@[sassback:39575] You rock so much. After reading the first couple sentences I was about to skip ahead as it sounded like a rehash of something I had read on a couple of other sites about the song (namely, that its about his brother, without much further explanation than that). I am so glad I finished though, as I now get so much more comprehensively what the song is about. Obviously I can't say for sure you are correct about what Rivers intended, but that the song is about Rivers point of view as a huge success getting off the phone with his brother who has fallen on hard times, and the complicated emotions that would surely come with it, rings very true. Although now that i am typing this, there is one element that might bring this into question -- I might be wrong, but wasn't this song off their very first album? In other words, at the time this song was being written, had Weezer been that far along their eventual journey of success and stardom at the time it was written? I don't know enough about the band -- its possible they had already signed prior to dropping their first full length album. That wasn't unheard of at all back in the 90's -- but bigger weezer fans than myself would be in a good position to confirm or disconfirm that detail. Regardless, thanks for the insight, I appreciate this song now even more than I had before. |
