i think this song is about todays society and since the chilis grew up in california it could be specifically about the sickness in hollywood these days.people are changing themselves just to be accepted.he also mentions kurt cobain which describes the disfunctional life we live where people are dying everyday.tidal waves couldnt save the world from californication could mean nuthing can be done to save the world from the pain we live in because its a cycle that just keeps on going.basically it is saying that the world and society is so far gone its ridiculous. |

i love anthony kiedis and the rest of the chili peppers as well!! this song is amazing..i first heard this song driving in a car with my mom...tears just started pouring from my eyes and i couldnt stop it..the song is just so beautiful especially on the nice summer day i 1st heard it on.this song reminds me of summer .and i believe the meaning is...lonliness...feeling like theres no1 to turn to...trying to get away from ur hometown perhaps .and starting a new life though it will be a struggle on the way.say goodbye to ma and pa could mean he is finally on his own..facing the world on his own without the help of those who have cared for him all along.he needs to get through this on his own and in the end he will be happy with himself. |

i think this song is describing todays society and todays youth and how sum of us allow ourselves to be brainwashed.its telling us that if we dont smarten up and begin thinking on our own we may be so far gone in the future that we'll be like robots..i think it is a great message for all of those ppl in society who believe everything they are told and soak up everything they are offered. |
