@HoldenC i think you missed what i was implying. the point of my previous post was to provide fact that jose covered the knife instead of the other way around, not to declare when they became prominent. i don't exactly agree with that statement anyway, since the idea of prominence is really dependent on where you live, as you suggested. |

aight, just to (help) set this straight, from wikipedia: "The [Knife] became prominent in late 2005 when José González covered "Heartbeats" on his 2003 album, Veneer." anyway, i've listened to this song more times than just about any other in the past couple of years. i have yet to get tired of it. the beat is a perfect example of one that you can dance or chill to. |

the first time i heard this song, i wasn't that big of a fan...but holy shit, i love it now. it took me a little while to get into how karin sings on this one. the steel drum synths sound so real and electronic at the same time. amazing. |

well this song is fucking awesome. it's on a snowboarding movie called afterlame by robot food, which i never really got into cause i love afterbang so much (which has agenda suicide on it). but damn, i watched it the other day, and i cannot stop listening to it. sooo underrated. makes me want to dance like a fucking crazy fuck. |

totally with you attractivecousin. i didn't know who he was, but after listening to this song, i had to look him up. such an interesting story. i really don't know what to make of that "i am really just like him" part of the song. i guess it's just that every single person has a/some deep dark secret that they don't tell anyone. still, what an amaaaaazing song. probably my favorite off of illinois. |

i have a live set of sujan. he performs this song and says that his father was burning trash in the back yard. eventually the whole yard caught on fire, and out of the smoke he had a "vision" of seven swans. not arguing, just saying that's where the idea/name came from. |

this was the first song i ever heard by the shins. it was on a snowboard movie (tb9 or tb10...can't remember which)..heard it like 3 years ago. such a great song. i honestly can't believe that so many people hadn't heard of them before garden state, but i must say, that the song fits very well into the movie. |

i think it's about a much older sibling that causes trouble and is torn by growing up and his family. "it's for your own good it's for the neighborhood" perhaps moving out and getting away so that no one wil have to up put with his mischief. "when daddy comes home you always start a fight so the neighbors can dance in the police disco lights" domestic violence maybe. damn alexander needs to calm down. that's just my interpretation, but still a very wonderful song. |
