i think the song is about his friends who died, as Valarouko was saying. the more i hear that....the more it seems to click. Especially this part:

this is probably my all time favorite radiohead song. it sends a chill down my spine everytime I hear it. radiohead is such an awesome group. very few musicians today can draw a listener into the music as radiohead can. i love it. absolutely love it. |

you know...piebald is kinda right. there truly is nothing new anymore. consider music. so many artists today are in one way or another building off the work of another artist. In the end, the musician's piece may sound completely new...but if you listen close enough...you can hear tinges of another artist's influence. there are some exceptions to the rule....but at some point in the future, other musicians will emerge with similar sounds and the original artist will no longer be totally new, unique and original. "I've waited all my life to find the newest craze. And it does not impress me. " (How true) and Art DOES repeat itself. (Note: This is an opinion and an opinion only. Please take it with a grain of salt)

"Please don't become what you own."
That is such a good line. This song really makes you think about materialism. And it's a sad thought to think that there are people out there like that. I also like the line "I wonder if you grow up here, are you stuck here for the rest of your life? ". Those people...for the most part...can never change. Once they become that wrapped up in that kind of life...they can't ever leave it. (Before anyone gets too upset...i bet theres a lot of exceptions to this....in my experiences, I haven't come across any of those exceptions. So please....hear me out....take my opinion with a grain of salt. Don't get offended. ) Piebald really writes some clever stuff.

So that's what happened to Magic Dave...that's awful....so, so sad, needless to say. Distorted Penguins are a great band. This was the first song of theirs I'd ever heard and have been a fan ever since. Although there other stuff is alot different from this one....cloud 9 will continue to be my favorite. And definately check out the buzz poets "Angel Eyes" I've never heard a more heartfelt tribute in my life. Even if you're not a big DP fan, this song will still strike some sort of chord in your heart. |

this is the first dashboard song i ever heard. (a local musician covered the song, but it was still extremely moving.) when i heard the actual dashboard version, those emotions were multiplied countless times. Chris is absolutely amazing. (I think I've said this in every Dashboard related post, but it's the truth.) The songs are just so honest and relatible in some way or another. I can't find the words describe it. It's amazing.....beyond amazing. |
