Aimee Mann – Deathly Lyrics 19 years ago
I guess she feels like she's falling for someone, or that she's going to lose control over a situation with this person, and she's asking him nicely to stay away. She realizes that he's going to charm her, and that it's a bad idea for her to get into this relationship.

Aimee Mann – The Moth Lyrics 19 years ago
The song is about superficial relationships, ones that aren't real and don't have anything under the surface. Like the moth doesn't care if the flame is real, or low, or if it's just smoking, it's talking about a more instant gratification sort of situation; people clinging to eachother because it makes them feel good for the moment.

Aimee Mann – Humpty Dumpty Lyrics 19 years ago
Another wonderful Aimee Mann song, and another of my favorites. I interpret it as someone whose life has just fallen apart around her, maybe she's sunken into depression. She wants to be able to put the pieces together and figure things out, but she just can't. Realizing this, she knows that her relationship can't go on until she pulls her life back together. His staying isn't going to help her, and it's eventually going to bring him down. She appreciates how he's stuck by her, but she knows she's a different person, and more than he's bargained for. The quicksand line is, in my opinion, just her telling him that his staying around is going to drag him down too. In the end, she knows it's not worth it to salvage what they had; things are just too different. I was in a relationship very similar to this, and it's true.

Aimee Mann – Invisible Ink Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, she's a girl who is trying to tell someone something that he just doesn't understand. No matter how hard she tries to explain, or illustrate, it's invisible to him. I love the line "I feel like a ghost who's trying to move your handsover some ouija board in the hopes I can spell out my name." She's trying really hard to make him understand and to love and value her, but in the end, it's her doing all the movement and work like someone playing Ouija. She knows things have lost the glamour of their initial attraction, but she can't explain why and he doesn't see it the same way she does, so they can't fix things. My other favorite line is "I suppose I should be happy to be misread, better be that than some of the other things I have become." I think she's saying that in a way, it's good he doesn't understand... because she doesn't think he'll like the person she is now, anyway.

This is a wonderful song, and sends chills down my spine along with most of Aimee's other songs.

Ben Folds Five – Smoke Lyrics 21 years ago
If anyone has read the book "Farenheit 451," this song also seems as if it could relate to it's book burning theme.

Ben Folds Five – Narcolepsy Lyrics 21 years ago
In ways, I agree with everyone who's posted... except for I think it's more "emotional" narcolepsy than physical. I believe it's about someone dealing with depression, at least I find it easy to relate to in that way, having gone through it myself. Depressed people become withdrawn, emotionally detached and numb, and do spend a lot of time sleeping, because it stills the pain, at least until they awaken.
