amazing, i've always been a huge paul simon fan since i was a kid, i grew up listening to him from my mom, and i always liked this song, then i had a death of a good friend recently and this song along with the lyrics from the other bookends song really hit me, "can you imagine us years from today, sharing a park bench quietly", and he was my best friend and i could imagine that, then when this part of the song starts its like the feeling of the harsh reality that its not going to happen now, because memories are all that i have of them now. very moving song for me |

i have always been a big crow fan, i always loved this song, then my best friend passed away last year, and this song just reminds me the situation, cause i always used to think "what if things were different?" and the line" dont talk of worlds that never were, the end is all thats ever true" really got me. and the line"waiting for my only friend, wating for the world to end" wow, its a moving song, and i will always love it |

this song has a strong meaning to me, its about someone dying as far as i can tell, and its an unexpected death, not the death of an old or sick person. my best friend died some time ago and me and my other friends were there with him, and when i heard this song the first time it hit me like a wall, because it brought back the feeling of helplessness i felt watching him go, where all you can do is think of old times and ask that they not go away. any song that makes you feel , i mean really FEEL an emotion is amazing, to me this is one of those songs. |

To me this song is about God, no question. Laynes life was hard, he went through alot with is family as a child and then again as an adult with drugs and such, his dad left him when he was a kid, then came back when he was famous because he had money and drugs. He was never very happy, and it seems hes asking god if its a test, and if god likes the idea of him being in pain all the time, and hes pissd about it. and he doesnt want god to live through him, he wants nothing to do with it, and he says the idea of god as loving and caring and always there is un-true. because he says ppl are just itching for a little bit of sanity in their lives and god doesnt even care enough to give them that |
