Okkervil River – Red Lyrics | 14 years ago |
That would make this the first song about Shannon Wilsey, not the third. I noticed that it was mentioned on Shannon Wilsey's wikipedia article that this song (along with the other two) are about her. Does anyone have a link to an interview or similar source saying that this is true? |
Ben Folds Five – The Last Polka Lyrics | 15 years ago |
To me, this song is about the point in the relationship where you know there's no hope to save it anymore, and all you care about is hurting the other person more than they hurt you. "Now we're treading water" is a metaphorical reference to a sinking ship. Once you're treading water, there's no hope for the ship, it's going down no matter what. |
Okkervil River – A Favor Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I saw them in concert. Before this song, Will said "This song is about being a kid and being in love with your best friend." |
The Decemberists – The Sporting Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's about YMCA soccer. I saw them in concert, and that's what he said. Yeah, making posts that actually talk about the meaning of the song is fun =D |
Okkervil River – Lady Liberty Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I also think it's about a girl (too many of the lyrics, I just couldn't see how they'd apply to a country or economy). I think he calls her Lady Liberty because she acts so freely that she really doesn't care what she does or how it effects other people, and, I also gleemed from the song that she might have trouble keeping her legs together. Notice how many times he mentions that "there's a bathroom down the hall"? I think he says this as kind of a polite way of saying "get the hell out" and then repeats it to make the message more clear. |
Okkervil River – Kansas City Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Mark 15:34- And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"--which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? |
Okkervil River – Westfall Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think the idea behind this song is that even oo or normal people are capable of doing really bad things. Because he's not asking for us to feel sorry for him (like he does in "The War Criminal Rises and Speaks," but he just makes himself sound like a normal guy (who happened to kill a girl he didn't know). |
Okkervil River – Seas Too Far to Reach Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Try "Rapture," by Pedro the Lion Not this whole song is about sex; it seems to be just his day in chronological order, begining with, and ending with, sleep. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Transatlanticism Lyrics | 20 years ago |
It's amazing that this song is on the top 10 list; the lyrics are so easy to understand on the CD version =P I was lucky enough to see them in concert when they were promoting this, and then again on thier most recent tour, but I didn't get to hear this song.... Anyways, on the the analysis: Benjammin, you're interperatation sounds very good, and I'm going to disagree just for the purpose of brainstorming; I think this song is about a physical seperation, rather than a figurative one, though many elements are figurative. I think something suddenly sprang up, which seperated him from someone he cares about, and the degree of seperation caused him to mentally compare it to the Atlantic, and so, he ceated this song to compare with some fictional people who were seperated when the Atlantic appeared. Of course, the sky never jsut opened up and let the Atlantic out, so the basis of this ficticious pair of seperated people is represented by a highly fantastic, almost biblical, story-line OMHO =) |
Mindless Self Indulgence – Dicks Are For My Friends Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Rather than just spewing "OMFG MSI IS teh ROxx0RZ!" does anyone actually have an opinion on what the lyrics of this song mean? |
Death Cab for Cutie – Prove My Hypotheses Lyrics | 21 years ago |
With such short and, seemingly, unrelated lyrics, this is a hard to to figure out. Even if you can't, it's a great song, especialy for the insturment break towards the end. One meening that's a possibility, but probably not true, has to do with the lyrics "just admit that you're wrong and i'll give back what i borrowed or stole" and "prove all my hypotheses" and how they reminded me of a break-up I was having at the time. During the relationship, I had suspected that this one guy who was always hitting on her was a problem, and she told me not to worry about it, but in the end, she left me for him, proving all my hypotheses. The "just admit that you're wrong..." part just seems like general stubourn fighting with someone, like as in after a break-up. Allthought this probably isn't what DCFC intended for the meening of this song, it's on interperatation. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Why You'd Want to Live Here Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I'm agreeing with the needleskips. He's not saying thatt LA is bad for any particular person, just that LA is bad |
Death Cab for Cutie – I Was a Kaleidoscope Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This seemed like a very interesting song in the most part, lyrically. Allthough a majority of the song is simply describing winter conditions, DCFC would never make a song so shallow or simplicit, however, and there is the part in the middle that diverges away from a winter theme and seems more to be speaking of a relationship. My thoughts on the song is a description of a single day, and describing it, rather than in order of how the thought flows or in order of importance, simply in cronological order, and what's percieved as a break-up happening in the middle-end, as it did chronologically. |
