The funny thing about drug addiction is that it's just the most clear cut example of what each and every human being is struggling with their entire lives, until they've reached exalted levels in whichever spiritual tradition they follow. The lyrics clearly speak to anyone who has ever felt shame or regret about any addictive cycle, even reading romance novels beyond a natural balance.
Damn my eyes is key because it gets straight to the point of what divides us within ourselves, and it's the fact that no matter where we look in this world there are things outside of us that appeal to our programming and this struggle to handle our automatic responses is what people spend entire lifetimes seeking. Shouldn't say that out loud though cause man I'd hate to be blind! adios amigos. |

This could be dug into much deeper but I'll keep it simple in saying it's most definitely about someone becoming dissatisfied with the world and turning to Buddhism for answers and comfort.
He must reach a very advanced level of meditation, I wont go as far as to say enlightenment, but he is discovering that a way out of this perpetual life/misery cycle exists and he's found it, however there is tremendous fear he finds upon stepping outside his body.
He might realize at the end that the suffereing he thought was inflicted on him from the outside world was actually his own doing all along, and perhaps now he can enter back into his body having experienced a minor awakening to how he ought to navigate through the world and carry himself. |

Strikes me as a conversation had between different aspects of the individual. Seems like a plea from the right minded self for the self destructive side to chill the fuck out or he wont be able to hold on anymore, maybe die. He didn't need the drug it needed him. |
