this has got to be one of my all time favorite songs....just the whole thing, the lyrics are so insightful and true, the musical part of it is amazing...just the whole thing makes me feel all tingly. i love the whole part "and you run and you run to catch up with the sun..." to "shorter of breath and one day closer to death" those lines are just some of my favorites ever out of any song. sipayi makes a good point by saying that just like us, the sun is getting older, but i mean it does age waaaay slower than us humans, so every day it's relatively the same, whereas we in a matter of days can change. i also love that part becasue it represents someone chasing after the sun, trying to get their time back, but it's too late, and the sun rises again and they're just older, despite all of their efforts to cheat time and catch up with the sun. gosh this song is awesome..... |

jack johnson is brilliant...this song among many many others....i just cant even explain, i have never related so well to any other artists music so much, just all of his views on politics and the media and environment and everything relates to me. plus his voice is just so great and kind of puts me a peace, it's so mellow and amazing... |

yeah i agree with most everyone that it is about a girl or girls on the road with the band and all that, obviously from the article in rolling stone the songwriter said that himself. i just really dont agree with what toast said...im not really sure where you would get that it was about a car crash. who knows maybe im closeminded or something but rereading the lyrics right now i just dont see it...hmm anyways this is an amazing song. i never really got into it until after seeing almost famous, which is my favorite movie, but thay scene on the bus, man that's great! |

ok this is probably totally wrong, espcially since the whole reason with his grandfather has been clarified, but the first time i heard this song the impression that i got was that it was about the haulocost ( i dont think i spelled that right...) like how they were searching for all of the jewish people, and they were hiding from the german soldiers. also how they were "never betrayed by the already found and taken away" maybe that explains about how those who were already captured wouldn't reveal where the rest of their families were hidden ...i dont know, i could be waaay off on this, but it does fit in with the war theme. yeah well whatever this song is about, it is awesome just the same! |

This is one of my favorite songs ever! It's so beautiful, the lyrics and the way Dave sings it with so much passion! In both the original and the acoustic, it jsut kicks ass! I'm not even really that big of a Foo Fighters fan, but this song means so much to me, when I heard it when I was in like 4th grade and had no idea what the lyrics meant, I still loved it. Now that I'm older I can relate to it more. I'm still not sure what all of the lyrics mean, but I think that with most of the great songs in this world, they're so personal to the artist, that there are words in the song can only be understood by the artist. They aren't meant to be understood by the listeners, but I think that makes a song better, when there's a kind of mystery about it. I just love the line "And I wonder If everything could ever feel this real forever." It just reminds me of being in love and not ever wanting to let go of the amazing feeling that it gives you and wondering how long that feeling will last. This song means more to me than I can even put into words, but I've done my best to do so. |

this is such a great song...the lyrics and the guitar both rock. i love how it starts out kinda slow and calm then just gets faster and more in your face. led zeppelin is such a kick ass band and this song really highlights that. i love the lyrics cuz i can relate to them. its about wondering whats out there in the world, and living your life and experiencing troubles and triumphs along the way...or at least that's how i see it... |

I think that Cory 420 was high or something when he wrote that...I hope that was a joke! But yea anywayz GNR kicks ass and I love how they can have such a range in their writing abilities to where they can write about sex and drugs and then move on to a song like this, that is just really beautiful and touching. |

This song is definitely one of my all time favorites! My favorite part is the end when he says, "where do we go now?" it's almost like there's two parts to the song, the first part where he's all happy and talking about how amazing this girl is, but then at the end, where he's kind of confused about where the relationship is going. I also love love love the guitar in this song. it kicks major ass as well as the lyrics! |

this is such an amazing song. i am a dancer and the first time i heard this song was watching it performed at a dance competition. it literally brought me to tears listening to the words as they intertwined with the dancing. everything about this song is true. i live in a place that used to be a small farming town that is now overpopulated and pretty much busting at the seams. there's terrible traffic, malls and shopping centers everywhere, and new housing developments going up in the place where there used to be forests. the line " the old farm road's a four-lane that leads to the mall" really hits home because where i come from, that statement is completely true. |
