They Might Be Giants – Another First Kiss Lyrics 21 years ago
I don't think it's a sad love song. It's sort of a content, happy song. They're a couple that's been together so long that they can communicate even without talking. Plus, it has lines in it about how "other people were too sentimental. Always worrying about their hair." In other words, no one else can make them feel as happy as each other. And "another first kiss" means that every kiss is like the first one. *shrugs* I think it's cute, at least

They Might Be Giants – Till My Head Falls Off Lyrics 21 years ago
Does anyone else ever get the feeling sometimes that the Johns or someone they know is addicted to painkillers? They make a lot of references to that sort of thing, especially in their old songs, like this one and "Lie Still, Little Bottle"

Gorillaz – Tomorrow Comes Today Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this is another little mindgame song of theirs. Most likely, it's one of their favorite little pranks of "We're cartoon characters, but we're really real and no one believes it." Then, in the second half of the song, it's like "Well now everyone thinks we're real! Haha! Made you look! We're just cartoons!" The Gorillaz group loves to mess with their fans' minds like that, and it especially seems to fit with the music video, what with all the band members superimposed in downtown London...

Gorillaz – Sound Check (Gravity) Lyrics 21 years ago
I think 2D is very literally singing about how much he likes gravity because it keeps us on the ground. Think about it. "Gravity, never let me down. I don't pull me down" And, really, there comes a time where we should all at least once thank the laws of physics for being there for us, right?

Gorillaz – Slow Country Lyrics 21 years ago
It's hard to catch what 2D says sometimes, so I've never really caught all the words, but I think it's another one of those little autobiographical songs about a simple guy from a little cowtown moving to the big city to get rich and famous, but it's harder to do than he thought it would be.

I think Del says "we dead it like D-Con," you know, like D-Con pest poison? *shrugs*

Gorillaz – Re-Hash Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song's just a humorous little autobiographical song about Gorillaz. 2D, Noodle, and Russel just like making music for the heck of it:
It's a sweet sensation
Over the dub...

With the sweetest inspiration
We don't wanna stop...

Whereas grubby old band leader Murdoc's in it just for the money:

It's the money or stop...

So, it's either that or just a little comment on the fact that artists always say they create just for the love of creating art... but when you get right down to it, we all need to pay the bills...

Gorillaz – M1 A1 Lyrics 21 years ago
*shrugs* It's not really a song about anything aside from four cartoon characters wasting time in a recording studio and singing whatever comes to mind.

Gorillaz – Dracula Lyrics 21 years ago
... I, too, have to wonder why everyone thinks Gorillaz equals drugs. *sighs* 2D is a huge monster movie fan. He especially likes zombie and vampire movies. The song is exactly what it sounds like. A song about Count Dracula. It's obscure, yes, but if you've ever listened to anything 2D says, you know he always talks like that.

Besides, a lot of stuff in the song is really obscure references to monster movies. "Some of us will never sleep again," for instance, is a quote from a Dracula movie

Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood Lyrics 21 years ago
2D says "I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad. I got sunshine in a bag. I'm useless, but not for long. The future is comin' on" because he's Stuart "2D" Tusspot and he's always on a combined sugar and aspirin high.

If you know anything about the characters, you know that the rapper in the song is a ghost (named Del) who lives inside Russel's head. The entire rap is all about Del's mammoth-sized ego, how he can alter reality as a ghost, and about the impossible existance of Gorillaz in general as they're cartoons.

"You think it's fictional? Mystical?" - Referring to the fact that the Gorillaz really aren't real and people refuse to accept them as a band

"Spiritual" - He's a ghost

"Hearable" - They're here just to play music. That's their point in "life," such as it is.

"Ya'll can see me now cuz you don't see with your eyes" - 1) he's a ghost and you need a 6th sense to see ghosts 2) the point of Gorillaz is pretending that they're real

All-in-all, it's a weird, darkly humorous song by a British group. No drug abuse. No dark meanings. It's Brits being Brits. End of story

Gorillaz – 5/4 Lyrics 21 years ago
Guys, I think you're missing the point. Gorillaz songs are always strictly about the actual Gorillaz characters... or nothing at all. In this case, I THINK 2D's referring to his (supposedly) abusive girlfriend Paula. Either that or he's on a sugar buzz and singing about nothing again. As for drugs, 2D smokes cigs, but that's all. Muds is the only one who uses any big time drugs.

Gorillaz – 19-2000 Lyrics 21 years ago
I like the song too. And I'm pretty sure the line is still "Get the cool shoeshine." Noodle doesn't pronounce the L or N because she's Japanese and those letters aren't very noticeable in her accent. Why does she sing "Get the cool shoeshine"? Because it's Gorillaz. Hehe
