Syd Barrett – Gigolo Aunt Lyrics 2 years ago
@[Black:39090]&GreenAchilles Dark Side was the culmination of everything that Syd had worked towards. To refer to it the way you did is to spit in Syds's face.

Syd Barrett – Gigolo Aunt Lyrics 2 years ago
Syd led the Floyd right up until Dark Side. An extremely gifted and intelligent individual who also was a quite affable and funny sort. Sadly his over indulgences into hallucinogens (I've taken my share of acid but Syd makes me look like like an amateur) took that amazing psyche of his down a very dark path from which he never returned. Nothing off of The Madcap Laughs or Barrett pretends to stand up to what he had been capable of before succumbing to whatever dark force pulled him under. Especially songs like Bike, See Emily Play or Arnold Lane. He was gone. He was now just a shell of the genius that had been the driving force behind Pink Floyd. If ever there was a play to be made about an artist who struggled to be heard at all costs delivering new and unheard of forms of lyrical/instrumental works of art then right before going mad bestowed upon his band mates crowns of poetic/esoteric license to be carried out despite his demise into madness it would be about Syd. A beautiful and tragic explosion of genius that holds up artistically to the likes of Beethoven and Van Gogh. As far as the meaning of Gigolo Aunt? If we could all pool our thoughts here and somehow offer them up to Syd for comment I believe he'd just look at them, smile, look at us, and shake his head.

Devo – Mongoloid Lyrics 3 years ago
If you watch the official video of Devo's song it's pretty clear (IMHO) what they're getting at. They are simply taking John Landon Down's scientifically racist term and applying it to the average middle class American of the 1950s-60s which was happy family, dad at work, mom in the kitchen, kids at school or play, that sort of thing. The implication sticks with Devo's written in stone theme of the devolution of mankind implying that if it was that bad in the 50s and we only realize it by hindsight just where the hell are we now ?
Later, Down doubted his work. He abandoned his belief in phrenology after 10 years of study and turned his back on the view that a person’s character and intelligence could be deduced from the outer appearance and shape of his or her head but the term stuck. I think it's fitting that no one familiar with the term may think it applied to the first victim which would be good old Johnny Langdon himself. ;-)

Blind Faith – Can't Find My Way Home Lyrics 3 years ago
I'm a recovering heroin addict. I'm 4 years clean and sober now. I'm 70 now. I saw them at The Spectrum in Philadelphia 1969. Although Clapton is credited for the lyrics don't be too sure. He's credited for stuff in Cream that Jack Bruce is adamant about having written. It's like Lennon/McCartney. Eric was very headstrong back then and wanted credit for almost everything. I say that because this song is either Eric singing about himself or a plea to Eric from Syevie Windwood
