Animal Collective – Prospect Hummer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I completely agree with DuckFetus. I believe this song is about a person just laying around and daydreaming. Just thinking about the going ons inside a cat's head. It makes me happeh. |
Animal Collective – April and the Phantom Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I am familiar with an entirely different version of the lyrics. Ctc23 from the "Animal Collective Discussion" (http://www.rerz.net/ac/messages/viewtopic.php?t=7&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30&sid=bb3038d6ff301ee45abebf45c060845a) message board interpreted them as this: When April passes by, she thinks of playing Bach She tells her mother, I am not afraid Of dying in the bath, or swinging on the breeze She asks her mother if she slept with strangers Phantom was the bright way out Of all the things her mother said A whisper to her scream An autumn in my green December, hello frost Her mother would say "Dad, I don't know where April went" She ran out in nature! She ran out in nature! She ran out in nature! She ran out in nature! She ran out in nature… I found the Phantom would go Across the river and hide from suffering Like the shades of trees Take off my dress and flow into the stuff we’re in She ran out in nature What'd she find? She ran out in nature Where'd she go? She ran out in nature Phantom light She ran out in nature Take her home Everybody wants it! Aaah! Can't you see me wastin’? She ran out in nature… We've gotta buy land When they go out and take all the stuff we’re in We've got neither, reachin' for the stars And beg and keep us sufferin’ She ran out in nature What'd she find? She ran out in nature Where'd she go? She ran out in nature Can't somebody She ran out in nature Take her home? Everybody wants it! Aaah! Can't you see me wastin’! I finally see a baby girl, I’m sorry April, but you'll be fine ‘til then, I'm the Phantom, I'm the Phantom, I'm the Phantom, And I sneak around, and you're on top, A frenzy April, let me write it down I'm the Phantom, I'm the Phantom, I'm the Phantom, And in the end, your mother knows, I’m sorry April, but a child grows I'm the Phantom, I'm the Phantom, I'm the Phantom, I am… Watch me as I lead the way From infancy to grown up babies -Phantom, please put on my make-up! I am breathin’, I’ll keep callin' -Phantom, you're all white and naked! Have your baby, I'll keep callin' -I'm not right, I'm not fakin'! I am burnin’, and I'm shakin' -April, no, it's just a spirit! I am there, end is nearin’ April and the Phantom They were just like lovers Always sneakin' kisses for the weekend Everything's just okay with me Everything's just alright with… April and the Phantom spoke in secret code Until they buried Phantom by the road Everything's just alright with me... Everything’s just alright with Phantom… Kid has got no friends… Kid has got no friends at all I have to say I do enjoy this version of the lyrics much better. I also read online that this song is about the death of a pet cat. How, I'm unsure: http://www.sylvanmigdal.com/reviews.php?artist=animal |
Animal Collective – Fickle Cycle Lyrics | 17 years ago |
My personal interpretation of this song is that it's a sort of pondering of the future. It's a realization that people die and we die, and sort of a celebration of life. To me, it's also about history and leaving pieces of yourself behind, becoming a part of the past by the acts that we do. I know this is probably a very debatable interpretation, but, it's the tone of the song and the hints I get from the lyrics that make me think this is what it may be about. For example, "kissing the people that you'll all burn. Trusting your friends without thinking best" sort of reminds me of the process in life of gaining new friends, losing old ones, or making enemies. It's this uncertainty of the future and not knowing what people we will meet in our lives. The lines "one day our homes will all fall down, one day our bodies, etc" are discussing our inevitable deaths and the fact that our possessions in this life will be destroyed or lose all ties to ourselves. The singer of this song often sits and thinks about this, about his nonexistence, and it's a difficult subject to comprehend. Earlier in the song, it mentions that "rooms can be lonely," which I think may be a reference to being unrecognized or unremembered in future generations. It's a lonely sort of feeling. Though, he doesn't care if he has a son who "floats and flies," which means he doesn't want to have a child that will be well known for something and gains some sort of power in this world (which would mean he'd then be recognized through his son). He wants a daughter with humanizing, humble qualities. Someone who is just simply passionate about life. I think that the thought of his nonexistence, the thought of everyone's non existence can be somewhat gloomy, but he's okay with it. "Time to feast, don't wait to play," because we're all going to perish. As for "I wonder who will win" is mocking the fact that people are always competing for recognition, but no one will win because eventually even our own planet will cease to exist. I'm really not sure of any of this, though. I don't even know if there is a real meaning behind the song. I have to say I just love the part about feeling "like kings, some got hurt and some did sing," and then it goes into a bout of powerful melody with raw emotional voices. Absolutely beautiful! |
Animal Collective – Doggy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
When I first saw the lyrics to this song while listening to it, I cried for about an hour. It always breaks my heart when an animal dies, because they're just so loving and honest. I know that my dogs, too, will die someday and it just pierces me deep inside. The lyrics of this song are especially saddening because you can see the process of the dog's end. First there's something wrong with him and the singer doesn't know what to do, he tries everything, thinking the dog can "come down" from whatever the matter is, but then the dog suddenly takes a fall and plunges into an irreversible dilemma. The singer is left helpless and is forced to cope with his friend's unfortunate end. Every pet owner knows that someday this will happen, but it's still a shock when it does. Afterward, all that is left are memories, and all you can do is grieve. |
Tool – Sober Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Hmm. I think the song is about a guy that wants to be drunk so he doesn't have to see the problems of things. But everyone wants him to clean up his act and he doesn't know what to do. He's not a good man when he's drunk, and people tell him he's worthless and not good. But he wants them to see what he sees. Blah, I'm not good at these interpretations...others have much better ones than me...but anyway, back to the song, no one listens to him. He's trying to get them to see what he sees. That's why he says "Trust me," because they're backing away from him. He just wants them to understand. You know, like those drug addicts who want people to "try it" because it makes everything better. He turns to God to get rid of his problems, or possibly the people who want him to sober up keep lecturing about God. In the end, when he says "I want what I want," I've said that before. I've said it when I've just wanted to be left alone. Where I just want to see things the way I want to see things, but everyone is trying to make me see differently. I think that's what he's saying. I too, agree that this is one of Tool's best songs. I don't usually listen to Tool, but I've grown to like what I've heard so far. I hope to hear more in the future. |
Tool – Part of Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Okay, I think we all have our own imaginations about this song, so I'm just gonna say, this is what Maynard says "It's about my penis." And this is what other people want to hear from him "This is about controlling a person and knowing them better than themself." Or something similar to that. Let's just let ourselves feel what we want to feel about all this. I personally don't want to imagine him talking to his dick, so, I'm gonna go for the other meaning. It can go both ways right? It doesn't always have to be what Maynard says, does it? Have a good day. |
