R.E.M. – Losing My Religion Lyrics 9 months ago
Great but kind of sad song about infatuation that he has to eventually admit is just a dream. Is more a song about limerence than love I find. He finds reasons to think the other person likes him too, but is just his misinterpretation of these signs to suit his fantasy. His fantasy is like a religion in how it on his mind every waking hour, dominating his thoughts and factoring in to everything he does in some way. When he lets it all slip and attempts to bring his dream into reality, he is finally forced to confront the truth that made it all up in his mind and none of it was real. He's suddenly stripped of his fantasy and loses his religion. I'm sure we've all been there.

Something For Kate – Déjà Vu Lyrics 9 months ago
He seems to be likening his relationship to being adrift, and he can see the lights on the shore and he knows they will have to break up and then he can swim for the shore, but instead he stays out there adrift with her. The Deja vu is I think referring to the repeating pattern in the relationship of this turbulent cycle.

I'm fairly sure it should be 'she' calculates coincidence, and circumstance, and turbulence - and seems to be a bit of a personal critique - she seems to get into things and make an issue - and its everything and its endless!! Seems like he's a bit fed up to me. He softens it up a bit in the next verse with a generalization about how people have dreams that are unrealistic, but if you are going to wait for the impossible to happen you wouldn't get anywhere.

In the end he says she just explains to him that she cant explain what males her create these upsets, but that she does want to be with him. He cant break up with her and they just drift alone together in this doomed relationship until at least one of them becomes who the other dreams they would be.

The Wallflowers – Bleeders Lyrics 10 months ago
The guy reminds himself that maybe they used to call him a bleeder but that is past tense. He's lived with this kind of emotional turmoil in the past but he's gotten through it and in the song it seems he's had some kind of upset where he needs to remind himself of this and reaffirm his perspective. The idea that this can be dealt with and he knows he will get through this is repeated - this aint my first ride, it aint my last try - He reminds himself he will get through this and there will be more chances, and that he's 'Just got to keep movin' on'. In the lines 'I sent it off in a letter, I need somethin' better' and 'Got to keep this together, maybe next time is never' it eludes to the seriousness and depth of this emotional turmoil from what he's experienced in the past.

He depicts himself as a fugitive on the run, but I think this is metaphorical, He reveals he's always struggled emotionally 'swimming up this river with sentimental fever' and he feels that he's a failure in the estimation of society or some group of people in it, and was judged as a failure by others - 'they called me the bleeder'. The 'nail and a hammer' brings up the idea of being forced to be a certain way. He feels that he's a prisoner of the standards and expectations of society and how he is judged by this. He also "confesses" that he never really felt up to those standards, and how its difficult to try to be someone you're not.

In the song he is repeatedly reassuring himself in order to comfort himself that whatever this latest failure that he did the best he could. In the line 'I guess I should be ashamed but I forget to be vain' he is mocking society for its corrupted standards. Where he says 'only sad and lonely' is tong-in-cheek as he continues mocking society for its lack of compassion - 'no one is impressed'.
