Kanye West – Gold Digger (George Bush Remix) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
How would these things be stupid for Kanye to say? Cos they're true? What are you a Republican or something? |
Pearl Jam – Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
A fool, not a fucking God.... wow If this song does have any Kurt Cobain meaning, there is it's best line..... Just another reason why Eddie's #1 |
Pearl Jam – Animal Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm just trying to make the rape meaning as clear as possible for those who do not see it. The first line "1, 2, 3, 4, 5 agaisnt one... 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 against one" then repeated. The counting up and then the reptition makes the listener aware that he is trying to make a point, the point lying in the numbers 5 against one.... similar to pack behaviour of an animal... "Torture from you to me... Abucted from the streets" This woman is being tortured by the 5 of them who abducted her from the street. That's usually how gang rape happens, except at frat parties, but those we'll leave those animals alone for now... "Why would you want to hurt me? Oh so frigtened by your pain" She, like everybody else who is not a savage fucking pig, can in no way imagine why these stains upon society would do this to her. Then she states that she is frightened by their pain, as a victim obviously would be. The pain she speaks of here could mean 2 things i believe, because she says "yor pain" which causes some ambiguity... it could refer to the pain that they choose to force upon her, or literally their pain, because it's obviously pain and aggression built up in their souls that cause those bastards to act that way, because nothing else could explain why a "human being" would want to do such things... Then the "I'd rather be with an animal..." This implies many different, yet relevant things. First, she'd rather be with an animal, obviously, is a slap in the face to her predators, spiting them because she would never willfully take part in the horrors they are putting her through, she'd rather be with an animal. Then it also goes to show what level of filth that these rejects are on, because their pack-like behaviour is being compared to an animal, and on top of that, in a way, not making them appear to be animals, but showing that they are worse, because animals don't even do that, and people should know better, making those predators less than both... indescribable forms of life.... scratch that; lifeless... So hopefully you can all see now the dominant theme of rape... |
Led Zeppelin – What Is and What Should Never Be Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The lines "Then what's to stop us pretty baby, but what is and what should never be" and "But the wind won't blow, you really shouldn't go, it only goes to show" had lead me to believe that the song was about the guy liking the girl and what not, or them liking eachother, but him saying that despite their liking for one another, that if signs indicate they shouldn't be together then maybe they shouldn't. Or possibly a slightly altered scenario of him trying to convinve her to be with him, saying that there's absoloutly no reason why she shouldn't be, unless it just simply isn't in the cards, and that's none of his control, so let's just be togther, and then if it happensa at least we tried. Actually, after reviewing my own interpretations, I like the second one better. |
Incubus – Megalomaniac Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I don't think that Boyd makes reference to Elvis and Jesus because they thought they were something they're not, I think it's because the "megalomaniac" being mentioned in the song think's he's a king such as Elvis (King of Rock and Roll) or Jesus (King of Kings). It's kind of like a srcastic question, y'know, like "Oh, you think you're king? What do you think you're Jesus or Elvis or something?" He uses these two figures because they're pretty easy allusions for most people to recognize. Everybody who would hear this song would have heard of Elvis and Jesus. |
Stone Temple Pilots – Vasoline Lyrics | 20 years ago |
To me it just seems to be a general statement about people here on Earth, just trying to find out meaning in their lives because they're stuck here like flies in vaseline, so obviously they should try to fulfill their purpose, which I think is what the line "search for things that we can't see". My opinion, think about it. |
Stone Temple Pilots – Big Empty Lyrics | 20 years ago |
My opinion on this song is kind of a mix of everybody elses into one. I think it's a situation where he's either breaking up or has broken up with his girlfriend and now he's just taking one of those drives that many people go on when they need time to reflect. I think the title seems to relate because he's feeling empty after the break up and he wants to be alone. Also the first line when he says driving faster in his car, it seems like he's just letting his emotions take control and he's kind of speeding up and getting reckless because he needs to release tension or he has a lack of concern for his well being because he's heart broken. |
Nirvana – Milk It Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The doll steak line seems to be drawing blanks for most. I think it could possibly be some sort of term like "chopped liver", where he's pretty much just comparing himslef to useless meat. |
Nirvana – Negative Creep Lyrics | 20 years ago |
It seems to me to be the guilt he felt for trying to sleep with the mentally handicap girl. He's a negative creep fro doing so and she isn't daddy's little girl anymore. Ya know? |
Nirvana – Very Ape Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I always assumed the song to be kind of about evolution. I figured that's what the title meant, kind of a reference to the theory of evolution where we all came from apes. Then, I think because of Kurt's negative view of humans the lyrics tend to bring out common human short comings, such as the common arrogance displayed my most humans that he seems to be addressing with the line "I've seen it all, I was here first." Then also the "out of the ground, into the sky, out of the sky, into the ground" lines seem to be speaking of evolution because if you follow that pattern we came from dirt (out of the ground), we "blossomed" or "peaked" in terms of our human capabilties (into the sky), and then our downfall (out of the sky and into the ground). |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Savior Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Some people mentioned that this couldn't be about religion because of the views Anthony displays in Shallow Be Thy Game, but to me this song seems to be about rediscovering Christ or God or whoever. "Dusting off your savior" It's like after such a long time of not beilieving in God he is now, and he's comparing that to taking something off the shelf and blowing the dust off cuz your ready to use it. However, I also like the father theory cuz a lot of people blame God for their problems and then have an inner hatred for him like I'm assuming Anthony may have had with his father, and then when he was ready to talk to his dad again he prolly felt like it was the same kind of relationship that people have with God, they think that everything bad that happens is their fault! I don't know, just some brainstorming on my behalf! |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Easily Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Yeah, I agree with what was said about it not just being about war. It seems to me about trying to lead a care-free lifestyle, hence the title. The line about getting married just sends a whole love and peace vibe, then the anti-war comments, and the shaolin monks, it all fits together! Love not war! |

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Cabron Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Well I agree with th gang theory, and the lyric definately is Dodger blue, but first when I heard it I thought it was an allusion to Crypts cuz they wear blue! But if Cabron is a Spanish word and the music in this sounds Mexican/ Spanish, I'd like to know what the significance of that is? Any ideas? Somebody I believe mentioned a Spanish gang earlier? |
Weezer – Buddy Holly Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Ok there are way too many posts for me to read them all, but I read the first few, so I hope I'm not just repeating what anybody has already said, but does anybody else think that him looking like Buddy Holly has something to do with River's thick glasses? |
The Smashing Pumpkins – Bullet with Butterfly Wings Lyrics | 21 years ago |
First off, I hope I don't repeat much of what anybody else says, because I'm in computer class and don't have time to read many of the posts but I think the cage that he's referring to is the world. It's like he feels stuck here and can't get out. Somebody earlier mentioned the video, maybe the people in the video are trying to dig a way out of the Earth. I don't know, it's all symbolic so it's hard to tell exactly what it means. The Jesus reference could mean that God let Jesus escape Earth, but Billy's still trapped here, that's why he wants to be told he's the chosen one. I'm probably wrong, but I gave it a shot. |

Nirvana – Territorial Pissings Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Sorry I didn't read everybody's posts but I'm in computer class so I have to hurry up. I'm not sure what's been said but a lot of shit in the song seems to be about the government at first glance. This was the first time I had ever read all the lyrics but "culture'sweren'topinions" it seems like more powerful governments forcing others what to believe. The wise man/woman line appears to be about all the stupid politicans running the world, and I'd assume a greater majority of them are males. And then there's the "paranoid" line, I guess it's talking about all the people who think the government are up to something aren't really paranoid if it's true. A lot of this may not be right but I read the song quickly and I didn't have time to go into too much depth. |

Hole – You've Got No Right Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song was supposed to go on "In Utero" from what I've heard, but got cut before the album came out. I don't know why, because it's a really great song. It's called "You Know You're Right" and these lyrics are different from the Nirvana lyrics, for the worse it seems. Although, they are still pretty good I guess, it's just when you hear Kurt sing the different lyrics, they just sound so much better! |
Hole – Nigger of Your Dreams Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Wow! Pretty offensive song! Was there any contorversy over this? |
Lifehouse – Hanging By A Moment Lyrics | 21 years ago |
PS: If there is anyone who is going to act immature and fire comments at me for trying to end the arguing, go ahead and keep the problem going. |
Lenny Kravitz – Mr. Cab Driver Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Well this is definatly a song about prejudice, I would think. "Mr. Cabdriver don't like the color of my skin" and "He don't like dreads, he thinks we're all just crooks" seem to prove that, unless there's another meaning I'm not seeing! I'm not sure why he uses the cabdriver in the song. Maybe it's from a personal experience or maybe it's making refernece to New York, who's cabdrivers are well known, and the city has many different types of people living there. Or maybe that's just he threw in! |
Collective Soul – The World I Know Lyrics | 21 years ago |
That's true, Starlightfading, and I apologize to anybody who had to waste their time by reading those posts of pointless bickering! |
Lifehouse – Hanging By A Moment Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Why is it nessecary for people to come to a place like this and do nothing but insult what other people think? You don't like the type of music that you do because you've thought about it and a praticular knd should be your faorite for logical reasons, you like whatever sounds good or feels good. People cannot change how they feel so why come on a place like this and insult them and rip up their likes and beliefs? Grow up people, by doing this you're only continueing the same hatred that has caused most of us to become the prejudice people we are today, judging people for the way they dress and the music they listen to, just because we think they're doing the same! It's just pointless, saying these things won't change the way they feel, it just causes more hate, and the more hate you give, the more you'll recieve, and vise versa! Just stop, let it slide! |
Nirvana – Rape Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
On the version I have at the beginning Kurt say something about it being about "Big, hairy, sweaty, red-neck men (or man love)"! That's all I can contribute! |
The Who – Behind Blue Eyes Lyrics | 21 years ago |
First I thought this song was about the way Roger Daultry was feeling at a particular moment, because I noticed he had very noticable blue eyes and I figured he wrote it, but then I found out Townsend wrote it. It could still be about the same thing though but I'm asuming it goes deeper than that! |
Alice in Chains – Don't Follow Lyrics | 22 years ago |
It sounds to me that in the first verse he's leaving home with a painful goodbye. It's something he has to do, and tells his loved ones to just say goodbye, let him go, and don't follow. Then the second verse is about how he's been going down since he left. It's talking about the way he's living life. "I get so lossed and don't know how, and it hurts to care I'm going down" Then I think the third verse is his epiphany where he realizes he needs to go back, then he starts to chant, take me home because of the fact that he wants to go back now that his life went down the drain. |
Alice in Chains – Angry Chair Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Another line that I think supports the death row theory is "So little hope that I died" because there is obviously no hope for anyone on death row. |
Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Sorry for the mistake. I was in the fifth grade when I read that and I'm in the 12th grade now, so it kind of got lost along the way. I would assume that the possibility of this is still waht Cornell is talking about! But I could be wrong again! |
Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Something that I remembered recently about the title is that obviously, the sun is a star. And (I read this in a book once) all stars, the sun included, will all eventuallt burn out and become balck holes. Stars keep getting hotter and hotter until the just burn up. So the sun, being a star, will, many years from now, get so hot that everything on the earth will melt. But then when the temperature peaks, it will start to cool off and then everything on Earth will freeze. Wehn the process is ending an the sun becomes a balck hole it will be so big and close to the earth that it will swallow the Earth whole. I think then, that this song is about Chris Cornell wanting for this to happen sooner (Black hole sun won't you come, won't you come) so he can be rid of the hardships of this world. It really reminds me of AEnima by Tool where Maynard is talking about the San Andreas Fault and how it wants it to finally go off and wipe out California and all the bad things. Anyway, this is a great song and I'm pretty sure that's what it all means, but I'm not Chris Cornell so I can't be sure! |
Collective Soul – The World I Know Lyrics | 22 years ago |
It's been a while since I came back to look at this page. I havent seen it since I left my post. Newfoundfinch you can lick my nuts. I was just trying to get tha ball rolling because there was no posts. The whole point of this site is to post the meanings of songs, songmeanings.net. Perhaps you aren't as good as seing the obvious as you thought you were. I may have just wasted several more minutes of my life but I kind of enjoyed it this time, asshole! |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Easily Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Loserdork, what is All Quiet on the Western Front? Is it a poem or a story? |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Get On Top Lyrics | 22 years ago |
The lyrics in this song aren't as great as some of the others on the album but they're catchy and have lots of kick! It sounds to me like it's somebody trying to be a notch above others! He always claims he does something more than somebody else; "You're ill but I'm iller" "You do but I wopper" Just a thought! |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Can't Stop Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This is the most amazing song I've heard by them in a while! I can't belive it wasn't their first single! The first 7 songs on the album are amazing and the rest is all solid! It's very mellow, unlike their old stuff, but it's still just as great! Good job Peppers.! The're on pace to be one of the 10 best bands ever, if they're not already there! They're already my #1! |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – By the Way Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I didn't read all the posts cuz there are too many, but the album has alreay been out now for a long time. It doesn't sound like BSSM, this is as about as hard as the album gets (only Can't Stop is harder) and the album is very mellow and sounds very personal! This song does have a meaning, as does the video, despite an earlier post. The song is about a random chain of events during an evening out. This was already posted but some people still objected. The video corresponds with this, if you couldn't tell! |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Around the World Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I think every single song on Californication is good, even porcelin. It has a good message and has it's own mood. But this song in particular is about a guy who meets girls all around the world and falls in love with them so easily (You say hello and then I say I do)! I never really noticed what it meant until this summer when I had similar experiences in Ontario. Then while listening to this song it all fell into place! |
Soundgarden – 4th of July Lyrics | 22 years ago |
It reminds me of the Revalations at the end of the New Testament. I love when it mentions Jesus tries to crack a smile beneath another shovel load. Yeah I think it's an end of the world scenario which obviously reminds Cornell of the 4th of July because of the fire in the sky or nuclear holocost whichever it may be! |
Weezer – Hash Pipe Lyrics | 22 years ago |
To evryone out there who's badmouthing the song and album, may I remind you that the band doesn't go home and say "OK what will all our fans want to listen to?" They have something on their mind, a story to tell, or a catchy beat and then they make music out of it by molding it with their own personal taste in music. Although I'm sure they enjoy having the respect of the fans and selling albums to put food on the table, as long as they're happy with what they wrote, what else matters? |
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Hey Joe Lyrics | 22 years ago |
No actually I think it is a cover. Possibly from the 50's, but I'm not sure. I also think that many artists did it before Jimi so I would guess it's fairly old because one song doesn't get covered 5 times in 5 years. That Vietnam explanation does seem to fit well though. You can read more about the song in the book that comes with the "Ultimate Experience" album. |
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Castles Made Of Sand Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I think I kind of agree with everybody. It is about broken dreams and the part about things changing applies too. The lines "What happened to sweet love you and me have?" and "He would be a fearless warrior Indian cheif" reinforces the part about things changing; Their sweet love is gone and he's not going to be an Indian cheif anymore. But at the same time these lines imply broken dreams! |
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Are You Experienced? Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This song is obviously about the classic sex, drugs, and rock & roll, and being familiar or experienced with them. At that time I think a lot of the parents were scared that their kids were listening to Jimi, but this song is about how all that stuff feels good and hurts nobody! |
Tupac Shakur – Changes Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Who's the Huey Pac mentions in the first verse? |
Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I think the speaker is actually falling in love with a woman, possibly for the first time, and although he gets all these lovely feelings, he can't help but go back to what he know's. I think the closer to God bit is just an exxageration of how good she makes him feel, but because of the way he is used to treating his partners, he can't show her love, he can just fuck her like an animal! |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – My Friends Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I also agree! I think it's sbout being lonely but having friends there to cheer you up, cos that's what friend's are for! |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Easily Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I agree with the war theory! You guys should check out the poem "Dulce Et Decorum Est" by Wilfred Owen. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw these lyrics. The title is part of a Latin quote "It is sweet and proper to die for ones country"! |
Alice in Chains – Nutshell Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I think it's about how society wants everyone to fit into something and everyone then tries to then to do it, like sheep. He seems to refuse to want to be a part of it, that's why he "fights this battle all alone". He also says if I can't be my own, I'd feel better dead. I think nutshell is describing how he feels confined by the systematic surroundings in his life. It's funny because I while before I came to this I was thinking just the same thing, although I didn't have the song in mind. |
Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I think what this song is about is not him being hurt, but him hurting others. When he says " You could have it all/ My empire of dirt/ I will let you down/ I will make you hurt", he's just saying that you can have me and be in a realtionship with me but I'm warning you I'm gonna hurt you just like I hurt everyone else. He's kinda saying he's a paracite or a brden on everyone around him and he doesn't want to cusre them with his presence! |
Nine Inch Nails – Something I Can Never Have Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I think this ong is great but not their best! I like Hurt! Kind of similar type of song with emotions and stuff thrown in there. Like myfavoriteunderwear, I'm not to familiar with NIN but this song I like! |
