquerade
Not only was the Prince in Poe's writings having a Masquerade, he was also Maquerading. His party, despite its opulence, was also a gesture to forget about The Red Death and to pretend its falsity.
The Red Death itself was masquerading as the Prince's guests, killing each one of them and leaving their corpse in a room no one dared to go in (Due to the Prince's bizzarre decorative nature). The title itself holds some for of irony because of this.
