I posted this awhile ago, but the comments were deleted for some reason.
I think it's about how 311 is tired of always waiting for their big break (Partial stoning of the heart, waiting for something to start...)...and how they get their hopes up with every record, but they just get disappointed with bad reviews (But the trying again, makes me think it's all gonna end, confusing use of time.../Today, the longest day hearing repeating things you'd say...). They're tired of not getting the attention they deserve sometimes. But! When they go out on tour, and hear the fans talk about how much they love them, and how much 311 means to them..they forget all of that bad stuff (But everytime I turn the volume down, all the I hear is the deafening sound, of you hearts pound...) In the end, it's hard to go out and do your best when all you hear about is the negative side of yourself (Can you hear the void I describe, what could I say vacancy sounds like, confusing use of time...)
After thinking about it like that...this song makes me really sad! expecially the "makes me think it's all gonna end" part... |

Whoever commented on my "I'll continue to be bitter until I hear my favorite song on the radio" comment...
I WANT my favorite bands to get radio play....I want them to make money so they can continue to make the music I love so much...and I want other people to be exposed to their music. Call me crazy, but I think that's the whole point of being in a band and making music for a living.
Most of the bands I listen to have been around for awhile and have a set "sound" that they're recognized by, so I feel confident that they aren't gonna change their styles...no matter how popular they might become. If by some chance they do decide to change things up a bit, I'm sure it's because they really feel that it's a necessary step in their musical careers.
I know how some people on this site can be, and I completely understand why you would make a comment like that...but you really shouldn't let a few bad apples ruin your opinion of the whole bunch |

Last time I saw the drum solo they added a cymbal between each drum...so 2 of the guys were hitting the same cymbal at the same time.

"punk" (the kind of "punk" that everyone here seems to be talking about) sells every day...ie: Blink182. If she really wanted to be punk, she wouldn't care if her music sold mainstream or not. Avril is the new poster child for all the little girls that go to the Gap, buy a shirt, stick a few safety pins in it and smear a little dirt on it so they can be "SO punk rawk".

I'm surprised that no one has commented on this song yet. I've been having a hard time figuring this one out...to me, the first verse is about loving your life and being yourself...after that..i'm lost. Anyway...meaning or no meaning...it's still a damn great song. |

I don't really think this song is ABOUT movies...maybe he used his knowledge of film making to describe something deeper. To me this is a song about looking into things more, about not believing everything you see. It's about slowing down and taking things in..not getting caught up in the rush of everything.
Those last few lines...“Plato’s cave is full of freaks, demanding refunds for the things they've seen, I wish they could believe in all the things that never made the screen,”...to me he's saying that people take movies (or television or magazines or whatever) to heart too much....people tend to forget that most of it is extremely over exaggerated. There's life beyond all of that stuff...don't take things so seriously. |

It's funny that you liked System of A Down "right when theyre cd came out," daronmalakianrules...considering that singles usually come out before the CD is released...and they had an album before Toxicity. I honestly can't take anyone who listens to Godsmack seriously....I can only hope that one day you'll see the light and stop letting all the negative vibe merchants suck you into their world. 311 is an amazing band....you don't have to like them...just appreciate what they've brought to music and all that they have accomplished over the years. |

What the fuck kind of rock have you been sleeping under for the past 10 years? 311...along with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Sublime...paved the way for SO many bands that are huge on the radio today. Just because they don't piss and moan about how unfair life is all the time doesn't mean that they're talent-less. Hah..you know I love ya, ate_16am...and now I agree with you. I'd love to turn on my radio and instead of hearing what in my opinion is mostly garbage...hear some 311. They could...and will...get fans grassroots style, but the radio is a great way for younger people who don't go out and look for quality music a chance to hear something good. |

I disagree, ate_16am. I think 311 should get as much radio play as they can. With all the negativity in music these days, I think it'd be great for as many people to hear them as possible. Radio play isn't gonna change my opinion of them..and I dont think it'll change the opinions of any other hardcore 311 fans. 311 definitely deserve the attention. |
