Major Lazer – Get Free Lyrics 10 years ago
This song to me, is about poverty and how a person's spirit can be crushed by the futility of escaping it.

This is truly an amazing song.

fuck it, i'm ston'd..
Glósóli
When the low notes empathise,
And the high notes inspire me,
Where the enigma enchants me,
The beats put forth motion,
Which my heart commands,
There lies a boundless existence,
That can exist without dimensions or words,
(within my mind)
But lies the truth less than error can.

....just trying to live up to the name.lol. it's all a game.

I love the marching, underwater pace to this song. Makes me feel as if i'm in a dream, searching, and moving in a direction toward enlightenment.

Random.:
The sun is simple truth (reality), and love. (same thing)
Whether it be lost in your lovers eyes as she dreams at night, (where the ‘sun shines’)
Or confused with the endless night of existence,
When the sun moves out of dreamland, it shines brightest for 'us'.

Idlewild – These Wooden Ideas Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah...i think it's slating the postmodernistic/humanistic myth of 'making progress', - the indoctrination of the modern man/woman; selling us hope of progress in a Baconian package - when really this ideal is just as flexible as the flux of nature(wooden) - with the minds that create it (new religion?).

System of a Down – Know Lyrics 22 years ago
Ye i think freethinker got it. That people just follow the crowd religeon and immediatly have opinions.
Is it just me but does this remind anyone else of Plato's Cave Simile?
"I will never feed off the evergreen luster of your heart all because we all live in the valley of the walls when we speak we can peak from the windows of their mouths to see the land the women chant as they fly up to the sun"
- can't be botherd explaining it...it's just what it reminded me of.

Slipknot – Iowa Lyrics 22 years ago
This is my favourite slipknot song. It reminds me of purity a bit (the story behind it)
I think the song starts after the climax - the murder.
"Relax...it's over"

The guy now has her all to himself because no one can take her away from him now that she is dead. (Now that she is dead, no one else will want to love her. He can)
"you belong to me"
When he ‘fills her mouth with dirt’ he could be burying her (as in purity - but purity was alive - and fictional) Or he could be bringing such a perfect icon down to his level. He is personalising her. Making her so that no one else will want her because she is his toy now - his love; his fantasy.
"I fill your mouth with dirt"

The line; "I take your second digit with me... Love...", may be referring to the wedding finger (second from the end) digit meaning finger. Because she now belongs to him and she can’t belong to anyone else - the wedding finger being the symbol. He is trapping her from being with some one else by killing her; burying her and removing the symbolic representation of partnership. Either literally removing the finger or just metaphorically speaking it emphasises the guys possessiveness need to feel that she will always be his.

The fascination with the dead body becomes intense (he might think she is still alive - like in Psycho?) ;
"You are...my first,
I can breath
I find you fascinating
You are...my favorite,
lay you down to sleep
It's all that I can do to stop...Love..."
Showing that he was driven to kill her for his long dying love for her - he realised she was unatainable. He can "breath" maybe showing that he shows no remorse for his actions.
Other lines might just represent the guys love and fascination growing.

The lines;
"So blue...so broken,
paper doll decays
I haven't left you yet
So cold... subversive,
tour eyes are full of bleach"
Might show his reactions to her in weeks to come. He now feels sorry for her; he might not be as attracted to her; his love may have weakend a bit because of her appearance. She was such a pretty icon now ‘broken’ and polluted like him. Paper doll decays is an analogy just going over the line above. She was a beautiful girl that he fantasised over now she is rotting and decaying and she isn’t what he expected of her now that she is twisted like him. He tells the corpse that he hasn’t left her yet - showing that he was tempted to leave her.
"so cold… subersive " shows that he thinks she has tricked him with her looks; she led him on hinting at a better life with undying love; he thinks of her as twisted and treacherous making him fall in love with her. He is blaming it on her.
Her eyes are full of harm. He is describing her as being evil.

The end of it shows that he prefers to lust after people and stalk them because he is living in a fantasy but as soon as he tries to make it reality the girl isn’t what he expected making her subversive for leading him on?

Anyway the song makes me horny - I don’t want to have a relationship like that - but I like twisted music.

System of a Down – X Lyrics 22 years ago
I think the title X is showing the anonymity of the person. It shows how meaningless a life is to the government. X is always going to be somebody. The system relies on us ‘multiplying’ - without the excess of people lives become precious and that is what ‘the system’ doesn’t want. They need lives to waste. The more people they have the more powerful the system becomes and the more damage it can cause to other governments (more money made by more people and the larger the military becomes with more people)
System Of A Down are saying we don’t have to multiply - but we do.

They also say we don’t have to be nothing - we don’t have to be X, in the line; "We don't need to nullify"

Also the "show your people how we died" - might be a reference to the Armenian genocide or it might be talking about how "we" died….. a reference to the countless ‘meaningless’ lives sacrificed to the system.

I think there is an underlying issue that I’m not reaching thou’

System of a Down – Peephole Lyrics 22 years ago
"When your stars are baked"

-when what appears as unreachable becomes ready to ‘digest’
As some people say that marijuana helps you understand things more deeply - "it was like opening my third eye"
Also "baked" meaning stoned.

"And your rivers fly"
-basically meaning that what we thought as impossible ‘can’ happen to ‘you’ - effects of use, relating to the star thingy. - we can imagine things that we would have never of thought of without this ‘eye opener’

"When your castle breaks
And your feet are dry"
-When your protector from the world breaks - your ideology of drugs is shattered(like the castle) when you try marijuana because it’s not dangerous and you come to no harm(like your feet being dry)

"Do you ever believe you were stuck in the, Sky"
err.. I’d guess this would be asking the question if we thought we were ever living the ‘blind’ life, where the world is a good place and the place we live is the least corrupt, and that marijuana is an ‘evil’, ‘dangerous’ drug. - Did we ever believe this? I dunno

"Don't you ever get stuck in the sky,
Don't you ever get stuck in the sky,
Don't ever get stuck in the sky, when you're high"
-err..hmm….The addiction thing is most likely right but how does it tie into marijuana?
Metaphorically,…maybe it means that we should never believe what we’re told by the government, never get stuck in the ‘blind’ life - where we are living life ‘in the sky’ - like heaven because our society is apparently unflawed? And it is. When ‘your high’ might mean don’t change your mind when your important - when you’ve experienced the effects and now living the ‘blind’ life again(maybe like Bill Clinton was.lol) because it is better than reality? Being important in society as being the drug because we are all addicted to this life (and possetion) -
--I’m grasping at straws here… but I think that Serj was trying to describe two things at once here. Maybe? Huh?

"When your tunnel fades
And your guide is shy"

err…again guessing that tunnel might be symbolising the whole near death experience thing - seeing a tunnel with a light at the other end - light being an afterlife? (I dunno but I’ve heard that marijuana is used as a meditation aid.. and an astroprojection aid or something…I dunno)
But when it fades we would be lost without guidance…and we don’t have guidance.
The marijuana is our guide to the other side the better life…it helps us as a whole if everybody would just take it and not be so stubborn. It makes us free from the sky ideology - by using marijuana it is guiding us to live the better ‘non-blind’ life?

err just another opinion……..a weird one at that.

Nirvana – Territorial Pissings Lyrics 22 years ago
I think this song is about society. How the real world is cold, harsh and narrow-minded, when we should really be peaceful and love to one and other - (because that is what makes us happy)
All society is doing is marking there territory - "if you live here you have to share our views or get out" - hence Territorial Pissing. He talks about when he was an ‘alien’…(maybe referring to his childhood fantasy as said earlier)….Symbolising when he was new to the world - his first impressions on it - as an alien to our culture maybe? Then goes on to say "cultures weren’t opinions" - emphasising the small-minded -ness of people in general and how there ethnocentricity is inhibiting their logic. The people are stealing the ‘opinions’ of their religions and not thinking for themselves.
In the lines:
"Gotta find a way to find a way when I'm there
Gotta find a way - a better way - I had better wait"
These lines are perhaps showing his plan to escape this way of thinking. Or his plan to plan his escape from this way of thinking - or to a better place in general - but always being to scared of the consequences to go through with it - paranoia?

The phrase: "Never met a wise man, if so it's a woman" is a perfect example of him trying to escape the ‘mainstream’ way of thinking - he is choosing to think differently from everyone else and the concept of a wise man is a hoax. It could also be an analogy to something that’d make more sense.

One of my favourite quotes of all time:
"Just because you're paranoid
doesn't mean they're not after you"
This could serve as a warning to people that think that their logic is not inhibited by some environmental force, that it is. - They can influence you when you’re paranoid - so for all we know we could be thinking like that now. - It sets uncertainty itself if you’re paranoid or not your still at risk.

Of course what I’ve written in complete bullshit, so don’t take it seriously. I was hittin’ the bong tonight as well as Jovew probably was.

Deftones – Knife Party Lyrics 22 years ago
I love this song! It’s mellow and has a twisted sense of irony of how the dangerous image of the knife is immediately contrasted to sex. In the line: "We’re all anemic" It emphasises the futility of life and how the dangerous things excite us the most.

Slipknot – Skin Ticket Lyrics 22 years ago
I agree with the latter part of KILLogS bit about it being people in general trying to be something but in the end they die and become zero with nothing accomplished apart from a wasted life. The line:
"Come see my cage - built in my grain" - (the turning point)
He is inviting us to see what is trapping him - his cage - and adds that it is built in 'his' grain...grain maybe symbolising the small part - his life in relevance to the world. He is trying to show us how not to be zero. A ticket from him to a higher understanding. He sees himself as too far gone to be recovered. He’s sees himself as a martyr, suffering by living a condemned life, and eventually becoming zero, while teaching us what he has learned to try and show us what matters in life - and not to waste it.

The other rather enigmatic lines, I think mean something too:
Minus the inside and minus the circle
Inhabit the riddle and fill in the hovel
This may mean that a circle is nothing without the inside, maybe being an analogy to society - the inside being us. Then goes on to say ‘ inhabit the riddle and fill in the hovel’ - since being able to inhabit the riddle is obviously abstract maybe he is using a type of alliteration to contrast the impossible nature to what he is trying to achieve - condemning us once again to zero. I mean maybe he is saying inhabit the hovel and fill in the riddle - hinting that the way to escape zero is to go back to primitive nature - be animals once again and then, maybe you’ll see what life is really about - being able to solve the riddle. This is escaping society - linked to the circle metaphor.

Then he talks about himself being a martyr again….a saint and says:
"Keeping myself alive...
through your EMPATHY"
This could mean that we have to keep his spirit alive - not to forget him once he is dead - so his life wouldn’t have meant ‘zero’ - his life wasn’t to waste - because he has achieved something - helped his maggots in seeing straight.

System of a Down – Aerials Lyrics 22 years ago

I think that the line "always want to play but you never want to lose" is making reference to the average person in our society about how they always want to escape society and be free(not have a job, live off the land, etc) but are scared of the consequences of poverty or even death. These pessimistic ideas are forced upon us by ‘the system’ and are stopping us from reaching enlightenment, by replacing happiness with possession. By saying this line SOAD are hinting that our government or 'the system' is controlling our lives and condemning them to the bleakness of there small minded way of thinking.

Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics 22 years ago
I like this song. I also believe it’s about a mental breakdown hence the whole ‘Lithium’ discussion earlier. To me, I feel that the song means the shedding of ideology and not caring what anyone else thinks because he is happy(mad) and that is all that matters to him:
"I'm so ugly, but that's okay, 'cause so are you
We've broken our mirrors "
And:
"Light my candles in a daze
'Cause I've found god -…" - This could mean that he doesn’t care if his ‘candles’ go out because he’s through with caring about things (people). Time to be a bit reckless - as some people feel when they’ve been dumped. The fire in the candle may also symbolise his life.
He feels no contempt and is at complete peace and ease with himself.
Even although his happiness is perceived as madness who are we to judge him?

The song also hints at the cause of his decent into madness, as being maybe back-stabbed by a lover or someone

The song also hints at the cause of his decent into madness, as being maybe back-stabbed by a lover or someone he trusted:
I've found my friends
They're in my head
This might mean that he can’t trust anyone in the ‘external world’ anymore after his ordeal because he is bamboozled at how deceitful people can be. He makes do with himself, thinking that the friends in his head will never betray him - maybe brought on by the drug - I dunno (hallucinations? Or just insanity?)
He has now learned of the corruptness in the real harsh world and now wants to enter it again - as a different person - come back into reality out of his own world. He has now shed his beliefs in things: I'm so lonely but that's okay I shaved my head.
The shaving of his head being the shedding of his beliefs.
After that he comes to grip with things and is willing to realise his madness and his loneliness and wants to escape it.
The last part of it is when he starts to trust the world again and is ready to be apart of it again - he is excited because he is experiencing love and compassion again - he feels like noone has hurt him but in the climax he is constantly tryin’ to control himself from going off the other end - from being delerious. All in all, the song shows how brilliant life is and how illness and depression can be overcome - maybe not true since his suicide.

I think I’ve read a little too deep into it - it’s just when I started typing more things came into my head. I’ve probably gone off on a complete tangent. Open for criticism.
