Shinedown – Beyond the Sun Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a love song, pure and simple. But it's about physical, sexual love as well as the emotional bond between the two people. I agree with ZephyrLegend that the other person in the song is afraid to love, and needs to be told that it's allright, that they won't get hurt. One of my favorite lyrics in the song is "Look for me the way you would if you were blind." How do blind people see? Through their sense of touch, through their fingers. So that part would definitely imply lovemaking. And I have a couple thoughts about "let me be the fire in your head (or hand)":

1) "Let me be the fire in your head." Fires are hard to put out. It's as if the singer doesn't want the person he loves to get him out of their head. He wants his love to consume them, so he is always on their mind.

2) "Let me be the fire in your hand." This seems to be the actual lyric, according to the official Shinedown website. For me, this goes back to the lovemaking motif. He wants his lover to touch him and feel the heat of his skin.

I think it's pretty straightforward, once you really sit down and listen to the words. They are beautiful, and the music is just amazing, too! Shinedown's best song, IMO, though very underrated.

Emerson Drive – Moments Lyrics 17 years ago
Ziggy, I completely understand...I nearly cried when I first really listened to this song and got its meaning. It's amazing how one life can touch another, and that's exactly that "Moments" is about. It's about two men who have nothing - one that's about to commit suicide and another that's homeless. Both of them recall the best times in their lives and share them with each other - voila, they're both forever changed thereon and the suicidal man (narrator of the song) obviously does not kill himself. This song tells a wonderful, well-rounded story!

Professional Murder Music – Fall Again Lyrics 18 years ago
Hard to believe no one's commented on this excellent song!

Well in any case, here's my take on it. The person narrating the song is in a relationship with someone who says there's "nothing" to their love anymore and feels that it's "wrong" in some way. The narrator definitely doesn't feel that way - he's drawn into the mystique of his lover, spinning in "this world you made for me" whenever they're together.

There may also be an element of S&M/vampirism in this song in the line "Now as the blood drips from your arm to me..." Perhaps the narrator is obsessed with this activity, but it's scaring his lover. He's loving it so much and he's desperate for her to "feel this", the same way that he does. But then he realizes she doesn't love him anymore and "it starts to feel so cold" and he doesn't know what he needs anymore.

In a nutshell, I think this is all about fantasy. Imagining (hence the 'dream again') what your relationship should be, falling away from reality.

Garbage – Breaking Up The Girl Lyrics 18 years ago
Is it just me, or does this song have to do with an accidental pregnancy? I'm thinking of the line "One mistake's all it takes/And your life has come undone". That whole "one mistake" thing is a phrase I've heard used so many times for unplanned pregnancies.

Theory of a Deadman – Since You've Been Gone Lyrics 19 years ago
One of the most amazing songs I've ever heard. Ever. Period.

That said, the song's lyrics really speak for themselves. They tell the tale of a man who's girl left him. Now he can only hope and pray that something is wrong with her so that she is forced to come home and return to him.

The Velvet Underground – New Age Lyrics 19 years ago
According to Wikipedia, this song is about the actress Kim Novak (who by no means was 'fat'!). Mitchum and Novak never starred in a movie together though, and the movie titles are also fictional. It's still a good song and a cool, if not sarcastic, homage to Kim.

VAST – Song Without A Name Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm almost positive this song deals with the rush of performing a concert. Jon is describing his fans when he says "no girls are dancing at my feet/no suits are here to meet", implying that there's a mutual respect between artist and fan. "You take me higher than anything has before" also implies his love for the fans and the rush that they create for him. That's why he's been waiting "hours for this". He also reiterates that the moment will always slip away, which seems to imply that it should be much cherished and enjoyed at every moment. So in essence, I think this song is a nice tribute to his fans and the act of performing for them.

Garbage – Milk Lyrics 19 years ago
I've loved this song for years, but after listening to it again just a few minutes ago I got the distinct impression that it really reminded me of Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights! For those of you who are familiar with it, I think the lyrics "I am lost/So I am cruel/But I'd be love and sweetness/If I had you" fit perfectly. I'm sure Shirley didn't write the song with WH in mind, but it really seems to fit. The entire mood of the song is extremely compatible to the mood of the novel.

Incubus – Drive Lyrics 22 years ago
I think all of you have had very interesting interpretations of the song similar to mine. The way I see it, if you have a certain goal in life, you should go for it. The part where he mentions fear taking the wheel and steering, and "fear of uncertainty stinging clear", reminds me very much of the fear I've felt in my life. I want to become an actress, but the fear of rejection and uncertainty of the future can be crippling at times. To me, this song says to just do what you want, aspire toward your dreams, and to believe in yourself! It's my theme song, lol.

Candlebox – Far Behind Lyrics 22 years ago
This song reminds me of one of my favorite childhood memories - going to the beach with my dad, brother, and dog to play ball. I think it was playing on the radio that morning, so it set the tone for the day. And though the lyrics are really sad, the music has this kind of jumpy happiness to it (except for the chorus part). The happiness I derived from it seemed to fit perfectly with all the fun I had that day, running through the fields with my dog, and even getting stung by a bee. (Okay, *that* wasn't fun, lol!) So anyway, that's what this song reminds me of.

Du Hast kicks major ass - plain and simple. Rammstein makes the most powerfully aggressive music there is! I love these guys. Their music is just what I need to pump me up.

No Doubt – Hella Good Lyrics 22 years ago
This song can only be described with one word - SEXY! It's great. I love it! And for whoever said that it's a good song, but not No Doubt material, I can understand what you're saying to an extent. However, bands change. They move on. That's what No Doubt did, and who cares? Their music is still great, even though it's a bit different. If you don't like it, that's your loss. But you must come to accept that bands change all the time. It's just a way of exploring music. Anyway, I still think it's an awesome song - it makes me wanna get my groove on! Rock on, No Doubt!!

Linkin Park – My December Lyrics 22 years ago
I recently read the book Wuthering Heights, and as I read, I was listening to My December. For those of you who know anything about Wuthering Heights, it's a tragic love story with a not-so-happy ending. This song fit *perfectly*. It was haunting and set the mood just right. To me, My December hints at loss of that special someone - possibly by death. When Catherine from W.H. died, it was the middle of summer, yet only 3 weeks later it snowed on her grave. Very odd. Heathcliff, her love, would do anything to get her back. He'd 'give it all away' just to have her back, 'to have someone to come home to.' Anyway, great song! Very deep and touching.

Nickelback – Worthy To Say Lyrics 22 years ago
Damn, this song is good! Excellent groove. To all those who doubt Nickelback and pass them off as simply the latest trend in rock, this song (as well as most of their old ones) will convince you of their raw talent and power as one of the only true rock bands around today.

Nickelback – Woke Up This Morning Lyrics 22 years ago
I don't know about anyone else, but does this song remind you of September 11? As some of you hardcore Nickelback fans may know, their CD came out on that day. I bought it that day, brought it home and listened to it nonstop as I did my homework. Out of all the songs on the CD, I think the general mood 'Woke Up This Morning' created, best represented the anguish of that day. For me, it will always symbolize Terrible Tuesday.
