It's so cool to read about you young guys listening to and commenting on classic rock

Justin Hayward & John Lodge – Nights, Winters, Years Lyrics 21 years ago
Nice song, but seems like it was an attempt to recreat Nights in white satin. I give it a B+

Justin Hayward – Forever Autumn Lyrics 21 years ago
J.H. is so good at creating moods that invoke feelings of time. For instance this definately feels like Autumn. Its wistfull and sad. Part of why Days of Future Past was so good is that he was able to set the moods of certain times of the day.

Paul McCartney – Maybe I'm Amazed Lyrics 21 years ago
Definately one of paul's best

Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street Lyrics 21 years ago
What cracks me up is that there are plenty of comments for the
Foo Fighter's cover of this tune but none for the original. Thats a shame. The original is really great (and not that old relatively). I guess it shows that its primarily young people contributing to this site.

Dan Fogelberg – Leader of the Band Lyrics 21 years ago
You are right on ballzofsno. Dan is saying that he is who he is because of his father's influence

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Wooden Ships Lyrics 21 years ago
My take on this is that its after some kind of hollocast or nuclear war and some people were able to get away in wooden ships. They are afraid and hungry and can do nothing to help the people on the shore.

The Moody Blues – The Story In Your Eyes Lyrics 21 years ago
This song kicks butt. You rarely find such a rockin song that has real meaning and significance. And to tell you the truth i am frightened for our children. Now more thatn ever!

The Moody Blues – Nights In White Satin Lyrics 21 years ago
Regarding the comment by grouping, it's interesting, on the album cover is a cartoonish picture of a small Knight in white so your conception is not entirely unintended. This is a great song. When it first came out it was like nothing I'd ever heard. Justin Hayward's voice has such a pleading, wistfull quality, really moving!

Kansas – Dust In The Wind Lyrics 21 years ago
I think the song is just pointing out that "hey, the things we think are sooo important just aren't so important in the end". I don't think that it precludes a spiritual perspective gunfyter

Badfinger – Without You Lyrics 21 years ago
I thought this was a Bread tune? I don't think Badfinger did this.

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 21 years ago
Spando dude. just cause idiots write thesis about what they think a songwriter means doesn't mean that crap is really there. You can read metaphore and unintended meaning into literally everything. Take it from me, (I've been a professional musician and songwriter for many years and I know many professional songwriters), you're giving songwriters way too much credit. The symbolism, metaphore and hidden meaning you are imagining in songs just isn't there most of the time. For most, the process is much more a process from the heart and gut and just not that complicated and contrived. There are a few songwriters in the last 50 years who have written that way but the vast majority have not. Don Henley's not one of them.

The Beatles – She Loves You Lyrics 21 years ago
This is the absolute premier rock/pop tune of all time. I remember at the time it sounded to me like something from another world. I'd never heard anything like it. Still today, as a musician, I marvel at how well crafted the tune is. Where did they come up with those chord changes and haunting harmonies so early in their career? This may be the best, most perfectly written song the Beatles ever did. "yeah yeah yeah" maye seem simple but don't kid yourself, rock doesn't get any better than this!

The Beatles – Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey Lyrics 21 years ago
To pkjun. I can't say what the song is about but actually there was a point in time when John (and Yoko) was addicted to heroin. It wasn't well publicized. It was around the same time that Eric Clapton was addicted to Heroin. Anyway they had some doctor trying to "cure" them. he tried methadone and a bunch of other stuff. Finally John got clean and took up being a "house husband".

Jackson Browne – Doctor My Eyes Lyrics 21 years ago
This song contains some of the best, most meaningful lyrics in rock music to date and I'm not particularly a Jackson Browne fan

America – Sister Golden Hair Lyrics 21 years ago
Personally this is my favorite America song. They were a really good soft rock band and that definately played a role in the whole picture of rock music. Soft rock is as important as any other derivative (progressive rock, hard rock , heavy metal). They would have been better if the lyrics had been better

America – A Horse With No Name Lyrics 21 years ago
The chorus to this song is sooo bad. Its forced rhyming is one of the worst examples in rock

Yes – Roundabout Lyrics 21 years ago
I love Yes. They are incredible musicians and singers however I wouldn't get too hung up trying to understand Yes lyrics. My understanding is they are all basically meaningless except in a real general way. They are written basically for how the words sound tonally. They are intentionally intricate, complicated and obtuse to match the incredible musical virtuosity throughout their music. Simple lyrics just wouldn't cut it in these songs.

Toad the Wet Sprocket – Crowing Lyrics 21 years ago
The bandmember who wrote these lyrics must know something about Addiction and Codependency. As a therapist i've actually used this song in a codependency group i do.

It perfectly describes how codependents search out people they feel they can help "it was never a question, he was crowing for repair".

AS the relationship progresses so does the addiction, codependency and resulting resentment, "While you were sleeping with the angels
He was under the bed
And the more skin
That you shed
The more that the air in your throat will linger
When you call him your friend"

and finally, most important of all for my group is the awareness that she too needs help, "And it was never question
You were crowing for repair..."

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 21 years ago
Guys...Jeeze...Its just a dream. Don Henly had a dream and embellished it and put it to music. It Has no actual meaning except what you might want to interperet a dream like that to mean

Don Henley – The Boys of Summer Lyrics 21 years ago
Well... I think people are getting the wrong meaning from these lyrics. Furthuko was right on! This isn't about youth or summer. Its about the passing of youth of love of time and of innocence.

"Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadilac. A little voice inside my head said don't look back you can never look back" is one of the greatest symbolic lines in all of rock. It says "look how much things have changed". this line always gives me chills!

It might be a great beach song but it always felt to me like an end of summer sort of melancholy song. It's a guy saying to a girl "I remember what it used to be like. I can still picture the young and tan you on the beach. I loved you then, I love you still and when you're done trying to hang on to the endless summer I'm still gonna be here".

Eagles – Love Will Keep Us Alive Lyrics 21 years ago
This song says exactly what I want to say to the woman I love most - Chickie Talawickie. It's the description of how we found each other

Eagles – Tequila Sunrise Lyrics 21 years ago
This is a tough one. I think chub is right. Its about a guy who hooks up with his buddy's girlfriend and feels guilty.
"she wasn't just another woman, and I couldn't keep from comin on". If it was on the up and up why would he have to keep from comin on?

"hollow feeing" and "dealing friends" is guilt about deceiving his friend.

Tequila sunrise refers to that bleary eyed dawn of hangover and dread.
