30 Seconds to Mars – Stranger In a Strange Land Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think the distorted bit at the end he is saying: "Crash and Burn" |
U2 – Treasure (Whatever Happened to Pete the Chop) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Who is Pete the Chop? Ive no idea what it has to do with the song. But its a great song none the less. |
Del Amitri – Surface Of The Moon Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Justin Currie in Q Magazine 1993. "In this song, I imagined Patrick Moore, looking into a mirror and singing a eulogy to his favorite hat, Mildred, which he had left on a number 12 bus near the BBC. Mildred's replacement is a poor substitute - a British Home Stores carrier bag all wrinkled and crumpled with rain." |
U2 – Walk To The Water Lyrics | 14 years ago |
North Strand & Summerhill are streets in Dublin down towards the docks and the sea. The Royal Hotel may refer to the Royal Marine Hotel in Dublin which has a sea facing view. Haunting song possibly inspired by a walk down to sea front in Dublin given the above evidence! |
U2 – Acrobat Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love the line "In Dreams Begin Responsibilities". In other words, be careful what you wish for! |
Miley Cyrus – The Climb Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Life is a journey, not a destination. |
Del Amitri – Out Falls The Past Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Justin Currie interview from The Scotsman 22nd March 2002. Out Falls the Past is about a man who "changes women like traffic switches lanes". Is it personal? "Not really. To sound horribly 1980s for a moment, I'm a serial monogamist. But it becomes harder and harder for the opposite sex to trust you if they know your romantic history." He's in a relationship at the moment. "If I ever try being a floozie, women run a mile." |
Del Amitri – Drunk In A Band Lyrics | 14 years ago |
From The Scotsman 22nd March 2002 interview with Justin Currie. Then comes Drunk in a Band, a real list song. You point this out and he winces. "So it is. I hate list songs, Billy Joel killed them with We Didn't Start the Fire." But its a good one, you say - "Danny puts the cones on the motorway, Donna dances tables in her lingerie" - it's characters sound like real people. "They are. They're characters I knew when I was living in a rented flat in Partick. Great days." |
Miley Cyrus – Bottom of the Ocean Lyrics | 15 years ago |
From Miley Cyrus herself. Taken from her autobiography Miles To Go (Page 49): "Bottom Of The Ocean started off as a song about Lyric and Melody {her pet fish}. But once I began writing, it was about so much more than my silly fish (no offence to the fish RIP) It was about anyone's dreams, boyfriends, a lost parent, an abusive relationship. It's saying if there's someone you've loved but for some reason you can't love them anymore, you have to take your feelings, scoop them out and put them at the bottom of the ocean. Hide them there, carefully and respectfully, in the one place where they can't ever be found. Bottom Of The Ocean is a 'good-bye' song, a love song. You'd never think it was about fish. Well except for the 'ocean' part. |
New Order – Leave Me Alone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"A hundred unions in the snow I watch them walking, falling in a row" Probably written during strikes in the 80's but relevant on a snowy 2nd February in 2009 with unions on strike once more. |
The Saturdays – If This Is Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Samples Yazoo - Situation (or Yaz as they were know in the USA). Pretty straight forward song otherwise. |
Keane – Spiralling Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The song is mosly about a relationship and trying to keep it together, but theres more to it. "Did you wanna be the president? Did you wanna start a war?" A dig a George W Bush. "I'm waiting for someone to count me in" When recording a song you may ask for someone to give you a countdown so you know when to start. |

I think Novocaine for the soul is a reference to Prozac. |
Kelly Clarkson – Irvine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
As other posters have pointed out it was written in Irvine California. Heres a quote from Kelly about it: "The last song on [My December], ''Irvine,'' it literally was the lowest point I've had in my life. I wrote it after my Irvine [Calif.] show on my last tour. I was just so burned-out. I was really struggling at getting somebody out of my life and finding people that really cared. The whole song is a prayer. I wrote it in the bathroom of the venue after the show. I had to cancel my meet-and-greet; it's the only meet-and-greet I've ever canceled. I couldn't smile. It was just a really, really bad night." http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20038857,00.html |

The Bangles – I'll Set You Free Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Don't think I can add much more to this. Other poster seem to have got it spot on. Its about a love thats faded and they decide to split up. Beautiful but sad :( |
Dubstar – A Northern Bride Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is such a sad song it makes me cry. Its the B Side to the Elevator Song single. Most people wont know of it. Its about splitting up with a partner who treated her badly and thought of her as worthless. All she wanted was respect a child and to be happy. She decides time isn't on her side and leaves him. |
S Club 7 – Say Goodbye Lyrics | 17 years ago |
S Club 7's swan song and the last single they released in May 2003. The lyrics could be taken to be about the group splitting or could be about a relationship breaking up. After a year or more passes will they still be bitter about the breakup? Sad and beautiful song. Nice one to end with. |
Debbie Gibson – Too Fancy Lyrics | 17 years ago |

U2 – Wake Up Dead Man Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In reference to the line: "Is it like a tape recorder? Can we rewind it just once more" If you listen closely at the end of the song you will hear a tape recorder being rewound. |

A cover version of the song used on MASH (Film / TV Series). Originally sung by Johnny Mandel with lyrics by Mike Altman (Robert Altman's son) then aged 14. |
Lily Allen – Cheryl Tweedy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Now now x.Rosenrot.x! This song was released as the B Side to Smile in July 2006. As this was her 1st successful single and brought her to the medias attention. Thereafter Lilly and Cheryl started mouthing off at each other. The B Side was probably recorded before they met or before started hating each other. Is it sarcastic or serious? Ive no idea! |
Dubstar – St. Swithin's Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
St. Swithin's Day is 15th July, a day on which people watch the weather for tradition says that what ever the weather is like on St. Swithin's Day, it will continue so for the next forty days. |
The Feeling – Sewn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hey *Juice* I think I got it pretty much right in my origional comments. I read an interview with the lead singer Dan Gillespie and he said "My habit of falling in love with straight men doesn't help" You can download the interview here in PDF format: http://www.box.net/public/static/i6cerq1s03.pdf |
The Smiths – That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the song is about someone Morrissey loves but they don't love him back. He wants a relationship but they just laugh it and take the piss out of "lonely" people. The backdrop of the song is a car parked in a lay-by. Morrissey gets to have sex with them "It was dark as I drove the point home" (double entendre) and hopes they he might die with a smile on his face instead of being lonely. One of my favourite Smiths songs. |

Easy one this its about alcohol abuse. Yes eric_m that is a great line! |
Pet Shop Boys – West End Girls Lyrics | 17 years ago |
CharmingMan is right. Quote from Neil Tennant: "We arrived in the studio and Bobby O had programmed Michael Jackson's Billie Jean drum pattern. Chris started to play along and I started playing chords. In terms of the lyrics, the inspiration for West End Girls came from The Message by Grandmaster Flash. I remember once staying at my cousin's house in Nottingham and we were watching some kind of gangster film with James Cagney, and just as I was dropping off to sleep, the lines 'sometimes you're better off dead, there's a gun in your hand and it's pointing to your head' came into my head and I thought 'that's quite good' so I went off to find a pen." |
Hot Chocolate – It Started With A Kiss Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The story of a childhood sweetheart growing up and growing apart. He sees her several years later on the streets. He shouts across the street to her but she doesn't remember him. "You don't remember me do you?" A very sad story :( |
Charlotte Church – Moodswings (To Come At Me Like That) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow this perfectly describes my relationships with certain people! Some people just know what buttons to push to really piss you off! Great song. "I try to keep my cool, thus, that’s what I try to do But it’s so hard dealing with people just like you I try to walk away from situations that run Into complications that make me loose control If I give in to you then it’s what you want me to do And if I loose my cool then I’m only pleasing you You know just how to push me, My temperature is rising Blood pressure is building, I’m about to loose control" |
Manic Street Preachers – No Surface All Feeling Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This always make me think of someone talking pish (rubbish) "No not blood just liquid from you I only wish it was the truth" Anyway my favourite line is: "What's the point in always looking back When all you see is more and more junk" I go along with these sentiments! |
Tiffany – Butterfly Lyrics | 17 years ago |
