Something For Kate – Old Pictures Lyrics 17 years ago
Flag poles stand parallel to eachother - never touching, never meeting.

This is about the breakdown of a friendship, probably a long-time friend... They're still around, and he reflects upon the relationship, but it was destructive. He forced that person to become nothing more than a memory...

He's still concerned, but knows its safer to stay in a place where they don't cross paths.

Casting Crowns – What If His PeoplePrayed Lyrics 18 years ago
2 Chronicles 7:14
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

This song causes me to wonder why (a) we don't take His promises seriously and (b) we don't pray as though we believe He's listening...

Great song. Very challenging.

Jars of Clay – Art In Me Lyrics 19 years ago
Wow, I like your view, but mine is rather different. I like that different people get different things out of the same song.

First verse speaks of the people who God has created who have ruined the art. They have diminished the dream God put in them, cynicism causes them to reject their Creator.

"In your picture book" Picture book refers to this world. Just by opening your eyes and paying attention you can see the story.
"Turning endless pages of this tragedy" - everywhere he looks, all he can see is people rejecting God. All he can see is the hurt and cynicism.
"Sculpting every move you create a symphony" - He takes his view off the world and turns to God, realising that the world IS indeed in His hands, and He's creating a grand masterpiece.
"You plead to everyone, 'see the art in me'" - Is God asking people to see they can renew themselves in Him, they can discard their dirty canvasses and become someone new and whole.

"Broken stained-glass windows...broken souls" - people who have lost themselves by following their own path. Choosing an eternity separated from God, rather than one united with the One who Created and can complete them.
The last two lines emphasise the fact that we could never EVER create anything as grand as what God does. All you need to read to understand the awe-inspiring Creator-God is Job 38+39.

Brilliant, beautiful song. my 2nd favorite by J.o.C. (:
I love the optimism and hope this song carries.

Jars of Clay – Flood Lyrics 19 years ago
"If I can't swim after forty days"

fgbiad mentioned the fact that the forty days could possibly relate to the forty days Jesus returned for after his ressurection. Another forty days it could relate to is the forty days that Jesus was in the wilderness, being tempted by Satan.

Still, like OpinionHead, I believe the forty days is a metaphor for the Flood mixed with this temptation.

"It hasn't stopped raining for days, My world is a flood"

"Cast down all the waves of sin and guilt that overthrow me"

Its about drowning in sin and/or the temptation to sin. Its a cry to God for help.

A few weeks ago, my good friend/would-be (will-be? I can only hope :P) boyfriend asked me to give him some space to think. We went a weekwithout any form of communication. Plumb – Endure Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about being tired of being in a certain situation in life that never seems to want to go away. It could be waiting for a guy, but I seem to think of it as waiting for her relationship with God to move on to a greater level. Sometimes no matter what you do, you can feel like you're not getting anywhere, and it sometimes causes you to begin to lose hope. For me, its about waiting for breakthrough. ^^;

The Juliana Theory – Breathing By Wires Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm with "LuckyStarr0108" -- My first thoughts upon hearing this song were along the lines of "Is this related to The Matrix somehow?"

But looking deeper into the song, its about being addicted to -- dependent on -- something that you know isn't good for you.

The Juliana Theory – Understand The Dream Is Over Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is by far one of my favorites. It makes me chuckle whenever I hear it these days, thanks to my mum. A couple of months I caught her singing along.. But instead of "Who bought the truth?" She was singing "Who barked at you?". Its now impossible for me to hear the song without thinking of her version. :P

Still, I adore the song. Very good. ^^

Puff Daddy – I'll Be Missing You Lyrics 21 years ago
The morning that my mum's best friend died, back in 1997, mum and I were in the car on the way to a sports competition (trampoline) which I was competing in. Just as we pulled into the parking lot at the venue, I heard this song for the first time, when it was played on the radio. I was a wreck. I ended up pulling out of the competition. This song will always remind me of her..

Art Garfunkel – Bright Eyes Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is incredible. I can't believe no one has commented! Although performed by Art Garfunkel, this song was written by Mike Batt. It was the theme song for the animated movie 'Watership Down', which was adapted from a book by the same title. (The author's name has slipped from my memory..) When I was still living in the UK, Watership Down (the place; the setting of the book/film) was just a few minutes from where we lived. This song reminds me of very early childhood memories. It was also one of the first songs I learnt on flute, then a few later on piano, then just recently, on guitar.

I love this song.

Finch – Without You Here Lyrics 21 years ago
"To her own reflection,
She said,
'I will hold on.'
"To her own reflection,
She said,
'I will be strong.'"

I think those lines are imply that the girl is trying to speak strength into herself. She's feeling lonely and week, and she's trying to give convince herself that she can make it through.

<3 Finch.

Twothirtyeight – The Sticks Are Woven In The Spokes Again Lyrics 21 years ago
I think Syross has a very good idea of what this song is about. My opinion is that his day has started off badly (breaking his favorite chair) and things just went downhill. He sings of a bittersweet memory of a girl, which brought him down for the rest of the day.. He sings about wanting to be happy, but laughing hurts because of the pain he's feeling inside.. And he sings of the memories stopping him from moving on...
Have you ever tried to ride a bike with sticks and twigs, etc, woven into the spokes? Its kinda hard to get anywhere. And it can also be rather difficult to get them out...

I love this song. I love twothirtyeight...

The Ataris – My Reply Lyrics 21 years ago
Excellent song! I was so moved when I heard it..

Looking carefully at the letter and envelope in the cd booklet, I noticed the envelope has an Australian stamp on it. That brought on a whole new meaning to the song, for me. I live in Australia, and knowing he was singing about someone in my own country gave it a feeling of being closer to home...

"i wish there was something i could say
to erase each and every page
you've been through
even though its not my place to save you"

Fantastic.

U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday Lyrics 21 years ago
This is my favorite song by U2, ever. It WAS written by U2, it IS about Northern Ireland. British troops openned fire on a civil rights march in Derry, on January 30, 1972. That was the 'Bloody Sunday' this song refers to.

But this song took on a new meaning on Remembrance Sunday (The day that remembers the afore mentioned Bloody Sunday), November 8, 1987. On that date, the IRA exploded a bomb at a War Memorial parade in the town of Enniskillen... Thirteen people were killed that day...

In January this year, I bought the Rattle & Hum DVD. There is a recording on that DVD of Sunday, Bloody Sunday, which was performed live in Denver, Colorado on the day on the Enniskillen bombing. If you want to know for yourself, what this song is about, do yourself the favor of watching that performance...

Further Seems Forever – The Moon Is Down Lyrics 21 years ago
As truthsayer, way up there said, FSF is a Christian band. An awesome one at that. I recently bought a Christian compilation CD with Wearing Thin on it. They're with Tooth and Nail Records, which is a Christian label. You can check them out at http://www.toothandnail.com/ I love the way that FSF has managed to keep their Christian lyrics cleverly disguised. This way, they're reaching non-Christians with their clean music, and keeping it all "non-offensive" rather than going out there Bible-bashing. And a note for Flexture.. Creed are spiritual, but that doesn't necessarily make them Christian. ^_^; Everyone has a right to express themselves, and music is one of many ways of doing so.
