Joe Jackson – Is She Really Going Out With Him? Lyrics 2 years ago
@[larsvsnapster:40721] except for the known fact that especially in the 80s, Gay/Bi men often sang songs about love for a woman/women; albiet whether because they were just brilliant songs, or keeping their sexual preferences secret or ambiguous. So many high profile examples include Elton John, Freddy M/Queen, Boy George, George Michael/Wham, Bowie, Little Richard, Manilow, are only a few of hundreds who acknowledge such. Hundreds of famous bands had Gay/Bi members, then we have famous women singing about men lovers, Dusty Springfield, Joan Jett (sapphic is her fave term) whilst others of both sexes say they just love Humans. So I don\'t think this song was anything other than a lad singing about other lads punching above, wondering why beautiful women were dating either dumb empty headed jock types or genuinely unattractive men; as in spite of his admitted self insecurity, believes he is still a wee bit of a better lad, whether via his looks, intellect or mannerisms. Even now we query why certain people, beautiful, famous, or rich, in our opinion have unusual taste in partners. Whether for superficial reasons, fame, money, prestige, or they genuinely DO prefer someone with brains, good humour, decent, warm hearted, honest partners, or the oldest reason on earth, chemistry, sex appeal, thus better than average in the sack;) I\'m lucky that my lad may appear average to most, but it was his intelligence, integrity, decency, romantic, humour and similar tastes in music, interests, etc. Had to kiss a LOT of frogs for almost 40 yrs, but he was bloody well worth the wait, lucky he wasn\'t snapped up sooner! Almost 20 yrs later, Today I love him more than I did yesterday, and not as much as I will love him tomorrow (old french poetic verse;) cheers!

Tom Petty – Mary Jane's Last Dance Lyrics 2 years ago
Dear @[mtmyke:39301] ...imo +1 should be +10 :) Sincerely, I do believe that from all of the many, MANY "song/lyric meaning" websites, that your interpretation is by far the closest to what the song/lyric were intended to mean, as indeed my own thoughts, like yours, are closest to what Mike Campbells remarks conveyed about the song. You have also applied to the same idea that many artists and scholars have held for centuries, myself included; ie my studies were predominately an eclectic blend of .."interpretations of lyrics, poetry, nursery rhymes, compositions, hidden meanings of pre-Tudor to late 19th century, historical, ethnic, world languages, etc."..as such, you've allowed that it is nothing new for artists to intentionally create a song built on metaphors and/or a double entendre in and of itself, I admire how you've picked up on that and shared it so beautifully! It's becoming more rare nowadays to read an interpretation that maintains an ability to separate each part, whilst it is accompanied with a succinct, convincing theory that concludes with a supporting "open to others to clarify" edit. That said, contrary to my long winded but rare comments, (permanent effect result of a brain injury) your contributions is so easy to read, all the whilst nodding ones head, thinking "yeah that makes perfect sense". Cheers and many thanks, your comment made my day much better for it, warmest regards, Ladybudd ;)
