i love the lines, "i've been down for so goddamn long that it looks like up to me." to me its like when youve been depressed for so long it starts to make you happy because you find comfert in it and you really cant tell what actual happiness would feel like. |

the first time i heard this song i thought it was about a person trying to deal with their problems and reality with drugs. "white happiness" is smack..or something of that sort...and the people on the outside are people who aren't junkies. if he were to "stay" with those who don't use drugs than he wouldn't feel this "white happiness." i could be totally off...just what i was thinking. |

i love this song so much. so much better than their new crap. anyway, in my opionion this song is basically about not wanting to move on. not wanting to have to face change. i love the lines, "But that's not what worries me, I just want to know what's home." He's not so worried about his future as he is about finding himself, who he really is. at least that's my opinion. |

i love this song. i defintately see the bullying interpretation, but the first time i heard the song it made me think of something else. I interpreted "superman's dead" as meaning that there is no one to save you from yourself. I thought the other phrases were talking about never being good enough for yourself and trying to pretend like you're fine when you're far from it.

i aslo agree that lyrics (especially from this song) are subject to many different interpetations. That's the beauty of lyrics and poetry in general. However, I heard the "meaning" of this song described once and i thought it was a great interpretation, so im resharing it. I heard it described as "a cynical view of paradise." When you think about it that way it could mean drugs, the entertainment business, or simply a supposed paradise because they all fit people's ideas of paradise. Its a vague interpretation but it allows you to decide what the song means to you, and that (in my opinion) is one of the reasons we listen to music in the first place. |

I think this song definately describes how I am feeling towards someone right now (but switched cuz im a girl :) ) And even though its so depressing, i love listening to it. When I first heard this song I thought that it was about suicide. That it's about how death will welcome you no matter who you are or where you are coming from. "Take your time, hurry up, the choice is yours, don't be late" Sometimes when people are suicidal they'll feel fine one minute and then like they want to die the next; it seems like he is describing their confused state of mind. And at the end with the gun its just verbally ironical. It seems like hes gonna go shoot himself towards the end but he's swearing that hes fine..even though it sounds like he isnt.
*I'm not saying that I think Kurt killed himself or that he worte this song because he was suicidal...That is just my opinion on what the song seemed to say when i first heard it. And not to be a bitch, but for those of you who think Kurt was selfish and cowardly for killing himself, you obviously have no idea what it is like to be suicidal. I know its just your comments and opinions but if you have never felt that kind of pain its alot easier to dismiss it the way you do, and i don't think that's fair. |
