I love The Ghost's lyrics, lots of social commentary and such.
Right now I especially feel a connection with this song like the first bit:

To me this is talking about severing ties to old friends who over time have turned out not to be such great friends anymore. Maybe because they havn't grown up and matured or that they arn't going anywhere in their lives and are becoming a negative influence, ect...
Then:
"Your flaws are fooling you
They find themselves in others
I'm a black sheep with a hidden smile
Some things never change
You�re a type-cast, with your head low
Secretly jealous and horribly plain "
This is realizing you're different and doing what you want to do and succeed even though people may say otherwise. People tend to find their own flaws in other people and will criticize them for it. They're just following the crowd and not accomplishing anything and deep down they realize it and are jealous of those individuals who do their own thing.
Then:
"Exiled, from the best of the worst
Your cure is my curse"
He's saying that becoming one of the crowd is the worst thing that could happen even though most people won't think for themselves and follow the crowd to feel better about themselves.
Plus the end bit with "Your forest needs a fire", ect..
There's just so much emotion there and it's a great ending to the song.

To me it sounds like he's in a relationship and things have gone sourand he realizes it's time to get out even though he wants to avoid hard feelings but can't. He realizes that he isn't happy anymore and he no longer feels like himself and knows he has to do what he has to do for it's best for him to leave her and move on.
I can really intendify with this song. It almost seems like it was written about me and my ex and the later days of our relationship and our less than friendly breakup. |

At first I thought this was an anti-war song but now that I really look at the lyrics and what everyone else has to say I think it is more about staying somewhere even though many of your close friends have moved away or changed in a bad way. It sounds to me that she's sick of everyone being stuck in a rut and burnt out and not willing to do anything new and they seem to that old friends are missed even though somtimes they fought it was better that way and wants some of the old people back whether it be physically or mentally...maybe I'm just interpreting it that way because that's how I feel about my own life |

I think the overall meaning of this song is that how people are stupid how they try to fit in when all they really need to do is be themselves.
Don't paint us the perfect picture, we have visons of our own-I think this is saying that they don't need other groups telling them how they should see thongs and that they can hove their own opinions
Don't give us the slick interpratation, we want to know the awful truth-I see this as saying that they don't need people to cover things up and they want the truth even if it's bad
We're not down to die, and be this typecast culutre...faceless soldier-They think if they fit intoo the typecast culture they won't matter as individuals and they just become faceless soilders and they see this like it is actually dying
Don't sell us the perfect image, we'll stuggle to find ourselfs-They don't need anybody to make them what the arn't and they'll be themselfs though sometimes it's hard with the typecast culture
We want the unpopular challenge- Saying that they will do what they want and how most people are too lazy to find themselfs so they just try to fit in

Yeah I think this is describing a relationship though I'm not sure if it's refelcting on with times with a girl or just friends or maybe both but either way it makes sense. It seems to be talking about past good times as a ride in a car. "Still sufficent depending on you - depending on each other" shows how they need each other and things just arn't right without. "engine noise wispering though half asleep" shows that things have been like this awhile. "startled by headlights and loose...." shows that there have been bad times but they stil stuck together. "As Illinois goes rusing by I'm too tired to even try" this shows how far they've gone from what they were with the band's home state of Alabama and that they think maybe things should go back to what they were but they don't want to."Where will the sun come us for us today" meaning that they don't know what will happen in the future but they know somthing will like they know the sun will come up. "Turning bad days into better nights" is that even if they day goes bad the night will turn out better. "Waving smoke out the window" shows hat they are trying to get rid of the bad problems and what not. " catching my hand against the background of night. Dragging fingertips though consellations" is how they like the nights so much and how they wish it would never end."When we make the last turn for home we know half the battle is though" meaning they go on this long journey so to speak and when they decide to come back pehaps getting older they know that is only the first part and there is more to expirence.
I think this is definately one of their better songs and if I'm right on my interpretation it explains things very well for I can indeify with the story told. |
