Modest Mouse – Steam Engenius Lyrics

i think it sounds like "far away from the milky teat" - makes a little more sense to compare being born a robot to being a milk-fed human being. |

i'm pretty sure it's "post-natal" not "post-needle". and possibly "turn the clamps on our thumbs". |

Mystery Jets – Little Bag Of Hair Lyrics

nope sorry, it is 'in a jet'. it's what's written in the inlay of the album and.. yeah, it's just what is said. besides, 'in a death' doesn't make any sense. |

The Books – It Never Changes to Stop Lyrics

when this was played live, nick said the sample was of an anonymous american disciplinarian who they thought "sounded like an asteroid headed straight towards the earth". i can sort of see it too - he terrifies me, almost. how his voice kind of breaks as if he's unaware of his power or he can't control it. |

the lyrics are all there.
it IS 'hooked up'. it's also 'put masseuse right on the guestlist, saw my pause boy, became weightless'. |

LCD Soundsystem – Losing My Edge Lyrics
|
nailed it. the transparent notion of 'cool' and this new army of ultra-hipsters. this is pretty much the most perfect song about it all.. how it starts out so thin and weak and then he gets more frustrated, more angry and starts reeling off these insults and lists of records until it all turns into this unintelligible mess. perfect perfect.
i especially love how accusing he sounds on the "I HEAR, that YOU and YOUR BAND..." lines. |

i'm not sure about 'the stranger dance' but i do know that St Vitus' Dance is a term from germany in the middle ages given to 'mania for continuous dancing'.
britt's just staying in. dancing continuously. waita go. |

i've heard this one live and oh my, it's wonderful. it's a shame it's not going to be on the new album but hopefully it'll turn up as a b-side or something. |

Wilco – I'm A Wheel Lyrics

pretty bad lyrics by jeff tweedy's standards but it's still one of the best songs from 'a ghost is born'. rockin. |

Cake – End of the Movie Lyrics
|
i love this. so succinct and perfect.
i think it's just a comment upon how the little important things in life will never change and they are what keep us alive. he's listing all these terrible things that could happen but in the end you remain the same through your little quirks (i.e. not leaving before the movie ends). |

Travis Morrison – Angry Angel Lyrics

i've heard another studio version of this song that i'm assuming was recorded by the plan before they disbanded. it's more upbeat and i think i prefer that version to this.. the lyrics remain excellent though. |

Pedro the Lion – Almost There Lyrics
|
nope, i feel like that too. david bazan is an incredible songwriter and has created some of the most affecting pieces of music i've ever heard. but my stance as an agnostic has prompted to some people to challenge me as to whether i can 'really' enjoy it.
i've found ignoring those people works a charm. bickering over religion is pointless. |

The Decemberists – Billy Liar Lyrics

such an unashamedly sweet song. i believe billy liar is a literary work by keith waterhouse but being unfamiliar with it i can't say how true a representation of it this is.. but its still wonderful.

The Long Winters – Shapes Lyrics

best misheard lyric ever. awesome.
hearing john roderick trying to explain this song is possibly the funniest thing ever. if you haven't already go to www.kexp.org and listen to some of their old sessions.
basically: say you were carpenter. and you wind up to hit a nail.. you would be throwing a CARPENTERS shape. and they are counting on you.. to do more than that. if you see what i mean. because i dont. great song either way. |

The Unicorns – I Was Born (A Unicorn) Lyrics

heh this song is amazing. shame you missed out the little back and forth argument thing though.. 'i write the songs!' 'I write the songs!' 'you say im doin it wrong!' 'you ARE doin it wrong!' |

The Postal Service – Nothing Better Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
this song deserves it's number one spot on the most requrested lyrics.. perfect example of what a great lyricist ben gibbard is.
while unrequited love is a bit of an emo mainstay, (not suggesting this is emo.. let's not get into that whole argument) i reckon this is a fresh and interesting take on it - the back and forth vocals being especially effective. whilst the first voice comes up with all these elaborate metaphors for the faults in their relationship, the female voice seems cold and clinical which is perfectly reflected in my favourite lines - "ive made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear, i've prepared a lecture on why i have to leave".
such a great song! |

Ben Folds – Fired Lyrics

this song is perfect to practise your air piano to. the lyrics are alright but.. the music is just the best.
when im a boss of some company, im going to learn the piano, walk into a room and play the chorus for everyone on a tiny piano like in charlie brown. its the american dream. |

OK Go – Get Over It Lyrics

fantastic song, makes me smile and dance everytime. really fitting lyrics too.
i have no idea whether this is supposed to mean anything at all or whether it is just a song to sound good when played loud.. but they've acheived that anyhow. so who cares. |

The Dismemberment Plan – Gyroscope Lyrics

this song is simply awesome.. the chorus makes me grin really wide with this stunned amazement.. excellent.
as to what the songs all about.. possibly a warning? the spinning makes me think that it may be telling people that going out and having fun and freaking out to try and forget stuff is all very good but.. you cant carry on like it forever.. some day you have to slow down and sort your shit out. |
