Iron Maiden – The Trooper Lyrics 21 years ago
It's British vs. Russians. As can be seen with the Union Jack flying in the picture in the Best of the Beast book. :D
Kick arse song too.

Guns N' Roses – One In A Million Lyrics 21 years ago
If you read Axl's explanation on the cover of GN'R Lies, he explains that the song is an over generalisation and gives all the reasons why he wrote it. It's very true to some extent: I've had Indian shop owners giving me the evil eye in their shops like I don't belong there when he doesn't even speak proper English. I haven't been hassled by the cops, but my bro and his mates were pulled up once by some punk cops who tried to hold just about anything they could against them. And I've never had a dark guy try and sell me stolen goods... but I've had a dark guy in Nike shoes and jacket with a Sony CD player ask me for money for the train saying he's broke. I can only assume those items were stolen. I don't have anything against the groups mentioned in this song, but yeah... I guess I see where Axl's coming from to some extent. Where I live, I can walk through the city streets and a black guy will call me a "white c***", but when I retaliate with "f***head", I'm a racist all of a sudden and I have him and 20 of his mates beating the crap out of me.
I feel sorry for Axl because he felt he needed to write that song.

Guns N' Roses – Welcome To The Jungle Lyrics 21 years ago
LOL. It's funny, Axl started off as a choir boy. And look what he became?

If you've seen the film clip, you'll understand that the song is about the big city and what it does to you. At the beginning of the film clip, Axl's hair is strait and he's wearing pretty standard close and a cap. At the end, he's got the Rock N' Roll hairstyle and clothes, reflecting what the city has done to him in such short time.

Guns N' Roses – Sweet Child O' Mine Lyrics 21 years ago
From what I understand this song was written about Erin Everly who was Axl's girlfriend at the time. It wasn't actually going to make it onto Appetite for Destruction at first because they felt it was incomplete. Rumour has it that Slash played that opening solo whilst kidding around but the rest of the band loved it so they used it and the song got on. That's probably fan-made BS though.

Axl and Erin were on and off for atleast 8 years from what I know. This is reflected in alot of GN'R songs. I'm not certain... but I think You Could Be Mine, November Rain, Back Off Bitch, Don't Cry, 14 Years... practically all GN'R's love songs... were about Erin. It shows how they broke up... got back together... broke up... got back together... and so on and so forth... over the years.

I kind relate to this song: I have a friend who I truly adore whose description fits the description Axl makes in this song. I would sing it to her if I could sing. But I'll learn to play it on guitar. :D

Guns N' Roses – Don't Cry Lyrics 21 years ago
I would like to know who wrote the majority of the lyrics. Obviously it's about a guy dieing and leaving his girlfriend behind... but I don't know why they wrote it. Someone said that Axl wrote after he beat his girlfriend up... if this is so, then maybe he wrote it to signify that he wishes he was dead because of what he did. That would explain the whole death theme of the film clip.

Guns N' Roses – Civil War Lyrics 21 years ago
Like many people have said, I believe it's a metaphor. I think Axl meant that the US uses war to improve their economy, making the rich richer and sending the poor to their death. By saying it's a "Civil War", not only is he referring to the American Civil War, but he is saying that the US tries to justify it's military actions and makes people believe that these actions are more 'civil' than the wars of the past. I know Axl was a mysogynistic pig most the time... but he's got some true meaning in some of his lyrics.

Oh yeah... and does anyone else realise that AXL ROSE is an anagram for ORAL SEX? His real name was William something...

X Japan – Endless Rain Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is absolutely brilliant. At the moment I can relate to it but I'm not going to go into that.

I'm just wondering if Axl Rose from Guns N' Roses had heard this song when he wrote November Rain? I think November Rain was first recorded in 1991. When was Endless Rain recorded? I know it was pre-'94.

Any ideas?
