This one is tough, but the drawn emotion of the music itself steers me towards the journey of growing up. This song is all about the intricacies of keeping as much as yourself through the age. "I used to be a little boy So old in my shoes And what I choose is my voice What's a boy supposed to do? The killer in me is the killer in you My love I send this smile over to you" First and second line show that he was a special boy. He was one that was more aware and mature for his age. And he has to choose to continue to be himself, regardless of the parts of him he chooses to kill. "The killer in me is the killer in you," is admitting that no matter what, he will be like his parents in some way or another. "Ooh, the years burn" Means how growing up can't help but burn away at the identity of you. But true growing up knows that sooner or later you're going to try to get back to square one. You want to get back to being a kid and free. So the whole song is a fight to maintain who you are, throughout the years, growing up and never losing yourself to the practices and the teachings of what they deem as adulthood. Bless you all. |

Is this all songmeanings has become? People anally quibbling over lyrics? Look wrong or not we get the gist of it. Here's my meaning: It's all about living to the fullest. All about having a game plan for life and having the balls to fulfill it. To know that anymore, you can't just pass through life. For us Americans, there is no American Dream... only the dream. You can't know your limits until you push forth. Evolving and learning to become the best you can, to learn to fly and follow your life. In the day you play and live like normal human beings, at night you get together and find your way. Search things out. Find ways to become who you are without society leaving you still small. It's about having a purpose. It's about having the courage, the balls, to walk your path. To become who you are. Good people are often hurt by this current environment. Hurt by others and one bitten they end up like hermits, never wanting to go out, never wanting to face the world. So he is saying we'll not worry about the others. We'll do our thing and not let society judge us, even see us, in our wake. We'll do our lives our way, and rise. When we rise and pass over like a satellite, we'll have each other to watch our backs. I can't help but find the meanings of Poe's songs in transcendentalism. Maybe because that's what I see of Poe's music. And maybe because that is who I am. And maybe that's how we connect. I'm not going to do a line-by-line because much of it is easy to follow along. But here are the key sections that forge together my interpretation. You thought you could keep me from loving You thought you could feed on my soul But while you were busy destroying my life What was half in me has become whole Especially the last line shows how during her suffering she had grown. From her inside, she has become spiritually complete. While you were looking the other way While you had your eyes closed While you were licking your lips 'Cause I was miserable While you were selling your soul While you were tearing a hole in me This part is how he is very much a vampire. Coming back to this song I now know what it means. Its about him wanting to put her back together the way she should be. He absolutely loves her and sees so much into her. "I want to wake up where you are" You see right now she's confused. She's shattered her past life and left pieces behind because she's trying to survive into becoming new again. "Don't you love the life you killed" Powerful line. There's some sarcasm there. It's him saying don't you love the life you grew out of? How in the past: "The priest is on the phone Your father hit the wall Your ma disowned you" But now she's left confused and broken. She doesn't know which way is right, which is wrong. She's missing those pieces she left behind and he is saying he knows what to replace it with. That he loves her so much that he'll wake up right with her confused and not say a word. He won't even bother her, he simply wants to be with her to life like her. "I wanna wake up where you are I won't say anything at all So why don't you slide" The epiphany of this song came to me when dealing with my own life. I've always had problems with transitions, from doing one thing to another. For example I want to be a novelist, yet when I sit down and prepare to write I have that growing fear and workplace tension (like my previous 9 to 5 jobs) how I must settle down and match the quality of my work. I'm afraid of my own writing! So I was thinking, why don't I work on the transitions of my life. We all go on vacations and when coming back, well we never want to come back. Because at the end of that vacation lies that wall of tension of our life back and all the old things we must return to doing. So why can't I just slide from thing to thing without worrying about the emotional walls I must trespass. Why not just simply slide... This is my meaning and I hope you enjoy it. |

Currently in running as my favorite song from this album, but antisaint is helluva hard to beat. Alright opinions aside. I love Chevelle because they don't preach, but rather they show you the process. They are explaining the science of religion. IF you don't voice yourself and take your life back immediately, you are losing your value. And losing your life. "Cause quietly, you're overrated anyhow And currently, you spread yourself so thin" Us spiritual types believe we are exceptional people in this rat race of a world, yet without a voice we are weaker then the next asshole. And energetically we must take back our lives, because currently we do not allow enough of ourselves out to create the beautiful dreams that we want to make come true. That's Straight Jacket Fashion. Good people tend to tie and bind themselves up in their own perceptions, because they care far too much about what others think. It's kind of cliche, the push to think for yourself, but perhaps some of us needed it to be beat in our head multiple times. I for one certainly am. "We last because we're colorful And as for fools, just play the opposite" Don't forget that a person who has delved within and learned to become their potential survives through everything because of that richness (color) we have inside of us. As it says, as for the fools or assholes in the world, those that detest and want to ruin life in any way, just do your thing. Don't get sucked in and go on. Erase them from your lives, and end things with a smile. No matter a bloody-knuckle fist fight or the causation of job stress, you stand up for yourself against these people and end it with a smile. This song is about enlightenment. The spikes that happen in your life and how you deal with it. We are sitting and wasting ourselves away in this "bed" of our life with so many of the answers. But we've learned to let ourselves be knocked down and we take those answers to our grave. This guy had an experience with aliens telling him he's the ONE, and I think when it says "I forgot my pen" I think that is a metaphor. It is becoming a more popular belieft that this life is like a dream, and we all carry the pens to write in the experiences. This guy went through this experience that gave him such clarity in mind, yet when he left, he denied himself so many times that he was back to that cloudy state. And then when I see him in the bed shitting himself, I picture that is him in the future. That he has done nothing with the information he has recieved, and therefore is left old, withered, and ironically a waste in his own waste. |

Witness the failure of art within this world. Please, read that statement carefully. Art is meant to inspire creativity, it is the tidal wave of energy that is meant to paint our worlds around us, coloring everything so brightly. Unfortunately, art today is used to stymie that. We as creative thinkers are all letting the TV screen tell us what to do. We let the movies take us away from our creativity. It is creativity explained. But its not art's fault. It is our own in the state of this world. We are not quite monsters but so many of us are starved. We are starved for love, feeling, success, and quality of life. So many of us are alone, and with the internet, there's one more excuse not to be courageous and connect with each other. We are letting the mediums control us, and we remain starved. Everyone thinks you have issues, and inside such conflict overcomes you. You're growing and you know, you're someone special. And remember this time is the time to enrichen yourself. And anyway, now you're free. Ok, normally I get mad when other people go crazy when a guy has one or two words wrong in the lyrics and then they plaster the whole new lyrics in a post. However this is critical to this song, so I'll add the little correction: "Cause he’ll pay for it, the whole sum To magnify pain is point number one" The devil will pay for it. He'll pay for it all. Every single sin he's committed on us. We have to remember that and fight back. Use it to your advantage. Darkness inside is not used to cause evil, its to pay the devil back, bitch-by-bitch. So its not "or" its "to magnify." "Rebuke, don’t choke on this twisted dream" He's saying fight back. finalpoet very excellent description in two words. I feel you there with the betrayal and revenge. Here's my view as well: Seems like a lot of us are caught up in the same place. The world (society) is more about tricking you into thinking you're in a euphorian society more so then you really are. Each day you wake up to billboard's of captivating beauties and watching TV of beautiful people that you can feel a place with. But the reality is, until we break out in our own individual lives, we are slaves to someone. Many of us have awaken only to find ourselves stuck in that corporate place or whatever it may be that seems to be an imprisonment. On our own individual journies we will find many answers, and the way out. "The one I trusted sold me this is overblown But I didn’t want to believe Everyone I trusted deceived me" Our attempt to be a part of society and we trust others only for reasoning of wanting to fit in. We want to be a part of something because we truly love others. That is something we cannot help. But now we allow ourselves to be controlled. We thought we did so well to whomever controls us, whether it be a co-worker, lover, manager, boss, whatever. Some authority figure usually. But that person is only a megalomaniac. They want the power and spotlight to themselves. They only service themselves. "I will lose my mind make it real this time To leave it all behind I won’t cry wolf Show me a sign planets will align I’m gonna blow my mind I won’t cry wolf" From a literal, surface perspective it looks like this person is going crazy. But in reality the transgression to a higher state involves you giving up your mind. All that logic, rationalization, and thinking needs to be taken out of you. It is what grounds you here, and sometimes it is too heavy. We need to break free and listen too our hearts. Let the mind do its thing, and you'll let nothing in. "I won't cry wolf" This is significant to me on a personal level. Because I, myself have been trapped in a job I don't like. And for the longest time I felt I couldn't break out. That if I quit I couldn't support myself. Now I'm letting faith fill in the holes and insecurities. So, when you're ready to make the stand, don't talk-the-talk, but know that you'll walk-the-walk jsut as well. Know that you are truly loved by higher forces out there if you stay close to your heart and do the right thing. And when it seems like you're going to risk it all... just know you are in soft hands. This song has been very personal to me. |

You see, some of us feel so much pain that we die and are re-born again so many times. How so many bands have taken pure commercialism in and have reproduced popular music over-and-over just to make a quick buck. Well now bands are fighting back. These, many of these, are the bands that don\'t care what their name is, who they are, but simply believe in their message. I believe Chevelle is one of these. And going to a free concert of theirs just last year supports that argument. The ironic part, as I mentioned earlier, is that now these bands tend to not pick you up with their name, or their individual players, and so all of a sudden they have become nameless like the mass market of nameless bands! Yet their body, or their message, or music tells it all. And the \"clincher\" to that LOL is that no business can reproduce that aspect. They can come up with the right spikey hair, the right black fingernails, the right ripped shirts and pants, the right manufactured sounds in their music... but they lack the truths in their message. Anyway, very good post. And don\'t doubt yourself in not understanding what you love about their music. You know. You just tend to think about it, and that\'s when things get confusing. Don\'t think. The \"Clincher\" part of the song is the best! At first glance I get this. That he has lost a loved one. But the clincher as he mentions is how he is the one growing cold and dying. \"Could we have known Never would I, helped to nail down\" I can\'t help but figure Jesus into this. Perhaps we all have to get past the fact that Jesus is not a Christian thing. He is who he is, whether you believe it or not. There is a spiritual army rising, children who won\'t deny what our elders have hidden so far away from us. And now spiritual people don\'t see things as in Christian, Lutheran, Mormon, Buddhist, or Hindu. They see it for what it is. And how they interact with it, they are so versatile because they will use any path at any time. Anyway, sorry I got off base. But perhaps he is looking at the issue of death and decay and how it affects so much of us, whether we are alive or not. I think every one of us who has lost a loved one tends to at least once look at God and ask why? And so this is maybe his way of saying that he didn\'t deserve to lose who he\'s lost. That if he known back then he wouldn\'t have chosen to help nail Christ to the cross. So now he\'s saying \"saturate,\" telling the deceased to spread their energy out to the earth and all the beautiful things of life, instead of clinging to him because it\'s literally killing him. |

This song... absolutely beautiful. BTW I just saw them in concert last weekend in St. Louis! Very, very good show. Bert gets the crowd roaring and moving. Back to the song. Seems like somewhere within his lyrics whether it fits or not, Bert tends to write about long and someone special. For this song, it seems a little outside of the subject. At least at first... It's about waiting for the call. Waiting for that time where you can get the guts to walk away from whatever life that has been made for you, and to walk into the life that you make for yourself. "The taste of ink is getting old" The bitterness setting in. I will tell all of you now out there that reads this, including a message to myself. YOU WILL get bitter no matter what if you stay in that same sunken place designed for you from society. Unless you find out something that you truly love out there and find your life, you will first become numb: "Being half-dead wasn't what I planned to be" So free yourself. And like I said, this message is to myself as well. I'm stuck here in boring melodramatic IT world, and hoping and walking with my belief in hopes that it will set me free. It's a very hard decision to make and high risk to jsut one day walk away, so be patient. Wait for the call. Wait for a sign. Something to tell you silently. "You're ready..." This is about being in that place that's totally bleak. That you find more-and-more your paths are being cut off. That life starts becoming an antonym in itself. There is no reason to live. Why live when all there is is sadness? All there is is pain. Otep is so awesome because they usually have a duality going on in their songs. On one hand you find out how bleak it is to live in this ses pool. But there is always a doorway. Always a way out no matter what. Even if everything is cut off on the outside you can always go inside. And that alone gives me reason to believe in something or someone higher. It can't be random that there is always a certain doorway out. An exit from the pain and sufferring. These lines are utterly beautiful: "- this is where i hide my power - this is where i become free - this is where i take control - and slowly choke your fantasies - i want to know my day is coming - see my enemies be punished - shed my skin again - this will be my best revenge!!" To me revenge is beautiful. Maybe I'm sadistic in the view of others for thinking so... but I think redemption needs to sweep across the world. I think everyone needs to get exactly what they deserve, whether positive or negative. So this kind of revenge is something that is not always harmful. And harm isn't my objective. Just a lesson to make everyone rethink, whether it be to continue in their direction or change it. |

Maybe Bob Seger just makes me think of "Turn the Page," but I see a lot of similarities with this song and that one. The feeling to me is the same. It's about being on the road and travelling and surviving, and being alone. Where you make a living and in doing so, leave your loved one behind. I always get this imagery, of being somewhere far away in such a cold place, with the wind blowing against your hair, your hands tucked in your coat pockets, and taking a stroll and just thinking. How this life is so much a place we don't fit in sometimes. Even if there was a way to see your family or loved ones across the globe in an instant, well I wish it wasn't fiction. We all work so hard in this life. We all try to be someone. And it gets incredibly difficult just being here at times. How we all need that someone we can always think about, remember, and pull us through those tough times. I hope that each and every one of you has that someone. Or if not, I hope you will. Sometimes the sufferring involved with loneliness is merely just the fact that you don't have someone that thinks of you. That you don't have someone that is watching over you. To be erased is the worse thing to me. |

How it is accepted these days for people to leech off of others, to push each other down to elevate oneself, and the abuse. And we've got the Blood Pigs, people who are as low as the name implies, yet we are serving them. We are the ones listening to them and supporting their distorted views. In the beginning I like the feel from the song, it makes you feel like a wayward spirit just wandering through the town. So everything is normal, from the horse tables to the father reading tales to the child, but what goes on behind closed doors is another story. And then all of a sudden, BOOM, she is calling for an uprising. For everyone to take a stand against the atrocities of a place gone bad. Stand up to you're values. Leave the pain behind. I think a big thing about Tool is the ambience in the subject of their songs. This is the only band that I can come back to and listen to a song time after time and it'll have a different meaning. They have something in there for all levels of listening. So be careful when taking in the surface of their songs. You have to dig to fully understand the message. I'm sure Stinkfist isn't just a song about fist f*cking. I'm sure Prison sex isn't a song just about what goes on behind the dirty corners in a penitentary. And I'm sure 46&2 isn't just about evolution in chromosomes. I think Mrs. Nelson said it best, "About the song, I think the Carl Jung theory is the best. But only as a metaphor." The message to me in this song is that evolution is not an automatic process. It is not something that a encompasses a whole race We as unique individuals have a chance to evolve based on our choices. A lot of these things are relative. |

I see this song as one in a war between good and bad. Only it is the good looking at the bad (who is playing dead). People feel that there will be an epic war someday between good and evil. There are stories being told in multiple variations, but so many of it encompass that simple element. But the war is now. And what evil doesn't realize, is they have no strength to stand up to good. I was led to believe that evil is fallacy, and works with deception. That is its only means. So a truly evil person couldn't harness any sort of power, because they are fake. They can go around building their illuisional empire, using building blocks that is non-existent, creating their high towers that can reign down on others. But what is to come of all this? It's merely nothing. So they shouldn't expect their life to become anything. Simple as that. This person is good. And they are angry to find out that this wasn't even an epic conflict at all. That all evil can do is play dead. That is their only device. A lot of us good people are fighting for our lives. We our trying to take back our world. We have attuned to war regardless of what front we make a stand in. The decievers just cast others away in trickery. They make people believe they are prisoners and slaves and therefore they are. It accomplishes nothing as far as nature goes." I disagree with that. I'm not homosexual, but to me, its all about love. And unfortunately we don't have enough of that in this world. For a single couple to come together and make love, regardless of gender, then I do think it that energy makes the world a better place. I think more love in general is needed. Not that I am offended at your view Wordbird. I mean, you make some very valid statements. I have no reason to hate you for what you said. And to me its all about opinion. As long as hatred is not involved and somebody doesn't go on a vendetta killing spree against homosexuals or whatever race/gender/minority. And I'm not really discussing homosexual sex. It's really just about sex. I see nothing wrong with protected sex between a couple who do not want to ever reproduce. Because to me sex is a sacred thing between two forces and the exchange of that energy is something so very valuable alone, not to downplay a baby coming into the world. If I hear or see a couple of men (or a couple of women for that matter) and they sincerely love each other and celebrate it with sex, I don't see anything wrong with it. Unfortunately due to the nature of things and how homosexuality is still a repressed existence in society, there are a lot of fetish type places or things associated with it. Like people who get together at bath houses and have random sex. Don't get me wrong, I don't get turned on my two guys having sex either. And in fact I get turned off. I couldn't watch it. But for example if I saw a couple of guys in public that loved each other, it wouldn't bother me. |

I feel this song is talking about how so much of your life can change in a short time based on your decisions. Like all it takes is 30 minutes for you to take a chance that will change your life forever. This line seems pivotal in this song: "In the moment it takes To make plans, or mistakes" (BTW I think the lyrics here might be a little off) It's saying It compares how long it takes for anything life changing to happen. 30 minutes is a blink of the night (it's so quick). 30 minutes to all of our lives (In 30 minutes you'll never live the same). So its two of them deciding whether they should stay or run away together. And what makes that decision so hard is how it will dramatically change them for the rest of their lives. But it is ironic because the decision is only 30 minutes. |

To me its about being in a safe place to be free and be able to do anything. Even if it's "forbidden" love and I don't mean this just in a homosexual sense. People in history have been forbidden to love each other for many reasons. Also, I went to a website that had the translation to the Russian Rap and it's just a bunch of random things that possibly depict all the pain and sufferring and drama they went through in life. So to me I liked the way this song was structured. It's like through the Russian Rap they are going through the crap of their life, struggling to be. And then when the soft singing starts, they are at peace and in a safe place with each other. Peace is not an easy feeling to find. And when you do find it, its not easy to hold onto, like a keepsake. Anyway, that's the way I see it. Know what I mean? |
