The Psychedelic Furs – Sister Europe Lyrics | 10 months ago |
Butler was into cut up lyrics, impressionistic. The lyrics scan well, a rare thing. The gf jetting around sounds right. Maybe Google would resolve |
Swans – Love Will Save You Lyrics | 10 months ago |
The key line is "it [love] will never save me". So is the narrator coming from someone else's point of view, as a cynic? Or is he coming from his Michael Gira's perspective? If so, look to a line that sounds innocuous other than it's an odd image, "tie you to the bloody post". Sounds like he's talking about his addiction - nothing will save him from heroin, not even love... That line has an echo with the stunning image in the Stranglers' Golden Brown: Every time just like the last On her ship tied to the mast To distant lands Takes both my hands |

Siouxsie and the Banshees – Israel Lyrics | 1 year ago |
Hi, I'm poster LeFeuFollet - lost original sign-on. Was not refuting the references to Palestine, and Siousxie tends to favour the oppressed and does address political or cultural issues no question. Swimming Horses another obvious example of this, about honour killings. What I was saying in my original post was that in addition wearing a star of David is an obvious counterpoint to wearing a Swastika. As a postscript, the punk idea if wearing a swastika as an "up yours" to the previous generation was always thin in logic, and still repellent. Looking at Johnny Thunders in one was always depressing too, when he made such great music. The symbol will always represent death and destruction... |
Massive Attack – Black Milk Lyrics | 1 year ago |
First few lines of the poem Black milk of daybreak we drink it at evening we drink it at midday and morning we drink it at night we drink and we drink we shovel a grave in the air |
Massive Attack – Black Milk Lyrics | 1 year ago |
Suppose once something's in the public domain it can mean anything to the reader or listener, reflecting their experience and thought. But black milk no question is inspired by Paul Celan, whose parents died in the camps. As mentioned once or twice above, the poem is Death Fugue in the English translation. |
The Horrors – Scarlet Fields Lyrics | 1 year ago |
Was going to add - but hit send too fast - that another track on the Primary Colours LP makes the connection more explicitly, I Can't Control Myself. There's a couplet: I pray for scarlet fields to save me Whole and white and pure ...seems pretty clear. |
The Horrors – Scarlet Fields Lyrics | 1 year ago |
Comments above on passing of time and love are all good. They miss perhaps a crucial double meaning that's there in the title. Fields are scarlet or red as they are full of poppies. You get heroin from poppies... So like Golden Brown, this song works on more than one level. |
