Sting – Moon Over Bourbon Street Lyrics

That's right. I heard this song for the first time in 1986. I was 15 then and had never heard of Anne Rice. It took me several years to figure out what Sting was talking about. But because the song intrigued me, I kept listening to it. Then when I discovered the Vampire Chronicles, it hit me like a ton of bricks! I admire Sting so much. He can fashion a song out of almost anything. No one else writes with the same intelligence and emotion as Sting. Peace |

Heard this song for the first time when I saw Lethal Weapon 3. It's a different version than the one on the album. Regardless, this is a fantastic song. It shows the power of one true friend/romance. Peace |

10,000 Maniacs – Peace Train Lyrics

I used to have the "In my Tribe" cassette. I guess it was around '88. This song was on it. A few years later I heard that the band refused to release the version that included this song. It was something about how Cat Stevens was so far on the Muslim extremist bandwagon; threatening Salman Rushdie's life and all. Does anyone else know anything about this? I wonder if I had a collector's item. Hmmm....

The Cure – Disintegration Lyrics

The ULTIMATE break-up song! Before I was married, I would play this song whenever a relationship didn't work out. This song has all the elements of a failed relationship and literally reeks of emotion. "It's easier for me to get closer to heaven than ever feel whole again." My God, put the gun to my head and fire away! Here's a sure-fire recipe for singing the blues: Play this song back-to-back with Counting Crow's "A Murder of One" and Gin Blossom's "Hey Jealosy." Then tell me you aren't ready to either slit your wrists or camp out in your ex'es back yard with binoculars. Love Stinks! (Hey that was by the J Giles Band...hmmm).

I like this version ten times better than the Police's. We've all felt a little "crazy" at times, right? Peace |

Dave Matthews Band – Warehouse Lyrics

I love the reference to the "end of the tunnel" as the "spot in the TV." How many times have you turned off the tube and seen that ghostly "spot." Only Dave could spin it into a really cool lyric. This is my favorite Dave song because of all the twists and turns in it. You end up in someplace very different than where you started. Great song to listen to while on a road trip (no pun intended) at night. Peace |

Dave Matthews Band – The Song That Jane Likes Lyrics

Where are you Jane? Still flying the friendly skies? Swamp crashes got you down? Still hittin' the pipe in the dormroom darkness? Still alone everywhere you go? Explicating poems with devilish wit? Loved the time we had. I wish it could have lasted. Butts in the bushes-wonder if you ever cleaned them up?
Sorry, got wrapped up in memories. Funny how a song can bring back vivid pictures of by-gone days. Peace |

Dave Matthews Band – Dancing Nancies Lyrics

Every time I don my "Fire Dancer" T-shirt, I simply must play this song. Simply incredible! I have several versions of this song but one import cd has a great line where Dave opens up with, "You ever wonder what would've happened in your life if you had taken a left turn instead of a right?" We all second-guess what we could have/should have done. But in the end, now is all that matters. Peace |

Dave Matthews Band – Christmas Song Lyrics

I heard this song for the first time in '95 on an Atlanta radio station early one Sunday morning. A girl I was dating at the time was really into Dave, so I recognized the voice immediately. Halfway through the song, I literally got choked up. Like everyone has posted so far, Dave has a way of telling a story in his own unique fashion. Simply amazing. I sang (poorly I might add) this song last Christmas at my family's annual get-together. Even my elder relatives understood it without being judgmental. How many other contemporary songs can 80 year-olds understand, let alone, enjoy. Bravo Dave! Nothin' but love for ya! |

Fleetwood Mac – Landslide Lyrics

I remember hearing once this song was written about Stevie's grandfather (or maybe even her dad). Apparently, he introduced her to music at a very early age. He passed away and Stevie wrote the song. Who else but a loved one could be the "mirror in the sky?" It also seems to be reflecting on the circular nature of life. She climbs the mountain in the beginning searching for answers. In the end, she asks someone else to seach for his/her own answers. Nonetheless, a beautiful song. |

Ben Folds Five – Brick Lyrics

This song is way to personal for me, eery even. About 5 years ago, a friend and I were reminiscing about our college years, which we spent apart. Seems we both got into a situation described in the song. I'll never forget spilling our guts to each other and finding we had so much in common (maybe too much). Both of our relationships ended and we've had virtually no contact with our s.o.'s since then. What a bizarre time.
To me, this song serves as a warning to all of us: Keep your feelings in check and never lose your head, even for a second. Love is wonderful and should be cherished. But one passionate mistake can lead to many changed lives. Peace. |
