Uncle Outrage – Explode (Studio Mix) Lyrics 20 years ago
Only need one word to describe the meaning of this video...
Masturbation. Wow. If I'm wrong that'd suck.

Uncle Outrage – Discover the Worm Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is supposed to be about people who are "low" people who are always doing things which are just wrong. That's my take on it.
Also the video is great, robots=awesome.

Uncle Outrage – Crossdresser Lyrics 20 years ago
Amazing vocals done by Nills. The meaning of the song is more than obvious--A boy who dresses as a girl.
The only confusing, and odd part is the dog part thrown into the middle.
And the end may not be valid lyrics I'm not sure if he says "I'll shuffle along, instead of feeling"

If you see Uncle Outrage live you may understand some of the irony in this. Nills usually wears girls tanktops and other forms of female clothing.

Tsunami Bomb – Take The Reins Lyrics 20 years ago
Someone becoming 18 and learning of the responsibilities of the world. Before this they never took ahold of any,and suddenly they're being swamped down, bills, jobs to pay the bills, pure hate of their job.
The last verse shows that
"locked in, can't get out.
your cube is your new home." They work, but hate their job, but have to do it to live.

Tsunami Bomb – Headlights On A Hand Grenade Lyrics 20 years ago
Quite obvious meaning to it. Everything right down to the title. She's depressed. She drinks to get rid of it. While drinking and driving she kills someone, but still she seems to pity only herself.

The Blood Brothers – Ambulance vs. Ambulance Lyrics 20 years ago
New video to this song. It's GREAT. It's just as artistic as the song itself...
If you read through all of their lyrics for their albums, especially Burn Piano Island, Burn you notice the Blood Brothers take on a bit of a progressive edge. The Ambulance Angels are in a way like his punishment for everything he did wrong. He gave up on the things that mean most to him, family, job, for his dirty fantasies. I honestly can't decipher the meaning of most of the Blood Brothers songs since it's quite metaphorical, though.

The Blood Brothers – The Shame Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this is about the character who the Blood Brothers write. But in a way he's realizing that the stuff he does makes everything go wrong. "How many whores 'till you send away for that trophy?" A lot of the CD seems to have this character using women, and perhaps he realizes it.

Nine Inch Nails – Ripe (With Decay) Lyrics 21 years ago
I agree, this is the best instrumental. But all you people saying NiN makes killer instrumental. You want Killer Instrumental, just take the lyrics out of almost any song. All of Trent's music is killer!
I wish they'd put lyrics to this. =( It would.. Be freaky. Yet.. Great and Intriguing.

Nine Inch Nails – Physical (Adam and the Ants cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
This.. I find weird coming from a mans point of view... To me it sounds like this. Trent wants to get serious with someone. He wants to have commitment. His heart already belongs to her. But she's too physical. She wants only a sexual relationship.
Even though it also sounds like he hasn't had sex with her yet.
So that also led me to think.. "Too physical" Physical is just another word for "real." Maybe he thinks he doesn't stand a chance with this woman because he sees himself as a fake.(Though I could never see Trent as viewing himself in that way. But the song isn't necesarilly about him either.) Or even if not a fake, just not standing a chance.

Nine Inch Nails – Big Man with a Gun Lyrics 21 years ago
Okay, the Tori Amos and Trent Reznor meaning makes a lot of sense since the two of them are great friends. And Tori did make a song that has a lot to do with it.

At the same time, I agree with becky's comment the most.
I mean her comment makes perfect sense.
Trent tends to write about things he sees in the world that he thinks are stupid. I could use better words, but stupid is just the best to explain it.
Usually he sticks to religion, but in this case, he's saying what's with men and needing affirmation of things, and going after it in the form of things like rape.
And that still works with the Tori Amos. He's looking from the rapists point of view. This man, just your regular.. Normal.. Fan Boy.. Right?
He wants to feel BIG.. Well Rape does this to men. Gives them a feeling of power. And in this case, it's not just any woman, it's a famous singer. Right?
So this guy feels real good about himself, real, big. And the whole time he hid behind a gun, while raping someone.

Bet that made him feel big. Having it put into terms like that.
Trent might as well just say. "Hey, doubt she cared about the size of your dick, or you. You weren't in power. The gun was. It was all the gun."

"me and my fucking gun"
"shoot shoot shoot"
He makes the song revolve more around the gun than the rape. Sort of takes away the "masculinity" the "power" that the rapist might have been feeling.

Nine Inch Nails – Heresy Lyrics 21 years ago
I like what Empire Of Dirt says the most.
Trent Reznor is Athiest! Not -just- anti-christ. He doesn't like religion whatsoever.
And he says why in this song.
"He flexed his muscles to keep his flock of sheep alive"
We're his flock of sheep. He's depicted as all powerful. The strongest being. It's supposed to keep us in line, to keep us from destroying ourselves.
"He made a virus to kill off all the swine" In one of my religious arguments I was told that in the Bible God DID make a virus at some point. (Of course this is just bullshit, people ever hear of a plague? Lmao.)
But then what dorepoll says makes sense as well.
God Is Dead No One Cares.
Meaning, to him, and many others now a days. God is dead. We don't care about him. None of us really follow religion(There are some still though.)
And "If there is a hell I'll see you there"
Supposively if you don't have faith you'll go to hell. Sooo.. If there is a hell, all of us who don't believe will be there. ANd Trent obviously doesn't have Christians for a target audience, so he's saying that to us, his listeners and fans.

"His perfect kingdom, of killing suffering and pain"
Earth was supposed to be the perfect kingdom for us humans, but there's killing, suffering, and pain running rampant all over. We all feel suffering, and pain at one point. We all see killing happening somewhere, if not just the news.
"Demands devotion, atrocities done in his name"
If you're not faithful, you'll go to hell. Simple and done. That's what the bible says.
Atrocities done in his name; What do we call Tornadoe's, flash floods, typhoon's, or any "natural disasters"? We call them "acts of god." And they all kill, destroy, and cause pain in some form or another.
So lollirott, it's not sarcasm. It's his true belief.

See? Trent is just singing how he disagrees with religion, and if there is a god, he's full of misdevotion. And if everything that is said to keep us in line for religions is true, then we'll be in hell. But the song also clearly states that he doesn't care if he goes to hell for being unfaithful.
"God Is Dead No One cares" That's what the chorus is saying.
"So what, I don't believe in you, if you're there, send me to hell."

The start also has a lot of meaning:
"He Sewed his eyes shut because he is afraid to see"
This is the person who made christianity, he's afraid to see how the world is, he wanted it changed. He wanted it to be "perfect."
"He tries to tell me what I put inside of me"
Well... Isn't it true? Christianity tries to tell us what we're all about. What our emotions should be.
"He Got the Answers to ease my curiousity"
People always have questioned: "Who, What, Where, When, How."
So, Christianity was made to try and answer these questions. (Sounds a lot like a legend now, doesn't it?)
And what's all of this tie in to create...!? GOD! Christianity in general! Voila! =D
So this is what I think the song is about.

Nine Inch Nails – Burn Lyrics 21 years ago
...Any of you putting the meaning?

Here's what I think:
It's about God. And obviously his dislike for God.
"flock of sheep" well.. More like Christianity. Trent rarely actually implies "God" he more often sticks to "Christianity" like in Heresy.
The "thing" inside of him that opens up his eyes is an emotion of some sort. I'm not going to try to say any of them because there's too many that it could be.
But Insecurities would be a good one, Trent has written about Insecurities before, and often Insecurities seem to be described as a living thing.
I think it's Trent trying to say he hates Religion's and he wants them to "burn down" he wants to be the one to make people realize that they're wrong to believe in them.

Nine Inch Nails – Closer to God Lyrics 21 years ago
This is the version BEFORE Closer. I think he expanded this into Closer. And if you read this, this makes it easier to understand Closer as well... When I read this I think kind of a brutal rape.. And he regrets that he did that.
Two parts are quite hypocritic to:
"I've got no soul to sell"
To me that means by doing whatever he did he gave his soul away, he's ashamed of what he did.
But at the same time
"You can have my absence of faith"
Well I'm sure if you're a NiN fan you've realized by now he's either Athiest(i think so) or Anti-Christ. You can take your stand on that one. And by saying he sold his soul("I've got no soul to sell" he lost it, so he can't even sell it now.) He's saying he does have faith in something.

I don't know this is just what I feel when I hear this song.

Nine Inch Nails – March of the Pigs Lyrics 21 years ago
Everyone who said something about the Manson is sort of true.... Not in a big way though. There wasn't a pig carved in her pregnant belly by the way. They used her blood to write "PIG" on the wall. And so in a way a few pieces with this might work you know. There was a lot to do with "pig" written on the walls because the manson's were waging a war against cops in a way... But that's not the meaning of the song to me.

I think it's the war against the "pigs" or voices in his head. This song ties in so much with Piggy. I think he was trying to get rid of the Piggy's in his head. But most of the song is about him losing the battle. And in a way he starts to feel happy that they're beating him.
A lot of it sounds like something ordering him around.. Just read it. And it's also a lot of desperation in it too. "Crawl Right Up On Your knees' And "(No time to hesitate)" they are causing him to do irrational things.
I might not be right just pieces of the song make me think that it's a war against the pigs. And I think it's the pigs who are singing it basically. "I wanna watch it come down' his wall... Or fight against them. "I think he's losing it" he's losing either his mind, or the fight.
They're afraid of his fighting them and so they make him feel like it's all a bunch of lies, forcing it to break down again.
Anyone agree?

Nine Inch Nails – Piggy Lyrics 21 years ago
Good point wayne. (Lol my first posts were my first on song meanings =( ) The song does give off many meanings. And the thing I love about Trent, is most of his songs do. They have more than one meaning almost. He makes you think about it. But I kind of disagree with the sexual predator because Trent makes it sound like he's attached to the piggy whoever it is. Which is why a love song works. But, not a love for a person. A love for the voices he seems to sing about. It could be a long the storyline, but piggy is on many cd's so I don't know.

Skinny Puppy – Worlock Lyrics 21 years ago
Curator, I think it's all written in Allusion. The whole point of the song is so that it can't be interperated, except by those fans. Anyways.. I like how the songs written.. It all fits together, it's not just a jumble of words.
For example:
Sloppy Mincing; Sloppy dicing to small pieces. Eyedropping biopsy; a biopsy is the removal of tissue, or in this case the eyes. So removal of the eyes, but then it goes on to say Cyclops overlooks; One eye. Optic; of or to do with eyes or vision. And so on, they keep piecing it all together.
And it all has to do with a murder, a quite.. Gruesome murder... Which makes me agree with NIN7688, it's most likely about Charles Manson.
Would be kind of nice if they were posted correctly though. And the few pieces that are missing were added in "(Now Is The Only Thing That's Real)" Is said quite a few times throughout. Unless that's just my verision.
Not quite sure where animus impius got the idea of censorship.. =\

Nirvana – Milk It Lyrics 21 years ago
Stuck in utero is very much right his songs rarely have a compiled meaning. But this song does have meaning in it if you go through it all. It's kind of like a puzzle.

First Verse:
I think he's saying he has so much pain that he could feed himself off of it. "We can share our endorphins" endorphins are a hormone that cause pain and affect the emotions. He's saying to someone that they can help eachother get rid of them.

Chorus: Doll Steak Test Meat
:( Sorry no meaning for this I've tried figuring it out but to me it means very little.
Rest of Chorus: He sees that suicide is a deffinate answer (though Kurt was never really suicidal especially because it was against his religions. No matter how contradictial he tended to be he was never suicidal.) and he's lost his "eyesight" of what could be ahead in life for him.
The right wing left wing broken wing part is what he saw it as. It's useless to him in this mood. Lack of iron/and or sleeping. Has to do with depression like Bite me said.

Running out of time... Lol.
Summarizing rest:
Virus: Yet again referring to the depression.
Obituary Birthday: Reincarnation
Ecto-plasma: To do with spirits.
So in other words he believes in reincarnation, which would fix his problems after suicide. Suicide would get him reincarnation, which would get rid of depression.

Nine Inch Nails – Piggy Lyrics 21 years ago
Uh.. Think I typed too long of a reply before. So I'll try to summarize what I said this time. I think that sean7711 is right. I agree with it because Trent loves to write about his dislike for God, and how God does nothing for us. Also I agree with eqassem lanimilbus. Trent's CD's all follow a storyline (even if it's sometimes hard to notice.) So perhaps the voices are God to him. Or the thing dragging and holding him away from God. (Even if he doesn't have faith and doesn't believe in God.)

Nine Inch Nails – Piggy Lyrics 21 years ago
In my opinion a lot of people have it right. I disagree with the cop idea since to me it just makes absolutely no sense (I have never seen Trent write about cops before.) But sean7711 has a GREAT point I mean, look at how many songs Trent writing about God, his lack of faith in God, and just how he believes if there truly is a God, he isn't all that he's made out to be.

Also eqassem lanimilbus has a great point. The whole The Downward Spiral cd is a story (same with Further Downward the Spiral) and, well, most of his CD's(some of the links are quite hard to notice.)

Maybe even Perhaps he sees the voices as God and the Devil themselves, and that is what he is is hearing. I don't know, that's just what I think.

So it's either a song about his hate for God, and the wish for more answers about him, or just a continuation of the story, and the voices in his head (or just a mix of each of them.)
