Radiohead – Man of War Lyrics 1 year ago
I'm not too sure about this one, but I'm pretty sure it's about PTSD (post traumatic stress Disorder) and how it affects veterans when they're back from war.

The first verse goes "Drift all you like""From ocean to ocean""Search the whole world""But drunken confessions""And hijacked affairs""Will just make you more alone" This is explaining how veterans will attempt to escape their trauma even taking extreme measures, but will eventually come to no avail and feel more alone, hence the final verse.

The second verse is talking about how veterans feel arriving home to their families "when you come home" "I'll bake you a cake" "Made of all their eyes" the eyes are the veterans traumas reaching him, even in the safety of his family, and his family has no idea what hes been through. The end of the verse goes "I wish you could see me" "dressed for the kill" "you're my man of war" this is the soldier feeling like hes all alone, and how his family could never imagine him and the atrocities he saw during the war.

The final verse talks about how anything can trigger his PTSD hence the "so unplug your phone" "stop all the taps" these are all noises that could trigger his trauma and the "it all comes flooding back is how he feels remember everything he saw. "From poisoned cloud" "and poisoned dwarf" is how he sees himself I think, no longer himself trapped in a poisoned cloud of memories.

I also think the song name clicks well with this meaning, as well as "yeah the worms will come for you" which is a feeling lots of trauma victims get, the feeling that there are worms or insects in your skin.

Placebo – Special K Lyrics 1 year ago
My personally favorite placebo song

Special K is pretty straightforward, it talks about the abuse of the drug special k (ketamine), a highly abused substance, it talks about how you feel like you're escaping gravity, but it comes at a price "no escaping gravity" "not for free". Can this savior be for real or are you just my 7th seal" this verse talks about how the feeling can be heavenly, but the after affects terrible hence the 7th seal analogy. "I'll describe the way I feel" "You're my new Achilles heel" this analanalogy is my favorite, Achilles was a greek myth that was invincible bit had one weakness, his heel, he was shot exactly there with an arrow and died, this analogy is referring to how this drug is now his new weakness.

I think it's a straightforward and very well written song, very underappreciated.

Radiohead – Bodysnatchers Lyrics 1 year ago
Bodysnatchers is probably one of my favorite Radiohead songs. It talks about not fitting in with society and having to fake every action you do to make friends but realizing that its impossible to create a whole new personality

"I do not understand" "what it is I've done wrong"
I'm full of holes "check for pulse" is him realizing that he can't change and be like everyone else, feeling empty and almost desperate inside.
"I have no idea what I am talking" about is him expressing that everything he says and talks about is just fake and he doesn't find interest in it at all. "Im trapped in this body and I cant get out" is him anguished because now that he has created this personality he is stuck in it and cant leave. "You killed the sound" "removed backbone" "a pale imitation" "with the edges sawn off" is him describing himself, a blank imitation(pale imitation) with no personality (sound) trimmed to be like everyone (with the edges sawn off)
"I have no idea what you are talking about" is him no angry at the people he associates himself with, angry that he doesn't even know what they talk about. "Your mouth moves only with someones hand up your ass" is him now more angry, expressing how everyone is fake and materialistic and no one talks for themselves.
"Has the light gone out for you" "because the lights gone out for me" is him wondering if he is alone or if other people feel like him, "it was the 21" century I think is him expressing how the 21 century brought a new wave of materialism and ignorance that caused this person's dilemma.
"All the lines wrapped around my face" "are for everyone else to see" "I'm a lie" this speaks for itself, his face is covered in lies and hes not himself, basically the whole songs point. Finally "I've seen it coming" is how he knew that this would happen, but that he just pushed it away in fear.

One of the best songs ever written in my opinion, really speaks out against the 21 centuries materialism and how fake people tend to be.

Radiohead – Paranoid Android Lyrics 1 year ago
Radiohead's masterpiece "paranoid android" has a pretty dark meaning, although I love it and I believe it's very interesting.

The protagonist in the song is getting tormented by a bully he sees every day "please could you stop the noise I'm trying to get some rest" is him trying to get the bully to leave him alone."From all the unborn chiken voices in my head" is the bullies taunts in his head. He has finally had it though, he fantasizes about the bullies death and says to himself "when I am king you will be first against the wall, with your opinion which is of no consequence'' meaning that when hes dead his opinion will no longer matter. "Ambition makes you look pretty ugly" is him mocking the bullies stupidity, and "kick and squealing Gucci little piggy" is him fantasising the bully pleading for mercy. He then buys a gun and confronts the bully, he arrives and points the gun saying "why dont you remember my name" indicating the bully would call him names and slurs before. "I guess he does" is him laughing at how the bully finally calls him by his name now that the bullies life is in danger. The beat then drops in the song and I believe this is when he shoots the gun, "rain down" is simply just the rain falling on him as a dramatic effect as well as the "from a great height" part. The bullet then hits the bully and he says "that's it sir you're leaving" meaning he's leaving this planet, and "the cackle of pigskin" is the bullet rupturing the bullies skin tearing it and making a loud unpleasant noise. "The dust and the screaming" Is everyone's reaction to what just happened, and "the yappies networking" I think mean that everyone is trying to make sense of what just happened, and "the panic the vomit" is everyone realizing what happened "God loves his children" is just the mocking of religion.

A very well structured song and story, honestly the peak of music.

Radiohead – Electioneering Lyrics 1 year ago
This song is about the IMF and World bank affect on poor 3rd world countries. In the 1980s the IMF and World Bank loaned huge amounts of money to poor 3rd world country's. The key word is *loaned* because these loans looked extremely promising, but to recieve one you would have to almost completely change your countries government, and introduce things like capitalism and free market. This terribly affected lots of African countries making them poorer than they were and in huge debts because they had to pay back the very same loans that destroyed them.

The when I go "forward you go backwards" means that the rich capitalist countries go forward and the underdeveloped poor countries go backwards. "Riot shields, voodoo economics" means that the people revolt against an economy that isnt even controlled by them. "Its just business" expresses how the IMF doesnt care about the country, it just wants to make profit. "Cattle prods and the IMF" cattle prods are torture devices used by rich countries because they don't actually produce physical harm, and the IMF is well what I have been talking about.

A great song, very underappreciated.
