I realize that a lot of Straylight songs are not about love. But I can't listen to this one and believe that it's not.

I can't believe nobody has commented on this song. This song is incredible. To me, it's after a breakup from a significantly long relationship. It's pretty self-explanatory, but one part that sticks out to me is..
Do you remember when,

And now I've become the joke,
A punchline's all I will be.
..that part is meaningful to me, because my ex (of 4 years) and I shared mutual friends. Now that we broke up none of them talk to me anymore (even though the breakup was mutual and nothing bad happened between us), and I often feel like I'm the topic of their conversation because they don't want me around anymore. I also like..

It kind of sucks when listeners know exactly what the singer was thinking/feeling when the song was written because I think it causes the listener to feel like there can't be any other meaning to that song.
I think of this song as some sort of reflection on a breakup. Certain lines in the song make me think that...
"I can't remember the last that you said as you were leaving, now the days go by so fast" With a lot of breakups, especially ones that need closure, the days following the breakup can go by so fast that it becomes hard to remember and explain what happened.
"The feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls" Sometimes after a breakup you feel like yeah...you can date again and you can meet lots of people. But there's nobody that really compares or sticks out or seems worth your time.
"And all at once you look across a crowded room to see the way that light attaches to a girl...And it's one more day up in the canyons, and it's one more night in Hollywood"
I think this part is either reminsicing about the first time you saw your ex, or about seeing someone new for the first time...the reference to the canyons and Hollywood is symbolic...those places mean something to the singer. Maybe, "Just another relationship that has started"
"I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower, makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her"
Since the song is about December, he's saying that the winter is kind of a sad season and a good time to reflect on the mistakes of the relationship and the regrets of the things he could not do to make it work.
"I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass"
Self-explanatory. Hindsight is always 20/20, and realizing you took things for granted really sucks.
"It's been so long since I've seen the ocean...I guess I should"
Maybe getting away is a good thing to do

I don't really know what to say about this song other than it's amazing. There are two versions to it, and I only like the one that's not very popular...it has different lyrics than what are posted here. Has more of a depressing drone to the music.
Amazing song. Not really sure what it's about. Cori_Pea I think you may be right. Either way, it's definitely reflecting on a lot of memories...and that's what makes it so depressing.

I think this is about someone questioning a break-up, recent or not. The person is questioning...is getting back together something I need, or am I just wishing that someone could be needing me just as bad as I think I'm needing my ex?
Also, the song jumps back and forth between right then and reminiscing. For example, "Day break on the boulevard / Feel the sun warming up your second hand heart / Light swimming right across your face / And you think maybe someday / Maybe someday" is that person coming out of the memory, and reality hitting him (the sun). And then, in that moment...hoping maybe someday, maybe someday he can figure everything out and/or work things out with the ex.
Very powerful song. Very good to listen to after a break-up. |

On another note, this song doesn't necessarily mean relationship break up to me. It makes me think of someone frustrated because they person they love doesn't love them back.
"I could stay here all day, but that's not how you feel." proves my point, as well as "What did I do that you can't seem to want me?"
I don't understand what they mean by "cheshire cat doorstop" though. Any thoughts? |

I do not like Britney Spears...I don't think she's a very good singer and I don't really think she's a good role model for young girls, yet her music still targets the adolescent age group. However, I enjoy this song. I can't listen to it over and over again because her voice gets on my nerves, but I enjoy the lyrics and I really, REALLY like the video. I don't really see the suicide aspect of it...it looks like an accident to me. And I would like to thank the person who pointed out that she gets hit in the head with a camera, because I never noticed that until I went back and watched closely - and you're right. She gets hit really hard and then the crowd catches her and fans try to get ahold of her. What I don't understand is why she doesn't notice she's bleeding until she gets into the bathroom...with head injuries you usually bleed a lot right away. Oh, well....the video's awesome anyway. |

I love this song. I think it's about analyzing a past relationship and even though it didn't work out, he tried to analyze this the best he could. My favorite part is:

because I think that truly captures how someone feels after a relationship didn't work out. He was "just guessing" to try to figure stuff out, nothing was definite. Hopefully that makes sense...? |

I looked up this sing just to figure out what his list means and I'm glad that I did, because I read a lot of good explainations. I think I agree with you BrandNewJersey. The list part is confusing, because at first he says he's "at the end of (my) wits with half the shit that gets in" and then he goes on to list rappers that I thought he liked...well, except from Andre from Outkast. But now it makes sense.
This song is one of my favorite on "The Eminem Show", along with "White America" and "Square Dance". |

A great song. I agree with most everyone on here. It's deep and takes at least 10 times through to finally get to where you can put your own interpretation to it. I think that's why it's so awesome - you can listen to it 50 times and still be thinking about it. It's good that it's so long - it takes me about 10 minutes to get to school so I can listen to it the whole time on the way there. I have a 20 minute car ride to go to work, so it's twice there :) I haven't listened to any other SoCo stuff...maybe I should. |

If anyone can interpret this song, it's me. I've listened to this song every day for the past year, and have not gotten sick of it. I've analyzed it, sung it, and picked apart every line. Glycerine is also a sugar, which is sticky. So mainly this song can be interpreted as a sticky relationship that you can't let go of. I would post an interpretation of the WHOLE song, but I don't want to make anyone mad. Besides..it's kinda one of those songs you should apply your own meaning to. |

This song is by far one of the most amazing songs I've EVER heard. I think all of you are right, to an extent. It's definitely about losing someone, but not necessarily to death. To me, it's about me losing my boyfriend and since we don't get to talk anymore, I never got a chance to thank him for all that he taught me. "MAY ANGELS LEAD YOU IN" means that I hope whatever he faces in the future, it'll be good for/to him. "THERE'S NO ONE IN TOWN THAT I KNOW / YOU GAVE US SOMEWHERE TO GO" describes how I felt immediately after we broke up. I'd spent so much time with him/thinking about him, that I forgot what it meant to be without him. "AND IF YOU WERE WITH ME TONIGHT / I'D SING TO YOU JUST ONE MORE TIME / A SONG FOR A HEART SO BIG / GOD WOULDN'T LET IT LIVE" is probably my favorite lyrics of the whole song. It means pretty much what it says...if I could just have one more night with him, I'd probably sing this song to him. "GOD WOULDN'T LET IT LIVE"? The relationship wasn't allowed to live. |
