This is the best song Marilyn Manson does in my opinon. I mean sure its not an original but he really made this song that much better than the original. He took the orignal hook, which already was kinda eerie, and built the rest of the song around that mood. I give him credit for changing the song without ruining it. |

this song is amazing, very powerful without being overly sappy. I didnt picture the singer with mohawk when I first heard the song but whatever. Anyways i think the song is about the relationship between a teenager and there family, and how they know they love them but they can't stand to listen to them or interact with them. |

The first line is fact, Milhaven Maximum security penitentary is about 100 yards away from me., in Millhaven, Ontario. There are probably about 400 people who live in millhaven, and 2,000 who live in Bath where I live, which is right beside it. Anyways, it is one of the worst prisons in Canada, and there was a famous young inmate there who was on his way out of prison when a riot broke out and a guard was killed, somehow he got laid with the murder charged and spent the next 30 years or so locked up for something he didn't do. I can't remember the name off hand of the guy but he eventually got out. Anyway the hip are from nearby Kingston so there wrote about this story. Thats what the song is about. |

man I love this song...especially the chorus, its really catchy. I'm not a big ska fan at all, but less than jake is a worthy exception. Every song i've ever heard of LTJ has been awesome. He's got a good point about people who label bands as "selling out" just because there becoming more regonized, but is that not the point of joining a band, to play music and make money doing it? |

Alkaline trio didn't sell out...there is a difference between selling out and being successful. So just because there gaining popularity means they're sell-outs, I don't think so.
If you were in a band and It started becoming famous could we call you sellouts? I'm getting sick of hearing about groups selling out. Just because your jealous that your not famous you look down on bands who put a lot of hard work into a job which is very competitive and hard to earn enough money to buy McDonalds. Do you know how hard it is to be in a band? Its insanely hard so don't knock something without knowing what they're going through.
As for the song I really really like it. Its reminds me of my ex girlfriend but you don't wanna hear that I know. Good solid song. |

wow. I just read all those 128 comments above and i think many of you have good points. I too am 16 and I dont know any other 16 years old who havent heard this song. But besides that this is without a doubt the greatest rock song of all time. It is the song by which every song writter tries to reach. I personally believe its about people trying to achieve happiness by material purchases but in the end happiness cannot be bought, it is earned and worked for. The reason they did not release the song was because it goes against the very message of the song. I also believe that Robert was probably high on marjiuana because it stimulates your creative mind. I've also heard this song was written as a "filler" for the album, I dont know if this is true but it would be quite amazing if that was the case.
In the end I really do not want to know the meaning of the song. I like it better when it remains mysterious. |
