Joyful, I have a version on this song and during the last few minutes John talks about making up a song. It's definitely John at the end. That is what makes me believe that he is actually singing the song. I could be wrong though. I see your point on the voice being too airy. |

I just heard this song from my ex boyfriend b/c he wanted me to know how he felt. Even though it was painful to hear (who wants to hear that a guy would pick his friends over you?), the song basically forced me to understand that it wasn't me, but him. It also helped me to realize that it sucked for him b/c he truely didn't mean to lead me on. This is all so cliched, I know, but I'm really happy that I've come across NFG and I'm definietly going to check out their older stuff b/c this song rocks so I'm sure others will rock also. |

I have a live version of this song and John Mayer explains what it is about. He says that is having the right time to end the relationship but something comes up. Like he said "Well, I told her I would go to the Peter's wedding and I can't break that." Hence, all the holidays are the reason why they stay together (Nobody wants to be alone at x-mas time), but after St. Pat's there is no reason. I don't know if that helps but thats how he explains it. |

*Sigh*... I can't wait to find a guy that would fit this song.. I agree with emilyeelizabeth too though. The song could also be about friends and how lucky that you are to have them in your life. The only part that doesn't jive is the verses about the old man and the women. Still it's a beautiful song about love and the power of it. |

I think this song is about a guy who was dating a girl and he cared about her. When he really needed her though, she left him. Then she went and told everyone how great she was in the relationship but she just couldn't do it anymore. I think thats why he ask "Does it comfort you to know you fought the good fight?". and why he talks about her "bragging rights." I could be wrong but it still is a great song. |

This song is the best relationship song I have ever heard. The emotion that he puts into it and some of the lines just make me sob.. Especially the lines about the hell he has put her through.. I need to play this for my ex just so he can know the hell he has put me through. Amazing song.. |

This song just completely captures the pain that comes from breaking up but I also think that it kinda has some hope to it. I think he is trying to say that though it's hard, it has to be done. It's such a beautiful song with a ton of emotion. The live version is amazing. I agree with jmnifty4 that Ben Haper is god :) |

Even though this song is about a guy singing to a girl, I still totally relate to it. Especially the part about him not being able to be her angel. I wish I could be this guy's angel but unfortunately he still needs to learn a few things by himself first. That's what I think this song is kinda about. That and how unhappy she is. It's just a great song. |

This song speaks to me so much especially since my boyfriend and I broke up three weeks ago. We have to go to the prom tomorrow together too.
"Well, you'd like to think that you were invincible. Yeah, well weren't we all once before we felt loss for the first time." That has got to be my fave line of the song though. Just describes evrything I've been thinking for the past few weeks. |

Okay so nobody has written about this song, but the live version is just incredible. The lyrics really speak to me also but that might be just because my ex and I broke up a week after Saint Patrick's Day. Still, I think that John Mayer has a song that speaks to me about everything and this is just one of my favorite ones. |
