Marc Cohn – Far Away, Nearby Lyrics 21 years ago
In my sight this is a very sad song. It´s about someone who´s lost a person that he loved and he knows that person won´t return.
It´s a very personal Marc Cohn song, because his mother died when he was two, and this is a topic you can find in a lot of his songs.
It´s very difficult especially for children when they´re abandoned without getting an answer, what´s also the case when someone dies. But this song shows that the singer is accepting that situation because he knows that he can´t really change it, although it´s making him sad.

And there´s also a life of joy and beautiful things, you mustn´t forget that and you mustn´t forget to live it!

Mark Knopfler – What It Is Lyrics 22 years ago
I was interested in the line "the ghost of Dirty Dick is still in search of little Nell", I didn´t really find out what it means, although I read Charles Dickens´ "Old curiosity shop"(not in English but in German)(great book) where Little Nell is the main charakter.
Does anybody know what relation Charles Dickens had to Edinburgh, because I couldn´t find out yet.

Marc Cohn – Olana Lyrics 22 years ago
At KFOG Marc Cohn said about this song: „.. I guess maybe I could tell you something about that song which is a little bit mysterious if you don´t know what it´s about. … It´s a story about a painter… it´s a man named Frederic Church and I read a story about him and the thing that was compelling about his story to me was, he took sort of a publicly imposed brake, because nobody cared about his art after he had been incredibly popular for a very long time. … He spent the last thirty years of his live devoting his creative input to the building of a house for his family, mostly his children. And he called this house Olana, which means treasure house, house filled with the things that are important to you. And I wrote this song singing in his voice, talking from the grave about remembering his life and what it was, and what was really important to him…”

I think this is really interesting and that that song is one of Marc´s best ones.
