That translation is a more poetic translation that takes a few liberties that I wouldn't have (the beauty of this song is in the fact that it sounds like someone who's trying to sing what they're feeling and all they can manage to get out in the massive swell of emotion is "I want to sleep holding you."), but yes, more or less, that's what the song is saying. |

One: I live in downtown Seattle. Modest Mouse is originally from the Puget Sound area, and they used to play all of the smaller venues here. I've been listening to them since God knows when simply because they're my non-literal next-door neighbors and their music got around with the college/high school students.
Two: A very good friend of mine opened for them twice, and told me that the lead singer is an asshole, hates Seattle and the surrounding area, and was blatantly in it for the money. For everyone who DOES live in the Puget Sound area, this is well-known and HAS been well-known, as I came to find out after my friend told me this.
Three: A few years back (5 or so) the lead singer allegedly raped some girl after a show his band had put on, and when she contacted the police and tried to press charges, he had some of his friends threaten her and she retracted the charges. Testament to how much of a dick he is.
DESPITE all of this, I still listened and do listen to their music. Why? I like it. I watched them grow up, I watched their style switch because Isaac wants to hit it big and be popular, and I watched the band's other members shuffled in and out. The music is still great, especially their stuff from their first two CDs.
Four: Sticking with a band when their sounds are constantly changing just because you feel dedicated isn't exactly telling of how smart you are. Their sound can change for the worse and it's okay to say that you don't like this, but you liked their older stuff, and say that you're a fan of THAT music, but not the newer songs.
Five: This song is so insanely catchy, but if you've known their sound for a long time and listened to them for a number of years like I have, you can tell that their original spirit isn't behind it at all. |

To me, this was the symbol of my ex coming around a lot and receiving advice from them, and having to be cautious about it, because why I am I to think that they have what's best for me in mind if we're no longer together in the first place? However, I think Thom might be talking about a current relationship and not an old one... |

The song may be trying to convey the sense that forgetting about the past is best, thus the transition from happiness in the present, to remembering the past, and back to the happiness because of being able to let go of how things used to be. |

That does hold some sway in this, exactly how many of you HAVE seen her in concert? At the show I saw, she only played her guitar ONCE, for ONE song. None of her songs are punk whatsoever. This is just something dressed up to look punk thrown to the masses so they can draw more people in. Of COURSE she looks cute, all the more reason to like her, right? Have fun with your meatpuppet, kidlets. Looks like they've nailed their target audience right up the ass. |

I'm on that with red-spyder, I hear it as 'we'll never feel bad anymore' too. I think it's about him having a thoughts about running away from life with his girlfriend, and how they be where they wanted to be the most (an island in the sun) and how everything would be perfect and blissful. |
