Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The opening lyrics of this song are so true. They sum up my feelings exactly. And the chorus speaks volumes to me - "everyone I know goes away in the end". To me, it's about being abandoned - by friends, judging by the chorus. It's obviously about self-harm, although I'd never thought of it as about drugs - I always took "the needle tears a hole" to be about self-harming by scratching with a needle. "You are someone else, I am still right here" is about the same thing happening again with someone new. The other person is someone else, but he's still in the same state of mind. I really love this song - it always makes me cry. |
Taking Back Sunday – Follow The Format Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"trigger finger gets you started in the right direction..." This is probably referring to the line "best friends means I pulled the trigger" from "There's No 'I' In Team". Love the new TBS stuff - what I've heard is just as good as the last album. It's a shame this track'll be missing. Can't wait until July 26th! |
Foo Fighters – Aurora Lyrics | 20 years ago |
You know what I just made the connection between? There are two songs I love called "Aurora" - this one, and one by Veruca Salt. Ok, so the VS one was written by Nina Gordon, but Dave Grohl used to date Louise Post from VS - maybe it's about their relationship and that's where he got the title from. This appeared on "There Is Nothing Left To Lose", which was released in 1999 - I know they split in 1997, but Veruca Salt's "Resolver" was released in 2000 with a lot of lyrics aimed at Dave. |
Veruca Salt – Awesome Lyrics | 20 years ago |
It's also "humility", not "humidity" - as in, forget being humble, we're awesome! As opposed to forgetting the heat, which isn't really connected. |
Veruca Salt – Shutterbug Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I thought it was about Dave and Winona, but although Louise and Dave split in 1997, which is the year EATHY was released, Dave gets thanked in the liner notes. Unless it was a joke, I wouldn't thank my ex in my liner notes, so maybe they split after the album was released. So this song isn't about that at all and has very coincidental lyrics. Another theory I have about this one is that it's about different stages in her life. The girl on the telly could be herself - maybe she's seeing her video for the first time. Dave Grohl is probably the last living rock king. Not sure what the other events in the song would be though. |
Veruca Salt – Shimmer Like A Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The song is just full of sarcasm - it's my fave VS track. We're supposed to "shimmer" like girls should - I think it's about defying stereotypes and standing up for yourself as a female. It's got a very riot-grrrl feel to it. |
Veruca Salt – Seether Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think it comes from when you're seething with anger and lose control. You're so angry that you can't control your own actions, the person who's in control is "the seether". There's a girl who lives inside us all called the seether and she comes out when we're mad, even if we try to stop her. I like the line from "Volcano Girls" - "the seether's Louise" - because my name's Louise and I get that way sometimes. |
Bikini Kill – Thurston Hearts the Who Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I always took the song as about following the crowd. If Thurston loves The Who, does that mean you have to too, just because he does? It's like, if someone else (especially a band you like) is a big fan of something, do you have to be a fan of it too, or can you make your own mind up about it? Peace, Love, Emapthy, Louise xxx |
Limp Bizkit – Break Stuff Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I have to say, why do people come here just to leave nasty comments? Ok, so Limp Bizkit aren't the greatest band in the world, but do you really have to say those things? I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but every so often they do a song which appeals to me and this happens to be one of them. I really like the way it's about having one of those days when you just want to break something. Today is one of them for me. People can be so irritating and you just want to hit them. Maybe Fred had a touch of PMS. Peace, Love, Empathy, Louise xxx |
Marilyn Monroe – Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Why has no one commented on this yet? It's one of the most brilliant songs I've ever heard! It's actually kinda my theme song. Peace, Love, Empathy, Louise xxx |
Nirvana – Downer Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This is possibly my favourite Nirvana song, but some of the lyrics are definitely wrong. Of course, Kurt's lyrics are ofter hard to decipher. This is an example of his perfect genius. |
3 Doors Down – When I'm Gone Lyrics | 21 years ago |
The line "I'd never let you down, even if I could" reminds me of my friend - he said that to me and I burst into tears! Of course, I may have had a little too much to drink by then... I haven't seen that video for this - I don't think the song's been released in the UK yet. Does anyone know of a website where I can see it? Peace, Love, Empathy, Louise xxx |
Blink-182 – Anthem Lyrics | 21 years ago |
!Ill pack my bags I swear Ill run Wish my friends were 21 " I actually cried the first time I heard that lyric. I don't know why, but I did. I think the song starts off being about a party, but it's about parental oppression. Peace, Love, Empathy, Louise xxx |
Blink-182 – The Rock Show Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This is a great song and I love it. I think the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory - I really like songs which tell a story. I think it's sad how people can come along and post negative comments instead of what the song means to them. Punk has evolved since it began and has influenced almost all of the genres which are floating around just now. Just because Blink 182 are popular, doesn't mean they can't make "good punk". And if they sounded exactly like the fathers of punk, The Ramones, then people would complain that they weren't original. It's a no win situation that people put them in. Peace, Love, Empathy, Louise xxx |
Blink-182 – Adam's Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Ok, personally, I always saw the song as being about suicide. I actually didn't notice the "happy" bit until I read the lyrics... I always kinda thought the "happy" part was thinking about what life would have been like if he hadn't killed himself. I think the Nirvana-esque lyrics are a sort of tribute to Kurt Cobain - seeing as most people seem to think he killed himself (check out www.justiceforkurt.com). This is an amazing song - the lyrics are really moving and the music complements them beautifully. One thing I love about it is the way it makes me feel as though I'm not alone and I'm not the only one who thinks that way. That definitely helps me through the tough times. Peace, Love, Empathy, Louise xxx |
Nirvana – All Apologies Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song has so many meanings, on so many different levels. To me, Kurt's apologising for being himself. I love to play this one - I can really relate to it. On "In Utero" it has more of a sarcastic tone - Kurt's mockingly saying he's sorry, but not really meaning it. The "Unplugged" version seems more like he's genuinely apologising. It's as though he's sorry for being himself, for existing, for breathing in and out... But that's just the way I see it. Peace, Love, Empathy, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Basket Case Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I love this song. Green Day are fantastic. No one can beat this song, not even the 70s punks. And I do love classic punk. Luv, Louise xxx |
KoЯn – Thoughtless Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Wow, I love this song. I can relate to them, because I've been bullied before and I know what it's like to feel that way. This song expresses those feelings perfectly. The best songs are the ones where you can switch them on and feel as though you're not alone. As though there's someone out there who feels the same way you do. Luv, Louise xxx |
Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is just amazing. I thought he was singing "i'm not gonna cry" at first, but "i'm not gonna crack" makes sense too, especially if it is about going mad. The song sounds great either way. Luv, Louise xxx |
Foo Fighters – Big Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Heehee... has anyone seen Dave's hair in the band performance part of the video? Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Espionage Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This websites about songs, not lyrics. Listen to the music and discuss that. Or make up your own. Whatever. Good Track - I'm listening to it just now, so that's why I came to this page. Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Macy's Day Parade Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I think it's about how everyone wants material stuff - designer clothes etc. Macy's Day Parade. Macy's department store does it's annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. It's like, the big companies are so powerful, holidays are being named after them instead of something historic. Did anyone else make that connection? Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Jackass Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Wish I could've gone to Pop Disaster. It didn't come to the UK. I can see why it could be interpreted as aimed at Blink 182 (oooh! Big words for a little blonde! Aren't I clever?) It's a great track because I know a guy who's "always cracking the same old lines again ". He's a fool. Love Green Day. They've got a track for every one of my moods. Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Desensitized Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I wondered what was going on at the start of the song. Can you believe I didn't notice Mike playing Baseball Bat in the Nimrod sleeve? I usually memorise the linear notes! Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – The Grouch Lyrics | 21 years ago |
"Wasted youth and a fistful of ideas I had a young and optimistic point of view " Things didn't turn out the way he planned so he feels the world owes him... Great song. Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – King for a Day Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song makes me laugh because I'm convinced a guy I know's a cross-dresser, but he won't admit it! I wish I could see them live but their only Scottish tour date was T In The Park and I couldn't get tickets. Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Misery Lyrics | 21 years ago |
For some strange reason this song reminds me of The Godfather (maybe coz I was listening to it after watching the film). I think it's a song about a bunch of people and the mess they made of their lives so now their living in misery... Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Church on Sunday Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Love this. It's kinda like if he gets a second chance, he'll do anything for her... wish someone'd say that to me. Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Outsider (Ramones cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I'm always the outsider. Love The Ramones - another of my dad's faves that I listened to as a kid. Green Day rock. They even do cool covers. Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Tired of Waiting for You (Kinks cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Yeah, I grew up listening to my dad's Kinks CDs and I was curious to hear how this would turn out. Most bands would be delighted to have their albums sound half as good as a collection of Green Day B-sides! Shenanigans just proves how amazing they are. Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Ha Ha You're Dead Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is so good. I know that's what I'll be singing when a certain person dies. Coz he's an asshole. Most bands are lucky to have one good songwriter. Looks like Green Day have at least two. Has Tre written any? Maybe on the next album! Luv, Louise xxx |
Nickelback – Never Again Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This song is amazing. I've never been through anything like that, but just from hearing the song, I feel like I have a better idea of what's going on in my friend's life. Has anyone seen this one done live? I saw them play Glasgow on August 26th and they rocked! It was the weirdest thing ever to hear at least 15000 people singing in a Canadian accent! It was so funny coz the whole place was trying to sound like Chad! Luv, Louise xxx |
The Undertones – Teenage Kicks Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This is one of my all time faves. My dad was a punk and I've grown up listening to this. All of their music reminds me of sitting in the car when my dad's driving, because he always played this kind of music. You're right about the word classic. This is one of the times it can be used, but it's so annoying to hear some little pop band who'll be yesterday's news in a couple of months bringing out a new single and all the poppy magazines are calling it a classic, when it sounds just like every other song they ever made. Luv, Louise xxx |
Reel Big Fish – Where Have You Been? Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I love this song, I saw Reel Big Fish supporting Sum 41 in March here in Glasgow and they were incredible! For me, it's not so much about a relationship, but about someone who deserted you coming back and wanting everything to be like it used to, even though it can't. Yep, I know that story. Luv, Louise xxx |
Incubus – Wish You Were Here Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I love the imagery in this song. For me, it's about being in a perfect place, having a great time, but at the same time, you can't help but imagine how much better it would be if a certain person was there. I know the feeling. My parents took me on holiday to Menorca and although the place was gorgeous, I couldn't enjoy it properly because my best friend wasn't there. Luv, Louise xxx |
Incubus – Drive Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I like the way everyone has their own ideas about the song. Personally, I think it's about overcoming your fears. Life is a road, you're a car, and your fear's steering. What you've got to do is take the wheel from your fear and choose where to go for yourself. Definetly inspirational. I find it helps if I've got fears which I need to get over. I think I owe Incubus my life with this one. Luv, Louise xxx |
Incubus – Are You In? Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Wouldn't people complain if they kept doing the same songs over and over? "Oh, it sounds just like their last one" Come on! Change is good! I heard somewhere that this is about orgies, but I dunno if they were just talking about the video. Only problem with this song is my mum keeps singing it! :) Very weird to walk around the house with my mum forgetting half the words while she's ironing! Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – Brain Stew Lyrics | 22 years ago |
gotta love this song... it's the first (and so far only) song I ever learned to play on guitar. When you listen to it, you can really hear what he means. I feel like this after a concert, all that adrenaline keeps you awake... and the song helps me to understand what new parents mean when they say the baby keeps them awake! |
Green Day – Blood, Sex and Booze Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Yeah, it's about bondage, but I think it's also about wanting something, but now wanting it at the same time... does anyone get me? "it's so unfair/don't make me beg" hint at an unwillingness to go through with it, but "it feels so good/so do it one more time" sounds like he's enjoying it... do I think too much? Luv, Louise xxx |
Green Day – All by Myself Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This song just cheers me up because it's so... different. My sis keeps listening to it over and over... one day my parents will work out what it's about and go nuts! Luv, Louise xxx |
