Dashboard Confessional – Vindicated Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is one of those songs that really has a lot of open-ended lines to it (probably why so many people like it).

I go with the simpler meaning someone suggested before: it really just is about being vindicated; finding that at the end you were right all along no matter what you or anyone else thought.

You really can see that in the Spiderman movie (it gave me chills to hear the chorus kick in during the credits). Peter Parker is "selfish" and "wrong" because he is making choices that don't make much sense to others: never taking the best care of himself, his life, or his friends because he is saving others as Spiderman and he ADMITS that those choices may be selfish and may seem wrong; but he's also saying "I'm right, I swear I'm right" because he can justify his choices to himself. Eventually though he starts to think that maybe everyone else is right.

His vindication comes as MJ realizes why he makes the choices he does and that is all he cares about because he loves her. So, in the end, he is proven right even though he and everyone else was doubting. That he "knew it all along" just means that underneath his own doubt he knew that he was in the right even if no one else did.

The song (to me, anyway) is about going your own way, doing your own thing, and making choices no one else understands. Eventually everyone's criticism's start to dig into you and you start doubting yourself. In the end with someone else's love and eventual understanding you find yourself "vindicated" and proven right the entire time even if you were flawed along the way.

Green Day – Jesus of Suburbia Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is positively amazing. I love how well they were able to progress the story in this track not just with the lyrics but with the music to.

But you'll notice that as this song progresses, "Jesus of Suburbia" (the character) becomes increasingly fed up with everything around him until he finally wants to leave in the last part. This is just awesome.

Billy Joel – A Matter Of Trust Lyrics 20 years ago
Billy is talking about the different kind of loves he's seen in here. There are the ones with the fiery beginnings that burn out and such. But he's telling this woman that those aren't him and her, he's saying for them they just can't seem to trust eachother because they've both been hurt before. Especially the girl.

Hanson – Crazy Beautiful Lyrics 20 years ago
About a guy in love who is wondering if this girl wants him at all. He wants to know if he should stay, go, or do whatever. The only thing he does know is that he'd do anything she'd ask cause shes crazy/beautiful.

This song is so incredible to listen to when you're in a bad mood. Bruce really captured what he was feeling with this one. Because he is right, even if you hate where you are you have to live it everyday.

Elton John – Original Sin Lyrics 21 years ago
I think that the secret to understanding the imagery in this song is the first line: "Oh its carnival night." I'm thinking that it is some sort of celebration that a guy is attending.

"Tell me how, you know now, the ways and means of getting in
Underneath my skin,
Oh you were always my original sin
And tell me why, I shudder inside, every time we begin
This dangerous game
Oh you were always my original sin "

Now the guy in this song is talking about a person who he has wanted for a long, long time (Original Sin). Now no matter what, this girl always gets back into his thoughts somehow. However for some reason he can't get her. Perhaps the best clue is that something is wrong with them being together (all the stuff about sinful pleasure.) Or maybe he's just shy, only Bernie Taupin knows.

"Up in the balcony
All the Romeo's are bleeding for your hand
Blowing theater kisses
Reciting lines they don't understand"

Thats one of my favorite verses in all of rock and roll. To me that verse means that there are a lot of guys who want this girl and are trying hard to get her. They are being all romantic and saying things that they really don't comprehend (poetry maybe). Or in a very general sense, a bunch of assholes are trying to pick her up with their best lines.

This song seems totally forgotten to just about everyone. In a world where acoustic is still cool, how did this get passed up?

Bon Jovi – It's My Life Lyrics 21 years ago
This song beats just about any "punk" song that is popular right now. It has more of a "fuck you" attitude then anything Good Charlotte or Blink 182 could ever do. Jon Bon Jovi himself even has it in him. I remember watching an interview with him about MTV and the band's new record. He said MTV had no interest in the band and that they weren't relevant enough anymore. So what they did was play to 500,000 people in Times Square before the Super Bowl. Eat shit and die, MTV (That part is mine)

biggie fries,

Yeah, that is cool when bands do that, it really adds another layer to the songs. If you listen to "99 In The Shade," it has Tommy and Gina in there as well.

Bon Jovi – Keep The Faith Lyrics 21 years ago
Samboras1Chick,

If you really take a good listen to songs like "Livin On A Prayer" and "You Give Love A Bad Name" you really hear some damn cool bass lines when the guitar is a bit more silent.

Anyway, this song seems to just be about things that are screwed up. Nothing is going to well. Not the family, no the world, etc. However in the end you want to hang on and keep the faith.

Billy Joel – It's Still Rock And Roll To Me Lyrics 21 years ago
Really, some people just seem sort of dense. Howcome few people understand the fact that it's a parody?

The only weak thing about this song is that the record version doesn't really get me going. Hearing it live is MUCH better.

Billy Joel – An Innocent Man Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is really cool. It's about a guy trying to get a woman who has been hurt before to trust him. He is an "innocent man" because he never hurt her, but he's suffering the consequences. However he isn't afraid to help her pull through.

Billy Joel – The Stranger Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is talking about the "real you," the one that we tend to hide in public. Since we don't see this person very often, it's called "The Stranger." I think the "storyline" of the song though would suggest that the main character was so busy being someone else that when he finally did go home to a loved one, they didn't recognize eachother. The very last verse sort of gives me the impression that some people really fear this stranger and it's desires, but we shouldn't because sometimes The Stranger is right.

Bon Jovi – She's A Mystery Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is just about loving a woman who you don't really understand at all. *shrugs*, that simple I guess. The important part is that he loves her even though she confuses him and frustrates him sometimes. And if it is about Dorothea, she'd probably beat the shit out of him if he got to frustrated with her :p.

(Dorothea is a blackbelt and also teaches karate, last time I checked)

Yup, I agree with Shine. "Maria" stands up for everything she believes in and will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Bruce Springsteen – Nothing Man Lyrics 21 years ago
In my opinion The Boss wrote this about Police Officers and Firefighters (specificly for 9/11). They do heroic things everyday but are hardly ever rewarded. Now this guy is being rewarded and he doesn't know what to say, he just kind of goes on with his job. He also wants his girlfriend and/or wife to know he isn't anything special, just an oridinary guy.

Bruce Springsteen – Adam Raised a Cain Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about not having a great father and sort of inheriting his problems. You get his bad attitude, his problems, his doubts, his fears, etc. You also know that all his trouble never really got him anywhere.
