I think this song is about youth...when he says "living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see, its getting hard to be someone but it all works out, it doesn't matter much to me"...I think hes talking about fitting in and the troubles that teens encounter throughout adolescence...and strawberry fields is a place to get away by themselves, and that can be interpreted with "nothing is real; nothing to get hungabout, strawberry fields forever!"...maybe he's talking about how he can just be himself there until he really finds himself as a person.
That's what I think anyway. Whatever the meaning of this song is, I think we can come to the consensus that it is a great song no matter what it really means. |

well, I am not exactly sure if its about someone dying, or just about someone who is missing another person. Personally, I can relate to this song better as just missing someone...rather than death. Especially when he says "like indecision to call you, and hear your voice of treason"...I think he feels that she betrayed him, and although he's upset, he wants to talk to her, and still misses her...I think if this were about death he wouldn't consider it "treason" if he really loved her, one cannot help death... |

It really doesn't matter who this song is about..whether its tom's brother killing himself or travis', honestly I dont think it's about anyone killing themselves, I think it's about someone overcoming troubles in their life, and at first he's listening to his friends and not himself when he's talking about surviving the tour at the beginning of the song, and then he proceeds to say "The tour is over, I survived "...and I think he's talking about himself overcoming obstacles, by himself, and realizing that its him who matters, and he made it through everything by listening to only him and not others...just my opinion anyways.. |

He wrote it about the world in general, and honestly, I do agree that it is a bit "cynical" but I think that is the essence and beauty of the song. geez, what does this song mean to me? what a question..i dont even know where to start. pretty much, i watched the fireworks and listened to this song to my boyfriend at the time...then when we broke up this song was played a lot. its a beautiful song...its very sad though..because when she says "the one thing that i tried to hold on to" you can tell that she wanted to make it work, and wanted to hold on to every moment forever but it just wouldnt work out that way. sometimes thats the way life works out anyways, which is why many people can relate to a song like this |
