Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics 24 days ago
@[ligeirinho:50730] what would you consider to be a better work of Dylan's than 'Like a Rolling Stone'? Many feel the way that you do (sometimes including myself), but I would be interested to see what is better either lyrically, musically, or both.

@[RVC:50618] you're so right about 'Inside the museums...' being such an outstanding line. It says so much; it certainly does to me. That one line has affected me for 40+ years at least!! I'm not saying that so many others stand out also, it's just that, for me,.

Bob Dylan – Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? Lyrics 2 months ago
@[elephant_range:50071] Bob used the line 'you gotta lot of nerve to say you are my friend' to open Positively 4th St as well to close out 'Crawl out Your Window'. Same line, two Entirely different meanings. No one else was considering doing things like that, let alone pulling it off. This guy, along with some critics of Bob's stuff, helped introduce me to things like surrealism and multiple meanings.

Dave Mason – Look at You Look at Me Lyrics 4 months ago
This is really wonderful. The lyrics touch in both a one-to-one and as a call to the world in general. And then, there comes that beautiful guitar solo at the end.

Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited Lyrics 4 months ago
This song is beautifully put together (no surprise, as it's Dylan). First verse is a take on the Bible verse in Genesis; he often used that book for reference material.
Verses 2 & 3 are referred to by other folks here as mentioning Blues & other Americana musicians. I hadn't thought of that and I see your point. Later on, Dylan wrote a song, titled 'Blind Willie McTell', so there's that connection.
Verse #4 is about a very busy family, I would say. Seriously, it seems to be Dylan having some fun with numbers. I'm probably missing something there.
The last verse might be referring to modern war and how the media covers it. That the 'leaders' of side A decide to attack side B to gain land and to attack the other's religious & social beliefs. Media treats war almost as a sporting match; meanwhile, thousands or more are dying on both sides.
This final verse might not be as serious as I'm seeing it. As it is with so much of Bob Dylan's work, 'who the hell knows?' Another brilliant puzzle for us to try to figure out.

Great lyrics, but I wish there was a 3rd verse. Probably would have made the record too long, especially for the early 60's. Guess I'm being selfish. Heh

The Cure – Lovesong Lyrics 1 year ago
Please recall that this song is part of an album where Smith & the Cure are dealing with depressive & upsetting material. It's early on the album so he's trying to reassure Mary that whatever he's going through, she is still his love and always will be.
The song stands up as a beauty on its own. Those who cover it, however, don't really understand the pain it comes from. They all just treat it as a beautiful love song. There is more to this.

@[SkaSong:42440] this is a great interpretation. You can go in so many directions with a Robert Smith/Cure song. It really is difficult to refer to them as a 'Pop band'.

This is such a delicate, painful work. I've read that this is about an actual breakup; if so, they seemed to have worked it out. Robert & Mary have been married over 30 years. Perhaps another song on this album helped out: Lovesong.
'If only I'd known of the right words, I could have held on to your heart'... just 2 of so many beautiful lines in this song. I've noticed that when he refers to her as an angel, he uses 'angels'. I think that's a wonderful touch. He has used that at least one other time: on the amazing "Just Like Heaven". He is truly an underrated lyricist..
