Moneen – Great Escape Lyrics

Missing lines:
Don't look forward,
cause I won't look back.
Also, the new album sucks, but this song is good. |

I think that "I'm here to tell you that you're playing with dolls and making explosion sounds, everyone heard." is one of my favorite lines of any song, ever. |

Chavez – Laugh Track Lyrics

Okay, I don't know what the line you're missing in the second stanza is. The one lines you're missing there is: "Might erase what the rented gods have wrought."
The other line sounds kinda like "We have worked it in to plans that you can never chase" but I'm not sure. |

Braid – The New Nathan Detroits Lyrics

Yup, I think this song is about busting your ass to be in a band because it's what you want to do, not what makes you money or what your parents want you to be doing. I don't know about the guys and dolls thing though, heh. |

When they played this in calgary, where I live, and he said the "from bangkok to calgary" line, everyone went insane for about 2 minutes and they had to stop playing the song and then start up again. Pretty sweet moment. |

Alexisonfire – Tonight, I'm Going to Wash the Hippy (Moneen cover) Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
Moneen shows off their instrumental prowess on several occasions on the new album. To claim that alexisonfire are much better musicians is really a matter of taste, there's no real evidence to support that. Dallas green is a better singer than Kenny is, but the production and songwriting on moneen's new album is quite good.
Also, if you're trying to claim that moneen lack enthusiasm, you have clearly never seen them play live. |

Rage Against the Machine – Guerrilla Radio Lyrics

Tom responding to hypocracy complaints: "When you live in a capitalistic society, the currency of the dissemination of information goes through capitalistic channels. Would Noam Chomsky object to his works being sold at Barnes & Noble? No, because that's where people buy their books. We're not interested in preaching to just the converted. It's great to play abandoned squats run by anarchists, but it's also great to be able to reach people with a revolutionary message, people from Granada Hills to Stuttgart. " |

My laptop crashed and so I lost all the information on it. I could maybe do the rest of "Ride the Fader" from memory and just listening to the album, but there'd be some holes in it. I might try to recover the data on the laptop hard drive, though. |

Alexisonfire – Tonight, I'm Going to Wash the Hippy (Moneen cover) Lyrics

This is, imo, the best cover on the moneen/alexisonfire split. Perhaps because it's not one of my favorite moneen songs, alexisonfire really made it significantly better. The passing of america is one of my favorite songs ever, and it would have been impossible for these guys to do it any better. |

The New Pornographers – Use It Lyrics

I always thought that "Cried wise on the price of fame" was actually "Cracked wise on the price of fame" as in, making wisecracks. Who knows though? All I know is this is my favorite song off of twin cinema. |

The New Pornographers – Letter from an Occupant Lyrics
| 19 years ago

I really like the "shoot what I want" line. Whenever i hear it, I think of shooting the moon in the card game hearts, which probably has no relevance, but i find it funny. Basically, He's saying that she can have whatever she wants as long as she does it herself, so he's not offering her anything. Getting away from the whole hearts thing, you generally order meat at a resteraunt, which, requires you to shoot an animal, and the moon is just the extrapolation of this? To be honest, this makes a lot more sense to me than having the line be "just as long as it's you that I want."
Thinking further on the chorus lyrics, and reading the tie in line that you have there makes me think that you're definately on the right track there, just that we really don't have enough information to figure that part of the song out. |

Mineral – Slower Lyrics

If I thought that this song was about drug addiction then I wouldn't be able to relate to it at all. I've never been through that, so I don't really need a song to talk about it. A few people have said this, but to me, this song is just about life in general. About not knowing the easy way, about trying to trade a lifetime of convenience for an honest day or two. I've felt like that a lot in my life, really. |

I'm pretty damn sure it's "Pretention and Fame's a career." That makes the most sense, really.
"Face right down to the practice room" sounds right, and if malkmus mentioned it in an interview, that's probably right. I think actually, that everything seasonedass said is the way I've always thought the song went. |

At the Drive-In – One Armed Scissor Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
I think that the theory that this song is about the band's troubles on the road and their eventual breakup is more credible than the vietnam theory. I don't know many people who would choose to tackle this type of topic with this type of lyrics. People tend to write songs about things that affect them directly. Almost, the more cryptic the lyrics seem, the more autobiographical they are. If people are writing songs about events or stories, they tend to use much clearer language.
I guess the vietnam thing holds some water, but I have no idea why ATDI would write a song about the vietnam war, or if they were using the war as a metaphor for something, force you first to decipher what exactly the metaphor is and then force you to decipher what it applies to. |

Archers of Loaf – Might Lyrics

"For some reason I don't think I'm gonna make it / For some reason I don't think about it anymore." Now that, my friends, is some ofthe best lyric writing i have heard in a while.
Im my opinion, this song is about trying so hard and perhaps finally giving up.
By the way, i haven't been able to either find or decipher the two lines that are missing there. If anyone does, I would be interested. |

Heh, I just saw them in Edmonton and Toronto and they opened with this song both times. Who cares if they always do something as long as they do it well? It's one of my favorite HWM songs and I almost expect them to play it first... I'd be let down if they didn't. |

American Football – The Summer Ends Lyrics

Capn Jazz, American Football, and Owen are three of my favorite bands of all time, but i could just never get into Joan of Arc - They just seemed a little too pretentious and a little too strange. This song means a lot to me though, after moving to ontario at the end of last summer. Me and my girlfriend at the time both knew I was leaving and so things had been kinda on the rocks. I put this as the last song on a mix cd i made her before i left. Let's hope she still listens to it. |

Also, I thought that Analphabetapolothology was fairly easy to find... it has pretty much all of Capn' Jazz's recorded material on it. I got it at my local indie record store (perhaps if you live in a small town there might not be one.) If you want, I could probably rip the CD and send you some mp3s. If you're interested, my email is in my profile. |

"She shoplifts some Christmas gifts, and a bracelet for herself, and considers phoning home. Has some quarters in her hand. But she sits down on the sidewalk and bites her bottom lip, and spends the afternoon willing traffic-lights to change."
The end part is phenominal. That feeling of being lost and needing guidance, and almost admitting that she needs help... and in the end, she just sits back and does what she wants to. |

That song is "Where is my mind" by the pixies. To my knowledge Sparta have never covered it and the file you have is probably mislabeled. I know Nada Surf do an excellent cover. |
