| the atmostphere of what life is. winning is never guaranteed, the only thing that is constant is loss. every one loses, day by day. weather through taxes, relationships, freedom of thought, you name it, youve lost something today. from the atmostphere of the song i assume trent is meaning that you have to become comfortable with the constant loss... the way the music drifts in an indiffferent way. life is indifferent, so it is what you make of it that determines how much you lose. same as the song, its what you make of it. you have to be constantly aware, to make shure you do not lose too much. otherwise, something mild and indifferent (the mood of the song maybe?) will take it from you. slightly uplifting in places, so possibly implementing trents thoughts on continuation of life no matter what happens (ie, in the song "the way out is through" .... all ive undergone, i will keep on....) so, a bleak outlook on reality and what one must do to stay with it. well, thats just me. | |

oh.... my...... FUCKING.... god. why am i posting? something like 3 million album sales and however many bizillion weeks at number one a certain intregrity to the music and a tendancy to write from the heart (from the early albums at least) earns a bit of respect from me. i own all the albums, but, korn did sell out with the puma and adidas contract, mtv and every other thing. their music is different, which is all anyone really needs. and has been changing, which is unavoidable. arguements solve nothing, niether does flaying the skin off decomposing child corpses, but either of those seems to create enjoyment for some. avoidance seems to be the best policy. if someone feels the need to put up a "speak english" post, grab a dictionary first. hate gains you nothing. are you really happy with what you are doing or what you are or are going to become? and whos business is it of anyone elses what we do that only affects ourselves? try evolving for 3 years, and think about the past. happy? i hope so. cos at the end of the day if you destroy all that is around you then thats your choice, thats your privilige. if it is not importnat to you to become someone worth caring about, then, well, good luck to you. i hope the coffin hugs you as much as you want it to. no, i am not stoned. what makes it so hard to have a little consideration for other people? do you feel so neglected in your life that the only way you can feel like your existence has a purpose is by destroying others? what justification do you have and by whos authority makes you better than anyone else? the uneducated believe that they know everything, while the wise realise they know nothing. what life do we lead if we cannot attempt to shed a little joy in the world? if the world is going to hell, and you want the world to degrade into the worst form of existence possible, then why dont you kill yourself? or do you somehow think that by staying and making everyone elses life reprehensible you are somehow making the world a better place? surely that is in a complete inverse with your ideals? by making trying to make the world a worse place your making it a better place? what part of your mind makes that logical noone knows. but i feel sorry for you. you need all the help you can get. korn are a band that produces a sound which comes under the dictionary definition of music, so unless you state otherwise, you have created your own language which is incomprehensible to everyone else here. so maybe it is our problem by attempting to understand your feeble thought processes. korn are a form of music, and always will be. |

hey y'all, ohk, MK punk, i agree with you there, the opinion of the guy who wrote it always dictates what the song means (to the band at least), shure it can mean different things to other people, as you say, such is art.... but chinos starting phraze... "you COULD take it in the literal sense" and when someone says that, you know its only half the story. so there has to be another meaning in there somewhere, so im offering one. but heres another theory that deathosaurus was touching on.... instead, it is the singers (well chinos, but it could be geared to be from the listeners perspective. not all musicians gear shit solely from their view) view of someone he feels a bizarre form of love for. he has known her for a long time so he can whitness her changes developing as she grows up "i watched you change, into a fly"... now as someone else put up here chino might have been on coke and seen a fly as a beautiful thing, so as she has grown up she has developed into something heavenly incredibly gorgeously perfect... insert: these last 2 lines could also be a very bitter plug at human beings in general... we come from maggots laid in the rotting corpses of other animals or shit, and develop into irritating pointless fucked bugs whos very existence seems to have no purpose than making life inconvenient for other more diserving species... (ie flies) N e ways.... on with it... in a part of their knowing of each other, circumstances force them to drift apart. the other person (ie, from the listeners/chinos point of view, the person this song is describing or talking about) is stronger, cleaner and purer.. and goes on to a great life with a purposeful wonderful life, "i looked away, you were on fire" with a great future... while the other person (chino/the listener) is not so strong and whos life path takes a sort of life which isnt as good. how bad is determined by your own imagination, but yeah, and the listener/chino realises that they are having a great life... then the chorous just reiterates what ive said above. hes seen her change over time, she is getting better as a human... in a way. now the wings-words-words change in the chorous's... wings are used to support a body help it get where its going... possibly parents? this person seems like she had grown up without the aid of anything, yet stayed remarkably pure... (possibly a plug at parents who just drag you down)... she didnt need parents to get where shes going... and the next verse... he regains contact with her, they become really close again, he defiles her (either enters a physical relationship with her or uses her or treats her unjustly, or allows/encourages her to try things such a pure person shouldnt) yet feels nothing, in fact, enjoys what he does. and the chorous: the chorous, the ways he defiles her, could be sex, lots of drugs, hardout criminal shit, any or something like that, activities which do not increase her as a person, yet make her feel alive. you know, the feeling when you set shit on fire or getting stoned or stealing shit or whatever, it makes you feel so alive, the adrenaline rush, nothing else matters except the feeling. but too much of that sort of lifestyle will turn you into a degenerate. which is what he has done/is doing to her. the last verse is his regret... the cross usually represents salvation/penance/retribution whatever i dont know for sure, but he looks and tries to see if he can fix his life, get back on track (ie, usually becoming religious is purifying the soul or whatever, hence the cross reference) but realises hes too far gone. he regrets what he has done to what used to be a beautiful person, and as an act of last hope or love for her sake, wishes on her the strength to sever all ties with him, so she can get her life back on track. so its about self pleasure and self hatred for what has been done to others. well, thats one... heres ANOTHER possible meaning... 2 close friends, lets say since its chino, 2 guy m8s, like real close m8s, and one goes to religion... "I watched you change, into a fly" i was with you when we were growing up OR i watched you fall into religion, there wasnt anything i could do... (look at my thoughts on what being a fly could mean, above, could be chinos opinion on religion. (ie religion is bullshit and fucks people up) if chino has a religion, correct me someone, cos i dont know enough about chino.) "i looked away, you were on fire" in a bad time for you, i wasnt there for you OR the entry into religion is burning the you i knew alive... if i dont do something it will destroy you. the chorous.... blah de blah i see you change into this religion... and it makes you feel alive, but its sarcasm. the person might feel alive, but everyone else seems like they are dead to the person, the person has turned to someone better, namely god. "i took you home, put you on the glass, pulled off your wings, and i laughed" I tried to get you back. as a friend, i tried to make back the contact and close friendship we once had. i didnt treat this religion game seriously enough, i stripped your opinions (pulled off your wings) and laughed at the obvious rediculousness of what youd become. what he realises is that religion in its mind washing strength has destroyed the friendship, and he didnt tread carefully enough, and the friend is gone for good, which is what the next verse is about... "i look at the cross, i look away... give you the GUN...( believe the other guy about chino changing the lyrics. there aint NO WAY thats lungs) blow me away" he honestly openmindedly looked at the religion that his friend went into, to see if it has anything for him or rings true for him. it doesnt. all it has done has given the other person the metaphorical gun to blow the connection with the other person away. and such is the destruction of friendships... and thats me. |

| Twist has been, as many commenters have stated before, denounced as a song without words. Sure you can read anything into it you want, maybe thats part of the songs appeal, or maybe even its intent. But... check out the live video of this from woodstock99 and live at Big Day Out, both videos of which are easily obtainable through kazaa or some such sharewear programme. if you listen, the album version, and these 2 live versions differ completely. however it does sound like on occasion john throws in "suck my dick" in a really out of it way. a popular phraze across many korn songs.
