Damien Rice – Silent Night Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, this may not make much sense, but it's just how I personally relate to this song and what it means to me. I see it as a kind of situation where she wants to stay with him, but he just wants her to go home so he can go to sleep instead of her spending the night. And she pretends to not care ("I found some hate for you/ just for show") and he tries to placate her by telling her that he loves her so she'll feel reassured enough to leave ("you found some love for me/ thinking I'd go"). I don't think I'm explaining this very well, but that's just how I interpreted this song.

Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics 20 years ago
This probably has nothing to do with the song, but for some reason I thought about it when reading the line "reminding you we used to be three and not just two".

There's this story about the creation of man that there were three sexes that basically looked like two people rolled into one: man and man, woman and woman, and woman and man. The gods thought that they were too powerful like this, so Zeus split them apart with his lightening bolt and created a huge storm to blow everybody away from their other half. The story goes that you spend the rest of your life looking for your "other half" or your soul mate, just trying to become whole again. So if you follow this story, there were originally three sexes and now there's only two.

Again, it's probably not what they meant in this song, but it's just what it made me think of.

Ben Folds – The Ascent Of Stan Lyrics 21 years ago
I could be totally wrong, but I always saw this song about a guy who was drafted into the war, and when he came back he wasn't the same anymore, maybe because of shell shock or something.

Counting Crows – Have You Seen Me Lately Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about someone who feels like they're invisible, and they feel like nobody cares enough to notice them suffering. They try to tell themself that they don't need anybody, because if they don't need anybody they can't get hurt, but all they really want is someone to look past the facade they've constructed and see who they really are.

Avril Lavigne – Naked Lyrics 21 years ago
Before I write this, I just want to say I am entitled to my opinion, this is a site to post comments/opinions/ideas, and I originally looked at these lyrics because I thought the song was pretty catchy, and, as often as it's been used before, I do like the first lines. So don't start bitching me out for being an "Avril hater" because I'm not. First of all, AAngel1 4U, that rock and roll hand sign you mentioned is not the same sign used for the word "why" OR the letter "y" in sign language. Trust me, I know, and it is not. I thought the Avril article definetly had it's strong points. She is very hypocritical. She has claimed in one article (I think in YM) that she's punk. A few issues later, same magazine, she says she never said she was punk and she doesn't understand why people get on her case about it. ????

Dispatch – The General Lyrics 21 years ago
This is just my opinion, but I think it's kind of odd that some people are saying that it's "so obviously about Jesus" or "so obviously anti-war". If it's so obvious, why are so many others debating it? Lots of times people take songs and interpret them to fit their own personal beliefs and opinions because then the song becomes more personal to them, even if their interpretation was not the bands original message. And that's not a bad thing. If a song makes a person happy or feel connected to someone/something, who are we to tell them they're wrong?

Finch – Ender Lyrics 21 years ago
Um, I like Dashboard Confessional, and I don't think that this is "shreaking jet engine noise". (That's a pretty inaccurate despcription of Finch in my opinion...) I actually really love this song. I think the lyrics are very true to real life and I like the way all the instruments come together.

Phantom Planet – The Local Black And Red Lyrics 22 years ago
I think this song is about a girl who's depressed ("so you don't hate yourself tonight") and misses friends from high school, and the guy in the song wants to be there for her but can't sometimes. I like the line "you'd hardly be aware that you were blinking". I think she's just kind of lost in her own world.

TRUSTCompany – Take It All Lyrics 22 years ago
He's right, it is. The lyrics are the best part of the song in my opinion.

Dashboard Confessional – Anyone, Anyone? Lyrics 22 years ago
I can relate to this song so much. I so afraid of being left behind.

Guitar7272 mentioned Yellowcard and the song "Roughdraft" and I have to agree: anybody who likes DC should listen to this. Awesome song.

And does anybody know which DC album this song is on?

Jack Off Jill – Strawberry Gashes Lyrics 22 years ago
Sealsanonymous, it's very insensitive to say that writing a song about cutting is stupid. You obviously don't know what it's like to feel so empty and alone that you hurt yourself. Someone else also said that it's masochistic, which it isn't. Masochism and self mutilation are two completely different things. Physchiatrists agree.

Penfold – June Lyrics 22 years ago
I kind of found Penfold by accident, and I'm so glad I did. This song is so beautiful. I love these lyrics, mostly because I can relate to them. My favorite line is "I wish that I could understand, why i'm so upset to see these things i'll never have". So sad, but so true.

From Autumn to Ashes – Short Stories With Tragic Endings Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is so beautiful and the lyrics are amazing. Took my breath away. Melanie Wills has a phenomenal voice.

"And it breaks my heart, to know,
The only reason you are here now
Is a reminder of what I'll never have..
I'll never have..
I'll never... "

I can relate so much, I'm in tears listening to this song. I've never really liked the loud, screaming kind of music, but this song is great.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Farewell and Goodnight Lyrics 22 years ago
I agree with Westsideduck. I can see that in this song. Not neccessarily killing yourself (but that also works), but maybe wanting someone else to be happy more than yourself, like loving someone so much that their happiness is all that matters.

Better Than Ezra – Teenager Lyrics 22 years ago
I can really relate to this song. My parents are going through a divorce and I hear my mother crying in her room at night. And sometimes I feel like no one can see me and nobody cares.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is so beautiful. Too bad it's so short, I could listen to it for hours.

Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics 22 years ago
everyone I know
goes away in the end

that's so true. sad, but true. i've come to the realization that no matter what I do, I'll end up alone in the end. I really admire Trent for putting his emotions out there like this. It takes guts to make yourself so vulnerable.

Keepsake – One Season Too Late Lyrics 22 years ago
"he's in the back of your mind all of the time. learn to forget. love . leave. forget."
I'm trying so hard to get over somebody right now, and this expresses so much of what I feel.

Wilco – Say You Miss Me Lyrics 22 years ago
During this time of the year when all my senior friends graduate, I ger really depressed because I have this fear that none of them will miss me at all. It's good to be able to listen to songs like this that you can relate to.

This is such a beautiful song. It was the first Getup Kids song I heard, and kind of got me hooked on them. I hope someday somebody feels this way about me.

Ben Folds – Annie Waits Lyrics 22 years ago
Sometimes I feel like being alone is safer than being with anyone, and when I heard the line "this is why I'd rather be alone" I just kept rewinding the song over and over again. The ending of this song makes it even more sad to me.

Ben Folds – Carrying Cathy Lyrics 22 years ago
I can't believe no one has written about this song. This song is so beautiful. Obviously, this song is about a girl named Cathy who committed suicide. I can really relate to the line "but to imagine a fall with no one at all to catch you".

"It doesn't take talent to be mean" - Jewel
Just a thought for all of you out there (ahem, retarded sloth, jerkoff, ajwi) who think you're "special" or something for making others mad.
To Steadlydrowning, etc. I love Perks of Being a Wallflower, and I can definetly see the connection. This song is beautiful. I love the piano in this song, and it has so much emotion. I've never actually been in a relationship with anybody before, but for some reason this song just hits me.

Remy Zero – Shattered Lyrics 22 years ago
I haven't heard the song yet, but these lyrics are beautiful. The only Remy Zero song I've actually heard is "Save Me", but I've read all the lyrics and liked them very much. I like songs I can relate to.

Third Eye Blind – Jumper Lyrics 22 years ago
The first time I heard this song I was in the car with my mom, and I had to bite my lip to keep from crying. I had been suicidal for a while and I could totally relate to the "jumper" in this song.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris Lyrics 22 years ago
I know this song wasn't written about cutting, but the line "You bleed just to know you're alive" sums up a lot of what I'm feeling. Cutters do what they do (in some cases) because they feel numb on the inside. Physical pain is easier to understand than emotional pain. I love the lyric "Everything's made to be broken." This is just abeautiful song. I don't want everybody to see the "real me" because I know they wouldn't understand. This song sometimes feels like a narrative to my life.

Lifehouse – Somewhere In Between Lyrics 22 years ago
I read in an interview with the guy from Lifehouse that he wrote this for his friend's girlfriend who he liked, and thought he'd treat her better and everything. When he played it for her, they started going out. They're married now.

Linkin Park – My December Lyrics 22 years ago
Okay, you guys can call me "gay" if you want (whatever), but I must admit, I like Dashboard Confessional. But that has nothing to do with this song, which I love. It has a haunting melody to it, and I love the lyrics.

From Autumn to Ashes – Chloroform Perfume Lyrics 22 years ago
My friend has the line "do you think it hurts much to die, it's hurting so much to live" on her binder, and ever since then I've had that stuck in my head.

Radiohead – True Love Waits Lyrics 22 years ago
The interesting thing about this song is I had once written a poem (before I had ever heard Radiohead before) with the line "I'll drown my beliefs" in it. Anyway, this song is very beautiful. I also like the line "I'm not living, I'm just killing time."

submissions
Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics 22 years ago
I even love the title of this song. I love the lonely, chilling feeling to this song, too. My favorite line is "I'm not here, this isn't happening." I feel like that a lot.

Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics 22 years ago

Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics 22 years ago
When I first heard this song I started crying. To me (personally) it's about self mutilation. The beginning of this song portrays exactly how I feel when I cut myself.
