its about the glorification of colonialism in the education system, and probably in general. The line "i'm the bitter beneficiaery" suggests this is coming from a cynical white person's perspective of what they are being taught because they know they ultimately benefited from such horrible historical epidemics yet feel angry and maybe ashamed because of that. I wish i could find more songs with this take about wanting to expose and reject ideas of heroicism concerning white heritage and supremecy, its a good message. |

yea, i thought the video was so unfitting and overdone. just seemed like some kind of artsy european "weird for the sake of being weird" cliche. its funny, you can tell all the guys from the band are trying so hard not to laugh through out the video. good song though, deserved a better visual interpretation. |

stpwickd has a completely introspective perspective on these words and i am so glad to see such a fulfilling and deep take on lyrics that appear so scattered. I think this innterpretation could be applied tothe Core booklet insert that downs the very essence of americanism and the need or want to control and buy your life into the American Dream scenario of a white house inthe suburbs with a pickets fence, a 3 car garage with a mini van, sUV, and mustange for kick as well as 3 kids, a dog,cat, intersts inthe sotck market, and to top it all of, a spic and spam astro turf laced with pesticides, fertilizers , and anything else that is cheap,easy, and yet equally destructive to produce |

i first heard this song on a local easy listening radio station around christmas time a few years back. during christmas time, the yjust play christmas songs and when i heard it, i thought it was a woman singing.i didnt really think much of it at the time, but it still got stuck in the back of my head for a while.then i heard the jimmy eat world version, which was col. then like a year later i heard it again and totally dug it. i like the christmas sounding vibe the keyboards give the song. i think thats what really sticks with me , not so much the lyrics, but the melody. good song |

anybody who has had a bad trip before can identify with the words in this song. "take a breath and make it big"..when your trippin too hard, you try to calm yourself down and breath slowly."all dressed up on a wedding day, keep on trippin anyway"..no matter what palce or scenario you are in at the time, if you start trippin hard, it WILL NOT STOP, no matter how positive of an environment you are in." let go its harder holding on, one mre trip and ill be gone. holy shit, so true. in an intense trip, if you dont go with the natural emotions you feel, things will turn bad. holding on to oyur sober mind only fucks your head up even worse. go with the flow. And after having an intensely bad trip, you want nothing to do withthe stuff anymore. you know that takinganother trip will make you lose your fucking mind and destroy your soul. I am not myself and i am not dead. peopel who have intense trips often think they are dying. i guess maybe hes trying to tell himself hes not dying, and trying to rid any negative media thinking that could affect him for the worst, like "im not for sale" Now im kinda gettin weird and deep, but "hold me closer, let me go" kinda refers to that confusing feeling of need sonemone to hold on to during a bad trip, buta the same time, even actractive women can freak you out and intially you just need to be alone cause you are way to gone to be involved in intimate situations. And finally, the paper heart thing refers to your heart beating like a million miles per minute during a trip, which is very dangerous and can casue an instant heat attack. hes saying dont let my heart stop or explode, i need to stay alive and get thru this horrible psychoactive experience |

i think its really cool how they made a comeback with this song, even after their third album didnt do so well and they waited 3 yrs before making another. success like this is very rare for bands who disapear like they did, especially for them since they were always overshadowed by their grunge peers, but i think this 2nd time around gave them a chance to shine and show that htey were not a copy cat band, but orginal and dynamic. |

I guess one could enjoy it in an altered state of mind, becuase ive enjoyed songs in that sort of state that i would have thought to suck normally. and i can kinda relate to people thinkin it degrades the natural purity of women thta chino has mentioned before, but its artistic freedom and those are not actually his words, so whatever.
