I love when it says "I don't feel like I'm falling down...just say hello to the ground." It's like not wanting to admit to yourself what's happening in your life. And I love the little story he told when I saw him do this live. He said this is about going home after you've been away for a while and what it feels like to see that your mom has turned your bedroom into a sewing room or something. HE'S TOO CUTE!

"Armed with every precious failure" God, that really just sums it all up, doesn't it? "Rely a bit to heavily on alcohol and irony. Get clobbered on by courtesy, in love with love, and lousy poetry." It just describes so much of so many people I know, including me. It's like you turn to all these things that will make life better for you and easier for you, but what you really need is to be true to yourself. Love it!

One thing that no one seems to have picked up on. "They took the last train for the coast" I think this refers to the time in which music was shifting from New York to the west coast, another makor change in the music industry at this time.

This song is about a father seeing his daughter making the same mistakes he did. Even though he sees her screwing up and wants to stop her, he can't make himslef believe that it's true. He knows, but prefers to see her as the little girl she used to be. He doesn't know how to confront his daughter, but knows he has to before she ruins her life.

MetalKronic, I think you got it on this one! This song is my absolute anthem. To me, it kinda says that it's o.k. to not fit in. The people that conform to society are the ones that are really missing out. They are the ones that don't understand things, or have control over their lives. You are neurotic and depressed, it doesn't mean that you're sad -that's completely me. Another great Everclear song

I think this song is about how you shouldn't take life so seriously. People work all their lives and never hve anything to show for it. I think BNL is trying to show that it's better to live life to the fullest and not worry about things so much. People that worry about the future end up wasting their lives. I think that's what this song is really all about.

Alanis Morissette – Mary Jane Lyrics

A.A. Milne wrote a poem called "Rice Pudding" about a little girl named Mary Jane who wouldn't eat her rice pudding. It asked over and over "What is the matter with Mary Jane?". Now, Mary Jane, the little girl who would eat, has become the poster child for eating disorders. This song is about Alanis' own battles with weight and eating disorders. Thus the lines, "I hear you're losing weight again Mary Jane Do you ever wonder who you're losing it for". Mary Jane shows all the unhappiness and the feelings that go with an eating disorder. Alanis is showing the negative aspects of EDs...from the sadness to other problems being ill and injuring yourself; "Well it's full speed baby In the wrong direction There's a few more bruises If that's the way You insist on heading." She is telling Mary Jane, who could be herself, someone she knows, or just a generalized person, that she shouldn't worry about being perfect and how others see her. She should focus on trying to be happy instead.
