interesting title for the song. very fitting though. i really like this song and i think it does say a lot about the problems with today's work driven society. nobody ever gets a chance to really relax and create a life for themselves. its funny because i can really hear people saying those quotes ("other than that everything else if fine") in everyday life.
unfortunately, the song offers no solution to these problems, but it still rocks! |

I don't really like when songs have a "religious" meaning and stuff, and some of Waking Ashland's lyrics are pretty high schoolish (Red Car, Counting the Stars) in my opinion. i'm assuming everybody is aware of the reference to this song in taking back sundays "follow the format" where he sings (backing the theory that it is about the break away from TBS:

i like this song overall, you can tell its the new style. first thing i noticed was the "what's another word for..." lyrics. "another word for desperate" by straylight is such a badass song.
i think a lot of people don't like how tbs has incorporated lyrics from brand new and now straylight run into their songs, but personally i think its so cool. just like yelling back and forth at each other, it creates a storyline and more emotion into the song. i always love explaining to my friends who just become new TBS listeners all the little "quirks" about their songs. |

i'm really messed up right now so don't think i'm crazy, but i was just thinking about it, and was wondering that it could be about a young guy (20?) who has a newborn baby with his girlfriend, and she decided to have the baby, and he is torn up about it. part of him wants to run and get away ("i need a car,"), but the other part knows that he'll grow to love the baby and experience things with him/her ("I wanna see it when you find out what comets, stars and moons are all about")... and so on like that. Oh, and "take the world apart and figure out how it works" could be a reference to giving birth and how miraculous it is or something.
LOL, I dunno, I doubt this is what the writer was thinking about, but its a cool story to think about anyways I guess? Haha |

this actually just hit home while reading the previous posts...
i recently was in trouble with the law for marijuana charges. and i swear the way they act, its like i killed somebody. and i know that this song probably isn't about that but what he is saying really makes sense as to what i was feeling at the time. my parents and all my friends parents and all that.. they all turned against me and acted as if i was such a bad person, as if their son/daughter never smoked. you feel like you have "no1 to trust" and "everythings falling apart". when he says "you can't change the letters when the ink dries" its like i can't change what i've already done no matter how bad i wish i could. |

so it def is about suicide..
the first verse talks about commiting suicide
the second is his 'salvation' and why he decides not to
and i think the baby is incorporated into the song because he realizes that his reason for not commiting suicide that day was so he could be there for the baby.

this is my fav. song in the whole entire world. its been like that for about 2 years now. i never will get tired of it! the way i see it, it is so magnificently written, that it can relate to anything that any1 is going through.. relationships, depression, parents divorce, drugs, etc.... i personally think its about depression.....
every attempt to is filled with holes (every time he tries to think positively, something (holes) are in his way)

just a thought... consider the "i saw my baby boy, digging his own hole.... when he lied about intentions i should have done something" = somebody getting deeper and deeper into something.. I think this song is about a girl he is with and that he loves some things about her so much, but he hates some things about her at the same time, and he can't decide which over-rules about her, the good or the bad.
