MMPunk42, you need to read up, because you are completely wrong when you said " i merely said it was impossible to be both anti-capitalist and anarchist." That is simply absurd. I have never met a (serious) anarchist who wasn't anti-capitalist. Pure communism, *is* essentially anarchy. It calls for the collapse of the state system and the common ownership of all property and the absence of hierarchy. It would be impossible to have anarchy with capitialism, because along with capitalism comes hierarchy since money and property are power. You were correct, by the way, about the socialist anarchy comment. By the way, black flags aren't facist symbols, they are anarchist symbols. Anarchy is a stupid concept though, it has no way of working, and would collapse almost immediately into despotism. That's why I am a Syndicalist. |

This song is obviously about our dependency of oil and automobiles. "Yes the car is our wheelchair" That one is pretty straightfoward. "We found your weakness/And its right outside your door " That one means the same thing. "With precision you feed me/My witness Im hungry " "With precision you feed me", in my opinion is talking about filling up at the gas station. The whole witness thing is a little hard to understand. The way I see it is he is using "Witness" in the way that religious groups use it. If you think about it our obsession with the automobile is almost a religon in itself. This also relates to "testify," a word religious groups use when they profess their beliefs. All of the references to war and "Bagdad Burning" are talking about American imperialism in the Middle East where we invade to secure our oil interests. "Mass graves for the pump and the price is set, and the price is set " That also relates to our Mid-East oil interests too. Mass Graves for the pump means that people are being killed so you can inexpensively fill up your gas tank. Excellent Song |

I agree with shinjiikari this is not so much an attack on capitalism in itself, it is more of an attack on what capitalism does to the arts. People used to be artists for the sake of the art. People used to write songs with meaning, now people write songs that sell ("I’ll wake up and write some songs with no soul") and create art that is only meant to make money ("There are no art forms now just capitalism ") The song make attacks that aren't art related, but I don't that that is the primary focus of the song. |

My concept of the song is a bit different. I don't think this song is negative toward the husband, but the wife. I think it is about how the wife keeps pushing the husband for material possesions and he wants to provide for her because he loves her. "I just think and think until my head hurts of the payment plans I’m making. I just wanted to provide for you." Also listen to the intro...it reinforces what I said. |
